  1. Like I said in another post, HJ is the better team over Chapel Hill. Their #1 ranking IMO is not all that special. I even believe Silsbee, who is unranked( but should be) is just as good if not better than Chapel Hill. The Hawks are the defending State champs, that alone is enough to make them the team to beat. But, HJ is also very good, they are playing even more as a team than last year. Not having Donahoe could be a blessing, but I am inclined to think that anytime you don't have a player of that caliber any longer, you will miss him at sometime. We'll see who steps up down the stretch in clutch time like Ryan did so many times. Good luck Hawks.
  2. Great win for the Hawks. I had watched some of the earlier games and I felt all along that HJ was the better team over Chapel Hill. That #1 ranking means nothing. Congrats HJ, keep the streak alive! ( at least until you face my Tigers )
  3. First of all, how do you know I wasn't there? Secondly, look at the free throw attempts, 29 for Orangefield, 7 for Silsbee, if that's not one sided, what is? A team that goes to the line 4 times more than the other, that team is getting the calls, plain and simple.
  4. Obviously Orangefield dictated the pace and style of this game( or at least they had help in doing it, is what I have been told about the place) A win is a win. I look for Silsbee to sweep Orangefield a little easier come district time.
  5. This is such a ridiculous statement. Of course Silsbee is in the same league as HJ. Even with their state championship team last year, Silsbee was right there with HJ, took OT in the third game to decide it. This year is the same. If you look at some common opponents( I really don't care for that myself ) both Silsbee and HJ had easy wins over East Chambers and a 7 point win for HJ over LCM and a 10 point win for Silsbee over LCM. Right now, I believe these teams to be playing pretty evenly, but we will see come district time.
  6. Just what do you mean by that comment? I thought the score was pretty indicative of how it was played. A one touchdown victory is about how this should be considering Waller outgained Dayton 344-248 and had more first downs, 19-13. I believe the better team won, Dayton made the crucial plays when they needed them. There was no domination here, if that's what you are implying.
  7. Waller had their share of turnovers too. An interception that was returned all the way to the 7 and then the one at the end of the game when Waller was threatening to tie. It went both ways. I had predicted a Dayton win, but not a blowout. The game turned out about how I expected it to. Dayton is playing great football and has a ton of momentum riding with them. I think they will win it all, but I said that about 8 weeks ago. Congrats Broncos!!!! Make a prophet out of me.
  8. Dayton leads 14-0 just into the 2nd quarter. Waller was driving by running the ball but decided to pass and got intercepted. Waller may be forced to pass more now, which will play into Dayton's hands. Let's see if Waller doesn't panick and stick to their powerful run game.
  9. End of first quarter. dayton leads 6-0 but they are on the Waller 7 yardline.
  10. Touchdown Dayton. Missed extra point. 6-0 Dayton 5:44 in the first quarter.
  11. I watched this 3A #1 ranked Chapel Hill team play East Chambers yesterday and I agree, they are good. But I also watched Silsbee play EC and watched them destroy the Bucs and the Tigers aren't even ranked. Chapel Hill may deserve their ranking ( will see if so in a couple of games ) but HJ and Silsbee are just as good if not better than that bunch. Just shows you what these early rankings really mean, absolutely nothing. On another note, seeing EC beat WOS doesn't bode well for the Mustangs. East Chambers is not that good of a team, Thomas is all they have right now.
  12. From what I saw out of East Chambers last night against Silsbee, if EC does win their district, then that district isn't too strong. I think Kountze will win that district.
  13. If you use that way of thinking, what about the comparison of Nederland, Lumberton and Waller? Nederland beat Waller 21-14, Lumberton beat Nederland 33-7, but Waller beat Lumberton 42-14. If you were going by comparison, Lumberton should have beaten Waller. But, I broadcasted the Waller-Lumberton game, trust me, the better team won. If Waller and Lumberton were to play 10 times, Waller wins 7 of them. It's all about matchups. Doing the comparison thing just doesn't cut it. I seen too many football games in my life to know this. Some teams just matchup better with certain teams and not so with others. Dayton is playing GREAT football right now and I am predicting them to win, but to say they are going to win or they are a better team just by game comparison is not accurate.
  14. Silsbee was just too much. Tigers had more depth, more height, and better shooters. East Chambers is just a one man team. I felt bad for Thomas, he has no help right now. Silsbee went to a box and one and just denied Thomas the ball. The game did get a little sloppy in the 2nd half, but middle of 3rd quarter, this game was over. Highlite, Shannon Robinson fed a picture perfect ally oop slam to '6"6 soph. Avory Thomas, brought down the house.
  15. That is true. WOS only had 11 offensive plays for just 22 yards for the entire 2nd half. It was kind of a reversal of fortune since the Mustangs have been a 2nd half team all year.
  16. Looks like Chris will be back on the PGA tour next year after firing a round of -8 64 today in the 5th round. He is currently tied for 2nd and has at least a 7 shot lead over the 25th spot which is the line that determines who gets their card or not. Top 25 and ties earn a PGA tour card.
  17. That is right. KSHN 99.9 has the rights to Dayton football games. They do their broadcasts on radio and web. I don't believe they would like it too much for us to do the game also. I would be more than happy to do the game. I am going anyway to give some updates.
  18. It doesn't matter what takes place in the playoffs, it will not effect the all district picks. The coaches have already picked them, did that the Wed. following the last regular season game. The picks are only made public until the last team in the district is no longer in the playoffs.
  19. What I see happening is, with 2 of the Baytown schools dropping down to 4A and the possibility of Channelview going back to 4A , the UIL will have to consider one of these two districts to be a 10 team district. The UIL doesn't like odd numbered districts. 21-4A Barbers Hill C.E. King Galena Park Forest Brook Crosby Channelview Smiley Baytown Lee Baytown Memorial Huffman 22-4A Dayton LCM PNG Ozen Central Vidor Lumberton Nederland That leaves Dayton and Barbers Hill as the swing teams. You could leave Dayton and Barbers Hill right where they are and 21-4A would be the 10 team district or you could move Barbers Hill and Huffman to 22-4A and make that district the 10 team district. Everything depends on where the 2 Baytown schools end up enrollment wise and if Channelview does go back down.
