  1. If I read your thread right, you were talking about Nederland and PNG dropping basketball, not football. Make up your mind. If it's football, go to the football forum. Just to follow up on your Silsbee football comment, the Tigers will make the playoffs next year. They have quite a team returning, 11 all district players and 16 starters.
  2. Silsbee boys and girls basketball teams made it to the regional tournament last year with the boys losing in the finals by 2 to Diboll and the girls losing to Navasota by 1. I would say that's a little past the first round.
  3. I would say that Nederland and PNG have considered dropping basketball as much as Ozen has considered dropping baseball and golf.
  4. Shepherd should benefit more from that district alignment, especially on the travel part. Good luck the next 2 years.
  5. Well, I may not have been in Shepherd( thank God ) but I have seen both Jasper and Shepherd play against my Tigers and I would have bet the house on Jasper winning. Losing the player you mentioned does hurt, no doubt, but even with him I say Jasper still pulls it out, but we'll never know. In regards to Silsbee-Shepherd games this year, it definetly would not have changed the outcome, especially losing by 50 to the Tigers last time. BTW, who are the schools in yall's new district next year?
  6. Actually, I don't think there was ever any question of Jasper beating Shepherd, the pirates are just not very good.
  7. Looking at the playoff brackets, the only way Silsbee will play Barbers Hill will be in the regional finals. Silsbee will be there, but not Barbers Hill.
  8. Consider Silsbee district champs. The Tiger reserves can handle Kirbyville.
  9. Actually, Coldspring beating Jasper is not a complete suprise to me. Coldspring is a pretty decent team and Jasper seems to be just a one man team( Adams).
  10. I'd put Silsbee's facilities among the best in this area, paticularly the football stadium, it's quite unique. Word is, some prominent local business men are negotiating to buy field turf, like the one in Moorhead Stadium in Conroe, to put down in Tiger Stadium. Stay tuned.
  11. Uh, hook'em, for your information, Jasper has lost at home already this season. But if you are talking about just the remainder of the season, Silsbee will not fear Jasper in their gym. It did not make a difference last year, nor will it this year. Fact is, Silsbee has never feared Jasper in basketball, the Tigers have owned them in that sport.
  12. Silsbee's starting five is '5"10, '6"2, '6"3, '6"5, '6"9. They have a couple of players that come off the bench that are '6"3 and '6"4 and the rest are in the '6"0 range. The Tigers go about 10-11 deep. They have the ability to run and gun or play big in the half court game. But their strength is their defence. As for a prediction, Silsbee wins this game 69-55.
  13. In the 1 1/2 years that Silsbee has been in 3A, they have won 7 district titles and have sent a team to the playoffs in every sport besides boys golf and girls softball ( I think golf is still the only sport that takes just 2 teams, not sure on this though ). With both boys and girls baskeball teams expected to win district, plus a good baseball nucleus returning along with both golf teams and tennis teams returning intact, look for the Tigers to grab at least another 3 more district titles this year thus giving them 10 in 2 years. Not bad for starters.
  14. The Tiger basketball programs are looking like it's old self again, maintaining a top 10 ranking. The boys are currently ranked #2 and the girls are #3. Silsbee's basketball programs in years past have traditionally been ranked in the top 10 on a very consistant basis. With the drop to 3A, this should enable the Tigers to start building that tradition back where it needs to be. Look for both boys and girls teams to go undefeated in district play and make a definite run to Austin this year.
  15. At this point in the season, Jasper has no business being in the top 20 with a 7-11 record with only 1 or 2 quality wins under their belt. Maybe at the end of the regular season with a good showing in district play, would Jasper be deserving of a top 20 ranking.
  16. That's correct. Lufkin had some conflicting situations in that tournament and had 4 of their starters plus 4 of their reserves on their varsity play for their JV in that game against Silsbee. I know this because I have a nephew who plays for Lufkin. But a loss is still a loss. Silsbee will handle Shepherd with ease and will go undefeated in district.
  17. Orangefield is ranked #4 and Silsbee is ranked #5 in this weeks state polls. WOS is ranked #19 I believe. These teams should represent the area real well.
