I will be traveling down to Rice country as the #1 ranked(Setx) #8 ranked(TABC) Silsbee Tigers will take on the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns in a district 21-3A battle. Silsbee looks to remain undefeated in district and with a win, will clinch at least a co-district championship. A combination of a Tiger win and a Hardin-Jefferson loss to WOS would give Silsbee the outright district title. Hamshire-Fannett will try to save a little face from the big loss they took from the Tigers last time out, 106-28. I beleive the Longhorns will come ready to play and try to make amends for that loss. Broadcast time will be at 7:15 with tipoff around 7:30. How is this any different than the HJ post last week when a HJ freshman player said they had gone undefeated so far. Silsbee fans jumped on him and said that under levels scores and records were irrelevant!!!!!! I am not condoning what any other Silsbee fan said in that thread. I am only defending what I posted here in this thread. I don't think that underlevel scores and records are irrelevant. I do think that they have nothing to do with how they will perform at the varsity level. Lot's of things can change in that short of time. I only posted that Silsbee JV is on the verge of winning a district championship, not that they will win a district championship at the varsity level. That remains to be seen. thats right AAW... why the heck would you put this.. i dont care... if ya'll jump on us for talking about how our freshman team killed ya'lls then this is stupid also.... I did not jump on anyone about HJ's freshman team beating Silsbee. I never said it was stupid. What I do think is stupid is ANYONE claiming that because a freshman or JV team beat another, that will directly result in that team beating them on the varsity level. That's ludicrous.

Let's see, where do I start first knocking holes in your post. Yes, first of all, you are correct that 4A takes 4 teams to the playoffs, BUT, district ends next Tuesday night and the playoffs don't start till the following Tuesday night. The Friday and Saturday in between is left for any tie breaker games needed or if anyone chooses to have a warm up game. So there is an opportunity for these teams to play. I personally believe that would be the case. What I was disputing with you was the fact that YOU thought that it was in Silsbee's best interest not to play those teams and I said I will trust Travis judgment as to what HE feels is best for his team and what he thinks would be good for HIS team. I'll trust him with that decision, not you. I am willing to bet you and anyone else that Silsbee would not lose by 40-50 points to either one of these teams. Also, just because Silsbee and Ozen played to a one point game in NOVEMBER, doesn't mean that Ozen would blow Silsbee out now. How do figure that one? Is it because you feel only Ozen can get better as the season progress's and not anyone else? Silsbee is pretty battle tested and you and I both know that Ozen is not as good with Saveat at the helm compared to Boutte. Boutte was the coach back in November. I agree, Walter, that playoff basketball is about momentum, but if Silsbee gets the opportunity to play either Yates or Wheatly, I wouldn't doubt Travis decision in playing them. I would trust that it would only do Silsbee good, would be no harm. By your words, they would definetly not play anyone better in the 3A playoffs. Now lets get you straightened out, Mr. Sanchez....If the district schedule ends on Tuesday as you say, Greg Wise would not waste his time playing Silsbee. period. They are taking four teams and have to play an extra game as district champs to get to regionals and state, so the key word for a pressing team is fresh legs and rest. Your tigers MAY not get beat by 40-50 (probably 30) but either way it would not be a "good loss" if there is such a thing. Yates and Wheatley press 32 minutes, but they are bigger, faster, and stronger than your guys...(I have seen them ALL play so that is not just a 4A-3A statement) which also means that the window for injury would be greater in an up tempo game versus a more physical opponent. Mike, I can assure you that your team would not play Ozen to a one point game again, even without Willie or Boutte at the helm...Silsbee played over their heads and Ozen played un-inspired and still won the game...You play them now and your team gets beat...probably real bad....I don't think you realize it, but I am pulling for your tigers to go all the way..I really am...Just don't get besides yourself in your assessment of them versus other teams in higher classifications...Yates, Wheatley and Ozen are GOOD 4A squads that could represent region 3 in Austin, so its no crime that Silsbee really cant stand next to them at THIS point in the season. First of all, the question wasn't about Coach Wise CHOOSING to play Silsbee, it was if there was a possibility to play the game. I showed that there is a possibility since the schedule would allow it. You said that they COULD not play based on the fact that 4A took 4 teams. Now you say the coach would not do it based on playing too many games. I would totally understand a coach not wanting to play too many games, but you were saying it couldn't happen because of the schedule. That's not true. I believe that Ozen would probably win a rematch, but to say it would be a blow out is down right ridiculous. Without Boutte and Jefferson, this would be another close game, maybe not 1 point, but close. That's not being a homer, that's just understanding the game of basketball. To claim that Ozen played uninspired basketball the last time these two played is a knock on Boutte. I don't beleive that to be the case. I never said that Silsbee could hang with the Yates and Wheatlys, but I don't think they would lose by 40-50 points. I know what kind of team Silsbee is and what their limitations are. It can be solved by using a three-way playoff. You have a coin flip to determine which team sits and awaits the winner of the other two teams. Then those two playoff to determine that playoff team. 19-4A is doing that in the girls basketball.

Uh, Dicky, wrong. According to reports, sources and the article itself, it stated that he was contacted and informed that afternoon, BEFORE the game with Central. I am hip to the rest of what you are saying(except that you ALWAYS want to lump the entire Southeast Texas area into your your racist antics) but don't come on here and make things up to defend Saveat. He knew and the school knew BEFORE the Central game.

How quickly this gets turned to a HJ/Silsbee pissing contest. All I wanted with this thread was to praise the Silsbee JV and Coach Brooks. Then another Tiger fan has to bring HJ into it and the flood gates open with all the condescending Hawk fans and their remarks. ST4life, there is no guarentee that Silsbee will be on top next year, but I like their chances. HJ will be fine, their coaching staff alone will keep them near the top. Nos, your feathers get ruffled pretty easily, you need tougher skin. As for Mr. Nash, his comments are not surpising, he is as sarcastic as they come.

I would be interested to know if the BISD athletic policy is like this.

I understand all this about law and education laws and due process. I am glad Tiger90 has posted this info. It does help others to understand. My whole beef about this incident is that Saveat claims he did not know. I agree that he probably did not know from the beginning but he was informed of the arrest BEFORE Tuesday night's game against Central yet he allowed Jefferson to play in that game. Now the school district wants to suspend him for these final two games after they have clinched the district title and these two games are meaningless. That's what stinks to high heaven. I agree, if the misdemeanor doesn't warrent school suspension, then why suspend him at all? It just looks like they are trying to save face. If they have a school policy that supports school suspension, then why wasn't he suspended for the Central game when all parties knew about it? I think we all know the answer to that.

Who said the rules have changed as we go? It has been the same since we started. I can't help the fact that some of you are slow starters. Maybe it took some of you a week or two to figure out how it is played. You know, any of you could have started a pickem contest with your set of rules.

After Friday night, it will be 80. come one AAW lets make the minimum of 60 games ;D i missed the second time because i did not realize this was going to be an every game thing and i still have the highest winning percentage i should not be punished for this ;D I am the King. You shall be punished.

So. District policy states that a student is to suspended until the legal matter is complete. That is not the case here. Missing these two particular games is a joke and a slap in the face to the educational system.

With a win Friday night against Hamshire-Fannett, Silsbee JV will clinch the district championship. They are undefeated in district like their fellow varsity mates and that's with 3 of the JV players now on varsity along with 2 other soph. that are starters on varsity. Great job Coach Ira Brooks and great season to the JV players. Tiger Basketball Tradition continues.
