  1. Congratulations to all 4 young men. The 3 RB's will probably be fighting for League rushing champ this season. I count 5 young men. Just an observation. ;D hahah my bad I missed Mr. James from Silsbee. My Apologies. Congrats to all 5 young men :-D Correction: Mr. James only plays defense, and AggiesAreWe was referring to Chris Castle of Silsbee for league rushing title. No, Coach Comeaux was refering to the 3 rb's that are mentioned here for our Setxsports.com Player of the Week which is Grogan, Hanna, and Thomas. I was refering to the 5 players that made the list for player of the week, 3 offensive and 2 defensive players which he thought was just 4. I corrected him on that. Nobody said that Josh played offense and I wasn't speaking of Chris.
  2. I'm just speaking the truth, are I not? That not allowed on this board? Sure, I can be opinionated and I will be, but the fact lies in the release if you read between the lines...figure an Aggie can do that. I did not post this story to imply that Lamar had that many students on campus. I saw where the 3,200 made most of the difference, but it still doesn't deny the fact that this is Lamar's largest enrollment ever. There was no hidden agenda with this post, only giving out some info, which is truthful. Nowhere in that article did it state or imply that Lamar had that many students on campus. On the other hand, you seem to always want to point out any misgivings on Lamar's part. You say you only speak the truth yet it's always the case of you making sure that Lamar stays this notch below your precious Sam. It seems that you think this site needs you to do this particular job, by doing your best to keep Lamar down. It's getting quite old. I don't think I have ever read any post by you that supported anything positive towards Lamar. You seem to always redirect to a comparison to Sam when the thread may not have anything to do with SHSU. I don't have a problem with you posting the "truth". What I do have a problem with is you trying to spin anything positive about Lamar into a negative.
  3. Always looking to burst the Lamar bubble, aren't we TT? Talk about being a troll. :
  4. Despite Ike, LU Sets Enrollment Record Comments 0 | Recommend 0 October 8, 2008 - 4:27PM posted by: Scott Lawrence News Release from Lamar University: Lamar University's fall 2008 headcount is 13,469 students, up 31.9 percent from fall 2007, when the university's headcount was just slightly below the pre-Hurricane Rita levels set in the fall of 2005. "This headcount enrollment is the largest in Lamar's 85-year history and our semester credit hours are the largest since the fall of 1989," said Kevin Smith, senior associate provost. The official count, taken Wednesday, on the 20th day of classes, is all the more remarkable given the disruption to the region caused by Hurricane Ike that struck the region on Sept. 13. The university was closed for 10 days during which power was restored and repairs were made to many campus buildings. Classes resumed Sept. 25. Approximately 300 students did not return to classes after Hurricane Ike devastated the region, Smith said. University officials have worked with students to enable as many as possible to resume classes this fall. Lamar's total semester credit hours are 130,137, an increase of 14.1 percent from the previous fall. Most of the increase is due to enrollment in the LU master's degree program offered in partnership with Higher Education Holdings of Dallas, Smith said. The university's innovative partnership with HEH has made the university the largest educator of teachers in Texas, Smith said. More than 3,200 certified teachers from more than 200 school districts across the state are enrolled in the program that began one year ago. Together, Lamar and HEH are offering LU's master's degree in educational leadership with the same high quality of instruction at less than half the cost of traditional programs. "Increases were also observed in the colleges of engineering, up 10.2 percent, and fine arts and communication, which is up 4.7 percent," Smith said. "We are very pleased. These increases are the result of a lot of hard work by faculty and staff," Smith said.
  5. This wreaks of sour grapes. Just because some of you stayed, doesn't mean that others should. Everyone has to do what they think is best for them. Matt obviously thought moving was the best. Actually, I am suprised that more hasn't moved. It's not to say that those folks would not eventually come back, but for now, to just do what they can and that may mean living somewhere else.

  8. I can pick up Sportstalk 610 AM here in Silsbee, that's the station I listen too.
  9. Don't I know it. I called it a gloryfied deer stand. Actually, I've been in better deer stands. ;D Just joking Newton fans.
  10. That is a broadcaster inside joke. If you only knew what us broadcasters sometimes have to go through to broadcast these high school games from some of the local pressboxes. ;D

  14. The Deweyville-Kountze game will be at Tiger Stadium in Silsbee. Kountze's homecoming.
  15. I am willing to bet that this is probably one of if not the biggest stadium these two teams have played in in quite some time, if not ever. Tiger Stadium with a capacity of 10,000, do you think it will be full for the Lions homecoming? ;D
  16. See what I mean... Big and powerful almighty DFW has 5 million ppl so they deserved by default the biggest and best. What about La-monroe with a student population of 7,000 in a metro population of 172,000, or La-tech or CUSA Southern Miss. Yet this area thinking is to think small, lower expectation, status quo rules while new and innovative stay away, country bumpkiness rules.. Cardinal stadium was 17,000 in the 80's, I dont remember 18,000 fans. Oh wait, a little paint here and a turf field and maybe suites for the rich will bring in those 18,000 while we play Nicholls st.... Your comparisons are very lame. Those are all very well established football programs that have been playing the last 20 years where Lamar has not. You can't really be serious about Lamar being FBS with a new 40,000 seat stadium in what is really considered being a "first year" program after being dead the last 20 years. C'mon UNLV, your comments are very unrealistic and borderline just plain stupid. Yeah, yeah, I know, "stupid is, stupid does" : We are just the meek and weak mental midgets in these parts. : Hey UNLV, "SHOW ME THE MONEY" please!!!! No, your thinking is very limited. There are those who go out and seek greatness. These people know the sky is the limit. These people always shoot to be the best, the first, the most innovative, the people who lead humanity out of caves and into the modern world. Then there are the nay sayers, the can't be doners, the limit builders, the critics of the geat minds, the ones who opposed leaving the caves. Curious, do you think a hog calling contest should be part of LU's halftime show? For the 1,000th time I ask you, please tell me where Lamar is going to get the money to do these big and bold things that you say has to be done for the Lamar football program to be successful? PLEASE LET US ALL KNOW WHERE THAT BIG MONEY IS SO WE CAN LET THE LAMAR OFFICIALS KNOW WHERE TO GET THEIR HANDS ON IT!!!! :
  17. Actually, I think Huffman will finish 3rd, but they will be the Div. 1 rep and face Silsbee. Here are my predictions: Div. 1 Silsbee vs. Huffman winner: Silsbee Div. 2 WOS vs. Coldspring winner: WOS Hamshire-Fannett vs. Cleveland winner: Cleveland I agree with that. Two great minds, huh Gas! ;D
  18. Not that it really matters(except for me ;D) but the series is 13-2 with the last Silsbee win in 1998, first round of the playoffs. This is the only time Silsbee and WOS has met in the playoffs, so Silsbee is undefeated against the Stangs in the playoffs. ;D

  21. Please explain to me what you mean by Vidor "plays all their games at home" this year. Vidor Pirates Aug. 29 Beaumont Kelly Sept. 5 Houston St. Thomas Sept. 12 @ Hardin-Jefferson Sept. 19 OPEN Sept. 26 @ Beaumont Central* Oct. 3 Lumberton* Oct. 10 @ Beaumont Ozen* (Babe Zaharias Stadium) Oct. 17 Port Neches-Groves* Oct. 24 @ Little Cypress-Mauriceville* Oct. 31 Nederland* Nov. 7 @ Livingston* Maybe you meant that the tougher games are home games. BTW, they did lose one of those home games.
  22. Wrong. The only time Jasper applied pressure to Johnson was when the bad snaps happened. These were the only times he was "sacked" or dropped for a loss. Jeremy had plenty of time to throw the ball when he got good snaps. I agree that the Jasper secondary played well in coverage, but Jasper only was able to get to Johnson a couple of times. What Jasper's defense did do though was not allow Johnson to break a long run. They kept him contained in that aspect. Like I mentioned before, the 70 or 80 yards of losses from the bad snaps kept Jeremy's rushing stats so low, not the Jasper pressure.
  23. And yet UNLV can't seem to understand this. He wants to put it off on this "Southeast Texas mentality" thing. He can't seem to understand that "Joe College" has $5 in his pocket to spend and not $100. Some how he thinks that $5 will buy he and his date a steak dinner.
  24. ???Didn't Vidor play Tuesday evening as well? : I am glad you mentioned that. Yes Vidor did play Tuesday night, all the way to the last seconds of the game. Vidor has players that go both ways also. Lumberton did have the luxury of sitting their starters in the 4th quarter of their game, Vidor didn't as they took a very good Central team to the wire. So, using the "tired" card really doesn't float.
  25. Actually, this is something that Coach Mathews and Vidor does. They did it with Central last Tuesday night and invited Lumberton to join them in prayer Saturday night. Coach Mathews is a strong Christian man and it's a testament to his beliefs. You'll see Vidor continue doing this all season. I think it's great.
