  1. The Hawks just keep on keeping on, 71-64 HJ. I truely believe this year's Hawk team is now better than last year's team. I was one of the doubters early in the season thinking that there's no way they could be better losing a fantastic player in Ryan Donahoe. But I was wrong. Jarvis Benard has now taken over the role that Ryan had last year and the Hawks aren't missing a beat. IMO, he is every bit as good as Ryan and still has another year to go. Good luck Hawks. ( of course until you meet my Tigers )
  2. Well, my plan to personaly donate the entire amount needed to get the football program started and funds left over to cover operating costs for the next 5 years went by the wayside last night. My numbers didn't come up. It would have been nice to watch a Lamar football game from Sanchez Stadium.
  3. I didn't miss this one by much. Final was 73-63, Navasota.
  4. Get your checkbook out, Season tickets are expected to go on sale this summer....according to the news. I am not concerned about the season tickets, that's a done deal with me. What I am interested in is buying a suite. I say Setxsports buys one when they go on sale. What do you say Jordan? You can put me down for a share.
  5. It's going to be tough for EC to win this one. I heard through the grapevine that George W. got 2 of his secret service guys appointed to his ranch in Crawford to be the refs in this game. Buccaneers vetoed!! All kidding aside, EC wins, 76-64.
  6. Stafford plays the same style as Orangefield does. Deliberate, motion offense, with maybe a little more up tempo. Defensively, mostly zone but will run a halfcourt trap, not much on fullcourt pressing. Their tallest player is '6"3, not much overall height but solid at the guard positions. Seven seniors on this team with 4 of them starters. They are district co champs with Sweeny, 13-1 in district, but played many a close game in district, not really blowing anyone out except for maybe 1 or 2 games. I believe Silsbee's quick guards and more depth will get them the win. The Tigers will have to shoot better than they did Tuesday, both from the field and from the foul line. I am pretty sure Stafford saw how KP continually put Silsbee at the foul line forcing them to win it from there. I look for the same from them. Silsbee 69 Stafford 57
  7. Orangefield's season ends Friday, sad to say. I am really pulling for the Bobcats to get somewhat revenge for their Lady Bobcats, but Navasota just a bit too strong. Rattlers win this one 74-60.
  8. Correction, he tied for district, he won the #1 seed. We Tigers got to hold on to something. ;D yea a 22 point loss :D :D touche'

  10. First off, congrats to Silsbee for advancing to the next round. Also to Kingwood Park, great job Coach Amorosa, keep up the good work. As for the game, poor shooting from the Tigers, 16-36 from the freethrow line and missing dozens of point blank shots almost spelled doom for Silsbee. This was probably their worst shooting night of the season. Three Tiger starters fouled out as Silsbee really never adjusted to the tight officiating being called. I give Kingwood Park credit, for being no more than a JV team ( they were only freshman and soph. ) they came to play and played their butts off. I liked Coach Amorosa's decision to sub in 3 players at a time when the Panthers went on defense in order to just foul Silsbee and force them to win it from the freethrow line. It was his designated foulee's so to speak and it almost worked. The Panthers ended up having 3 players foul out also. The difference at the end was Silsbee's big men getting some key blocked shots on the smaller Panther team and Silsbee making a couple of freethrows to keep that 7-10 point cushion. D.K. Howard was not himself last night, he played with a bum ankle, definitely slowed him down at times. Jake Powell of Kingwood Park was definitely the player of the game. This FRESHMAN had 27 points and 13 rebounds along with 6 assists and was just all over the court, Silsbee had no answer for him. Powell put his team on his shoulders last night and almost willed them to victory. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this youngster the next 3 years. Great job young man!!!! Again congrats to the Tigers on the win, you know this wasn't your best but you still came out on top and that's what matters. To Kingwood Park, great job, nothing to hang your head about. It is obvious you are a very, very well coached team and despite your inexperience, you played with great heart and desire. I believe the roots of a solid program are being well established there. Good luck.
  11. :... I guess I shouldn't let the AAU circuit surprise me anymore since my kids play it. But are you saying this kid was picked through his AAU performance and not the high school stats? You mean to say McDonald ALL-American has slithered down this low? Yeah, that is why I have issue with it...To be named McDonalds AA, you should be a intragal part of your HIGH SCHOOL TEAM...This year he was not..But was still selected...THAT, I have issue with because a kid like Tremain who exhibited ALL of the qualities of a McDonalds AA, was only nominated...I DO have an issue with that.. I am with you on this one, Dick. I might could understand if a player missed due to injury, but for disciplinary reasons, NO WAY!!! McDonald's AA just dropped in my book.
  12. i THOUGHT THAT WAS cLEVELAND SILSBEE LOST TO AFTER BLOWING THEM OUT TWICE BY MORE THAN 20 DURING THE REGULAR SEASON... tHAD hOLDEN, LOU, AND MON WAS ON THAT TEAM... THEY WERE GREAT AND THE ONLY TEAM IN THE AREA TO BEAT EMMANUAL MCELROY LED LINCOLN THAT YEAR. No it was Chapel Hill, they snowbirded us all night, never adjusted to it. That Silsbee team was very deep that year, 14 deep actually. Sigler would sub 5 at a time about every 4 minutes in the first 3 quarters, would simply run the other teams ragged. That Tiger team was loaded with talent.
  13. I have two that comes to mind. The first as a player losing to Bmt. Hebert in '82 in a district playoff ( back then only the district champion advanced to the playoffs ) We split our district games and then lost to them in the Beaumont Civic Center in the playoff. Both teams were ranked in the top 3 all season long, flip flopping at times. I read in an article in the Austin American Statesman where they had interviewed Coach Fred Williams about his third consecutive trip to the state tourney, and he was quoted saying " We feel very fortunate to be here this year, I think the best team is back in Silsbee and not here in Austin ". Hebert went on to win their third consecutive state championship. As for a fan, it had to be in '98, when Silsbee was 32-0, #1 in state all year, and nationally ranked, then lost in the first round of the playoffs to Chapel Hill. That was a tough one to swallow, Silsbee was clearly the better team, was just out coached. I went to the state tourney that year, and from my perspective, there was no team there that Silsbee couldn't handle, maybe even the 5A class that year, IMO. Another one would have to be last year when Silsbee lost to HJ in the regional finals, which most felt was the state championship game. Silsbee led almost the entire game, then fell apart at the end and lost in overtime. I still believe the better team won, but the Tigers had the Hawks, just couldn't close it.
  14. This is true. There is a very good reason why Coach Brooks ( assistant ) has been doing alot of the " coaching " during games of late and not Travis. I too will not post the reason here on this messageboard, but rest assure, Travis Williams is the head coach.
  15. I will be in Barbers Hill Tuesday night to broadcast the Silsbee-Kingwood Park Bi-District game. This should be a great matchup and should continue to be another great Setxsports broadcast. Come out to the game or catch it here. Playoff time folks, another exciting time here at Setxsports. I apologize to the Orangefield and Coldspring fans. Due to some scheduling difficulties we could not do that game tonight. The 6:30 start time just a bit too early. Sorry for the mixup.
  16. I was on talking to him about attendance and the lack of from the students. It's a crying shame that the students aren't attending the games. If we have 4,000 in attendance, about 100 are actual Lamar students. >
  17. I met Jim last year, and our paths have crossed a few times this year, nice guy, dedicated to his profession. Prayers out to him and his family.
  18. Man, this is easy, Silsbee by 35, 42-7. Oh wait, this is the baseball board. Sorry. Silsbee wins, 6-4
  19. I say 6800 at best.
  20. BTW, Brown did not play in the game on Saturday. I did see him late Friday night at the HJ-Silsbee game, sat a couple of seats down from me at the press table.
  21. I will be keeping a book for all of the Setxsports.com games of the week that I will be broadcasting. Keeping a book while I broadcast baseball games is a little easier than doing it for basketball, a little slower pace I think. I will post the stats for the games I do.
  22. I was thinking somewhere between $200,000 and $225,000. I don't believe Lamar will go over $250,000.
  23. Yes, that is correct. I was just wanting to know which gym at the high school would host the single game ( Silsbee game ) and which will host the double header ( West Brook, Dayton games) I am needing to know in order to make a decision on my broadcast for Tuesday night.
