the beginning of the end for Jasper
AggiesAreWe replied to j_dog's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I do believe that is how it went down. He had put it originally on the Silsbee side then over corrected it on the Jasper side. When Silsbee hit the three to go up 21-18, the scoreboard showed 21-21. That's when Stubblefield hit his three and they just left the score remain as is. -

I haven't had time to listen to my replay of the broadcast. I will go over it when I get home Sunday and see if I can find the errors. I was asked by some folks at the scoring table at halftime if I could listen to the replay of the first half, but we don't have that capabilities, YET, with our broadcast. I would of have to end the broadcast and start all over. -
Heck with the calls, it seemed to those of us sitting where we were that they were not even putting scores on the board. Early on, Silsbee had 4 points, made a two, and the scoreboard never changed. Then, later Jasper made a three, and the board did not change. Jasper coach appealed, but after a long discussion, didn't get the points. Were they THAT bad on the score-keeping, or did we miss something? In the words of Charles Barkley, "That scoreboard operator is tuurruble, just tuurruble!"

As the famous ring announcer Michael Buffer would say, " Let's get ready to rumblllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle!!!!!!!!! I am proud to be bringing you the broadcast of these two fine schools as the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks will take on the Jasper Bulldogs in tonight's class 3A Region III Regional final at Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Sam Houston State University. The Hawks come in to this game after a hard fought win over the Lufkin Hudson Hornets, 54-51, and have now made their third straight trip to the regional finals. Jasper on the other hand is experiencing something they have never seen before as they got their biggest win in school history last night, defeating Silsbee 62-60 in the Dawgs first ever regional tourney game. Some say the experience of the coaching staff and players for HJ gives the Hawks an over whelming advantage but that was the case last night when Jasper faced the Tigers. This should be another exciting game and broadcast just like the two semifinal games were last night. Broadcast time will start at 6:10 with tipoff at 6:30. Listen in on another exciting broadcast of SETXsports and catch all the action right here as HJ and Jasper battle to see who gets to make that trip to The Drum in Austin and represent Region III and Southeast Texas. Good luck to both teams tonight and I am looking forward to another great game. Mike Sanchez, Tiger Sports and SETXsports.com broadcaster

I think Jasper had a flat night last night. Bailey and Stubblefield were missing open three's that normally are gimmes for them. If a few more of those had fallen, it would have been a wide open game. By the way, anyone know what happened with the one three that Stubblefield did hit? It was a clear, no question net swish and the scoreboard did not change. The Jasper coach appealed, but they did not give Jasper the basket. The scoreboard operator was the worst I have ever seen. And this guy handles it for Sam Houston games, what I was told. Terrible! He was constantly having to change fouls, scores, putting the wrong points and/or fouls on the wrong team or player. He did it in both games. -
BTW Spinks, do you know if the Hawks will be home or visitor for tonight's game? I need to know so I wear the right color shirt. I think you Hawk fans will like it. ;D

Point taken, spinks. But you are wrong on how I feel. I am glad that HJ is still in the playoffs even though I was really looking forward to a 4th game between the Hawks and Tigers. I will be very happy to broadcast a HJ win tonight. Just so I broadcast up to your standards, I will do the best I can to keep an unbiased broadcast tonight, even though I will be pulling for your Hawks.

I do get a consolation prize tomorrow. I get in the Sam Houston basketball game for free tomorrow. Get a seat at press row. ;D

Jasper by 50!!!! No way the Hawks can stay on the same floor as the Dawgs! It's over, it's over. HJ, don't show up! You'll regret it. (now, back to you regular programming) ;D
-
That would be shocking ;D ;D Wouldn't be the first shock I have gotten tonight.

Well I am sitting in the jacuzzi, laptop at my fingertips, drinking a few cold ones. I am starting to feel better. Of course, until this laptop happens to fall in the jacuzzi with me. ;D

Yes, Silsbee played without a key backup tonight. Rahkeem Bolton did not make the trip do to disciplinary reasons.

I thought Silsbee killed Jasper on the boards the whole night. It was hard for me to figure out why Silsbee wasn't feeding the ball to Stallworth and the other big man. My goodness that was a talented Silsbee team that Jasper beat. The technical was a horrible call from what I saw and not having that kid out there was a tremendous downer for the Tigers. If Jasper could have made a few free throws in the 4th quarter I wouldn't have been sweating near as much that last minute. Nope. The final totals on the boards: Silsbee 37 Jasper 34

You don't know me very well. -
My next 6 months of meals will be crow, crow, crow, crow, crow and some more crow. I better come up with more ways to cook it because I can only eat so much of it fried. (and no Kenny, that's not what I'll be ordering tomorrow night ;D) Jasper, you came to play, no doubt you guys deserved the win. Bailey and Spikes were just too much for Silsbee, they played great. Also, Jasper battled evenly on the boards with Silsbee which I thought we would have a great advantage over Jasper. I will not sit here and make excuses for the Tigers, they just didn't play well at all. Congrats to Jasper on a great win. This should be a historical win for the program. Great job Coach Young, job well done. To my Tigers, congrats on a fine season. This is not the result we were all wanting or expecting, but you played your hearts out and I am proud of you all. Now let's get ready for HJ/Jasper regional final, winner goes to Austin. Good luck to both teams.
