  9. Not exactly. If residency is never established, the DEC can still rule ineligible. Those are some of the new policies.
  10. I agree with that last statement. But NS and SOC are not the same. TEA ratings prove it.
  11. According to UIL, they will monitor middle school as well. Residency must be established at sometime. Doesn't matter if it's open enrollment.
  12. Talking about TEA accountability ratings. SOC is one of the worst schools in the entire state when it comes to those ratings. North Shore is much better than SOC.
  13. Under UIL policy, in order to participate in UIL activities, one has to establish residency within the school district one is attending or one will be ineligible for a calendar year. Also, the DEC can rule ineligible if moved for athletic purposes. This is regardless of open or closed enrollment schools. Some are talking about moving for better opportunities. It's hard to validate that move when one moves from a school that has an A rating from TEA to a school with a D or F rating. Unless the parents moved for work or it was a negative family situation, those kind of moves are obviously for athletic purposes and the student should be rules ineligible. These new policies and regulations that UIL has just come out with will crack down on some of this mass transfer situation. (i.e. Duncanville girls basketball). It won't stop it completely, but having 10-15 transfers per year will cause major red flags to the UIL and they will step in DEC meetings. Pretty sure starting next year the "brother in law" DEC meetings will cease because a UIL official will be in those meetings per the new regs.

  15. Silsbee definitely exceeded my expectations. After losing a great senior class (26 to be exact) Tigers still managed the 3rd round of the playoffs, going 9-4 on the season. I think this was one of HC Randy Smith's best coaching years. Some of these senior starters have made at least the 3rd round all three of their varsity years. Kudos to this coaching staff and team for a job well done.
  16. Correct. When I stated they had to establish residency, it was in order to immediately (after 15 days) be eligible to play varsity sports. But, if ruled by DEC that the transfer was for athletic purpose, then the student will be ineligible.
  17. UIL came out about a month ago with new policies and regulations to crack down on these transfers. It should be on their website. I think it goes into effect in January or it may be August of 2025 for new school year.
  18. I'm not saying there's not any "under the table" deals going on and some "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" when it comes to the DEC rulings. I am just stating the fact of how open enrollment schools work when it comes to UIL participation. Some are saying that all that's necessary is for a student to enroll in an open enrollment school. That is not accurate. They still have to be declared eligible by the DEC under UIL policies. I know some of the DEC's in the Dallas Metroplex have been very laxed when it comes to these decisions. Nobody wants to rule a kid ineligible because they don't want one of theirs to be ruled ineligible. The "scratch my back" gig. But UIL just came out with new policies that will help curb some of this "outlaw" transfer activities. It will not solve it completely but should help bring it down some.
  19. Contrary to what is being posted on here about "open" enrollment schools, those schools still have to abide by UIL policies when it comes to participation in UIL athletics. A student still has to establish residency in that school district and the PAPF from the school he/she transferred from has to be clean (i.e. box checked for not transferring for athletic purposes). Open enrollment allows students to transfer in to attend, but it doesn't allow for students to transfer in for athletics. That's governed by the UIL. The DEC still has to approve those transfers to play varsity athletics.
  20. DEC (District Executive Committee) rules on eligibility. PAPF from the school being transferred from helps determine also.
  21. Transferring for athletic purposes is not allowed. Have to sit a year if ruled ineligible by DEC.
  22. Leaning towards going to PAM/BH game. Give me a reason to go eat at Cactus Jack's. Friday I'll be going to Vidor at BC.
