So thats really something for yall to be proud of Silsbee.
Silsbee - 822 Buna - 473 How can you compete with a school that has 349 more kids than you do?
For the last few years Buna has been one of the largest 2A Schools in the State, now that the jump to 3A has come the Cougars are gonna struggle with being the smaller school and will have to figure out how to compete with the bigger schools. You can talk about the number difference but only 11 play at a time. Use your strengths and out work/hustle the other teams, try and keep it close as long as you can and put pressure on the other team. Use the "under dog" role to your advantage. Being from Deweyville we have always been one of the smallest school's so we know how the Cougars feel. Stay positive and keep working hard.
Awesome post man.
It's not all coaching but they don't set the right attitude for the boys. One young coach gets fired up the others are either old or just young and don't know anything. Practices are a joke. Buna needs a new motivated attitude.
Don't know the situation but I would guess that the kids don't have the right attitude either. It goes both ways and the parents are to blame in my opinion. They think their kids are better than they are. Seen it many times, sorry. -

The problem is coaching used to be a passion, now it is a business where you get a pay check. Corporate America is all I can say. Sad but true. ;D ;D ;D -
Coaching is only part of the issue in Buna. The other half is kids not sucking it up and busting their butts during workouts. Buna has no summer program except for the one the kids have to pay to go to put on by someone who owns a gym. No coaches at the school all summer except the AD doing maint. And taking care of business.
There you go, you are correct. The blame should not be all on the coaches. -

But this thread is almost as useless as the Newton v/s Warren thread from last week, do the Silsbee faithful really need to talk trash? Probably not. Silsbee is twice the enrollment of Buna, you should and more than likely will give us a sound beating, so, it's expected.
I actually think it will not be a beat down. Yes, I do think Silsbee will win but I do think that Buna will give Silsbee fits. If you look at the stats of the Orangefield game the stats did not show a 48-7 win for Silsbee. Orangefield had a good rushing night against the tigers. Now that being said did not watch the game and most of that could have come in the second half when Silsbee had a big lead. Buna has always been crappy just like Orangefield.
Half time stats: Silsbee 245 yards 34 points Orangefield 68 yards 0 points Orangefield did not pass 100 yards of total offense till the 4th quarter and did not score till late 4th against Silsbee's 2nd team defense. Also Silsbee's 2nd team offense ended up with -30 yards of offense because of bad snaps. Tigers 1st team offense had over 300 yards of offense thru 3 quarters. Orangefield did lead in time of possession 32 minutes to 16. They tried to play keep away as best as possible. So the score did indicate how one sided the game was.
How did I know you would post Aggie, thanks for the clarification. ;)

Lots of coaches from the stands. To be honest, the offense Buna runs gives them the best chance to win just like Orangefield. Simply because they do not have the numbers or the skill people to pass more than run. JMO of course!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I think both schools should pass more. They both need balance but the wing-T is a very deceptive offense. But again the problem is fundamentals is not being taught anymore in high school sports at all levels. ;)
I kind of agree..very little fundamental coaching occurs in High school ranks, hardly any in Junior high levels. It seems you just throw a kid out there and tell him what to do but explaining why or how to do it kinda gets lost sometimes. Now a days your expected to have been taught in peewee leagues it seems. The better programs are the ones WHO DO teach the fundamentals.
You are correct, good post. the problem is it is not being taught in the youth leagues either. They are concerned about running plays and making their kid look good. I watched a youth game the other day and just about every play was based around one kid. There are 11 on the field the last time I counted on offense. Times have changed!!!!! -
Is WOS the best team in SETX?
I would bet money Dayton nor summer creek would score 4td's on this defense! If they played and you guys were willing to bet id let you name your price. Its easy for people to talk when they don't have to face these guys WOS is the best! And I'm willing to bet money they go further in the playoffs then both Dayton and Summer Creek. Any takers?
I have to agree neither Summer Creek or Dayton would put up 4 touchdowns on WOS. Dayton is not as good as years past. WOS will go far in the playoffs, farther then both of those schools. You guys should not bet. As far as WOS being the best, dont think so but they are good no doubt. -

It would be nice if we was back in the old district, OF, HJ, HF, Buna, Kountze, EC and AP. It will be hard for the smaller schools to compete year end and year out with the likes of WOS, Silsbee and BC. Not crying about it just calling a spade a spade. -
Tackling should be taught in practice and obviously hasn't been. Adjustments should be made at halftime and Bridge City was the only team that made adjustments.
Not from Buna and did not watch the game. I agree with tackling issue, fundamentals seem to be a lost art at many schools not just buna. On the flipside for buna, I would think it would be hard to make adjustments when you are up 24-0 at the half. What Buna did in the first half seemed to be working. -
21-3A has been down the past 2 years. I used to go watch a lot of local 3A volleyball but it has not been very good as of late. That's why I have been watching 4A the last two years. Tarkington and Orangefield are the only 3A teams I have seen this year that are any good. Sorry.
I have to agree with you. ;)

But I can promise you this, teams around the state of Texas know who WOS and Newton are. Regardless if they make it to that title game are not. Even "NOW" as you say they know and they also know they will have a battle on their hands. I agree WOS has not made the noise in 3A like everyone thought but that being said anything can happen on any given friday night. Did not read the whole thread got in on the end but just an observation that If kids do quit the mustang program and I am sure they do, it is because they could not handle the hard work or discipline that is required to succeed. I say let them quit and if you only have 11 left then that 11 will fight till the end. It is all about being hungry and motivated. Some kids have it, some don't. Plain and simple.
Overall, I agree that football in the triangle is down the past few years. I disagree that no one has a chance to win the championship. WOS was two games away from playing in the state champ and PAM was one. Though Newton is not in the triangle per say they have a chance and don't forget Community Christian in Orange has a chance. Yes, kids quit our program because of the toughness or playing time, I know some. Every program has that. Not sure about LC-M being on the upswing..we do get transfers from LC-M. PAM should be proud of their recent record and I hope that 20 years from now they will have had the same success we have had.
Good post man, not saying they can't just that it is not realistic to think it will happen every year, 5 or ten years.
that's the problem...wos was good. now just...avg. don't come on here acting like wos actually cut people smh..they have so few little players because of lack of economic growth. that walmart aint packing them in anymore!! wos have no choice but to play a few kids!! no one said PAM are world beaters, but some wos are acting like they are. let me tell ya something else, besides coles short lived nfl career and one other wr, and earl thomas, who else??? PAM/port arthur has placed more players in the nfl and major d1 schools than ANY town/city in the triangle, since you want to go there. wos is a shell of the old days. hooks was wos. now they can only hoist district championships over the likes of orange field, bridge city,etc...wooww tough district ::)
I am not from WOS but year in and year out dating back to when WOS was formed there is no other school in this area that has had the success WOS has. Not many lean years for them. The only other school would be Newton. Would PAM beat both of these schools, probably so but it would be a battle. But if you look at long term programs, there is no comparison. PAM is not in the same league, WOS and Newton basically has had the same coaching staff for 25+ years. Plus I promise you this when ever you can coach the same style for that many years there is an advantage. The main advantage is the parents and kids buy into the system. Cornel left WOS, guess what it was not long and he was back. Why because I have seen WOS in pads on a thursday. How many schools are in pads on thursday in this day and time? My guess is WOS and maybe Newton and their record speaks for itself.
