That's got me wondering, what high school did you play for and what years? Was it Yates? ....No way!! Those used to be be fighting words, man!! ;D..I played at Madison, and Yates was our crosstown rival!! I played from 88-92. Oh, okay. Home of the 1984 class 5A state basketball champions, Sean Gay and co. Man that was a great team. Sorry about the Yates thing. ;D -

You can't be serious?? First of all, none of the players mentioned are nowhere close to the ones you have in this post. Secondly, none of your guards are '6"6 and could actually play inside if needed. That is nowhere near a fair comparison. But to answer your question, I'll take Russell and all his championships. ;D

Tonight's the night!! Who will be going and who will be listening? Hopefully, many. -
I may have misspoke. Are you asking to take one of the threesomes over the other or one individual player over the other 5?
-
This is easy, I'll take Bosh. This guy has proven he can play inside and outside. Runs the floor better than any big man that I have seen come through high school. He was just shy of being another Kevin Garnett in high school. BTW, classification doesn't matter in this regard.

I am not sure where he went to college. He was one heck of a player though. -

Say Dicky, that player you are thinking about is Robert Tovar. He started for them all four years in high school, winning the state title his soph and junior years, lost in semis is freshman year and lost in the finals his senior year. He made all tourney all 4 years. -

I'll put my 2 cents in here( which maybe only a cent and a half) I agree with most of what each of you have posted. I believe exceptional guard play is the key to great success in high school basketball, but with a disclaimer. I think it is more prevelant in the 5A-4A level. Usually those classifications all yield their share of big men, so usually they cancel each other, unless you get the great ones, which they don't come around as often. Now in the lower classifications, 3A-1A, a big man is a great advantage. Most schools in those classifications can only put a '6"2-'6"3 player down low, but if you have a big man in the '6"7-'6"10 range, that can fill it up and grabs every rebound, you are probably going to win more than your share of games. I've been going to the state tournament since '72, haven't missed a year since. I have seen my fair share of great teams at all classifications. What I have seen is the 5A-4A teams that win state usually do it with guard play, but the lower classifications usually have that big man that nobody has to match up with, and use it to their advantage. Yes, there are exceptions, but usually the state champion in those lower classifications had that big guy that dominated inside. He might have been only '6"4, but he was the key. Just my humble opinion, now back to the debate. -
I'll be in Nederland Friday night at the Dog Dome bringing you live broadcast of the Setxsports.com Game of the week. Big 22-4A matchup between the Bmt. Ozen Panthers and the Nederland Bulldogs. Ozen is undefeated in district and looks to keep that way as the Bullodogs try to keep pace with Vidor in that battle for that coveted third playoff spot. Come on out and watch this exciting battle or catch the broadcast here, LIVE, Friday night. Just another great GOW from Setxsports.com!!

No, he doesn't have the most wins of any high school basketball coach in Texas, active or retired. -

Why you ask? Because sometimes we say things that people will always hold us to the fire on, be it right or wrong. Just ask Don Imus(the nappy quote), Rafael Palmero(I didn't use steriods), George H. Bush( no new taxes), and many, many others, including yours truely. -
A bit of an interesting night for 3 of the 4 top teams in the district. Other than Silsbee, it was some close calls with the others. The Orangefield and Jasper wins were closer than most expected but the 4 point win that HJ squeaked out over WOS is a total shocker, even without Burrell. The low scoring in that game is quite a suprise. Obviously Trey means a whole lot more to the team than some thought. It's going to be interesting down the stretch to say the least.

Another great Setxsports.com game of the week. First let me say thanks to VISD for allowing me the opportunity to broadcast this game. Many thanks! Now for the game. I was very impressed with Vidor, very fundamentaly sound and great tenacity. The Pirates only suit up 7 players which is quite impressive for a class 4A team. Coach Robertson definetly gets the most out of his team. Jared Williamson, you young man are a player. Great game you played tonight. You put your team on your back at times and carried them to victory, congrats. Congrats to the Vidor Pirates!! A well deserved win.

Easy to say with HJ's 2nd best player and best defender on the sideline for 3-5 more weeks with a broken jaw. : I like easy.

That's fine, be proud. But in your original post you weren't talking how proud you were of Perk, you were praising the " coaching " he got in high school. Like I said, keep tooting that horn, that's what you do best. -

Good post Lazeek, my sentiments exactly. Dick has always wanted to toot his own horn ( and Boutte's too, I won't go there ) every chance he can. When you are as big and strong with some good athletic abilty as Perk had in high school, it doesn't take much coaching for him to dominate at that level. Night in and night out he faced '6"2 to '6"5 players that a player with his size could handle with ease. When he finally played players close to his size( Dallas Lincoln, Ft. Worth Dunbar) he did not dominate. Where was the coaching then? I am happy for Perk, he really has busted his tail the last couple of years and it seems to be paying off. Of course it doesn't hurt to have Pierce, Allen, and Garnett on your team. -
Time for a BOLD statement from yours truely. Forget about Silsbee battling for the 2nd spot, the Tigers win out and tie HJ for first. You heard it here folks. now let me go run and hide ;D

I'll be in Pirate Country Tuesday night bringing you the very important 22-4A game pitting the Dayton Broncos and the Vidor Pirates for one of this week's Setxsports.com Games of the Week. These two teams are battling it out for that coveted final playoff spot along with Nederland and LCM. Every game for these four teams is of great importance from here on out starting with this game. This should be a doozy. C'mon out to Vidor and watch another great Setxsports.com Game of the Week. Come by the broadcast table and give me a hollar. If you cannot, then listen to it here live. Looking forward to another great broadcast.
