My question is this, with such a great football program rich in tradition there at WOS, why so little participation? There are schools with simiular enrollment numbers that field entire freshman and JV teams. Heck, Kirbyville has 300 less students, and they field 3 teams. Silsbee's enrollment numbers are only about 50 students more than WOS, and the Tigers have about 30 apiece on the freshman and JV teams, along with about 38 on varsity. I'm just wondering what's up with the lack of participation. On another note, there also seems to be a drop in fan support over there. I announced the freshman and JV games between WOS and Silsbee, and I bet there were not more than 12 people total in the stands for WOS. It was a shame. Those kids need the support also, not just the varsity.

If a stadium is available and both schools agree upon it, then it's just that simple. When there is no agreement, that's when coin tosses come into play. In some cases you will actually flip for a home game if neither team can agree on a neutral site. There are cases of flipping for neutral sites. In this case, Groveton may have won a flip on choosing Bowers Stadium, but I don't know for sure.

how many trips to state tourney have you made
AggiesAreWe replied to 24 over par's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Well, if I make it this year (which I am pretty sure I will) it will be my 37th consecutive year. My dad took me to my first one in 1972, we have been going every year since. He actually started going in 1958, made his 50th straight state tourney this past March. God willing, he'll be there with me again this March. -
Like I said in my previous post, I thought the rule was one game a week. With it only involving the sub varsity teams, I think that is why no one really cared about WOS doing that. Now, if players were playing Thursday and Friday nights, I am quite sure they would be called on it. This just in, WOS freshman and JV teams have to forfeit all there games for breaking UIL rules of having players play 2 games in one night. Film at 11. ;D

I do know this, when WOS played Silsbee, the Mustangs fielded a freshman team but only had about 8 players for their JV. The freshman game was played and then about 3/4 of the freshman team joined those 8 players and made up the WOS jv team. Silsbee had about 30 players for both squads so they never combined teams. There was a question about if this was legal to do. Under UIL rules, a player can only play 1 football game a week. Since it was only sub varsity level, I don't think anyone cared about it.

WO-S vs. Coldspring/Saturday Nov. 17th 2 PM In Dayton
AggiesAreWe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am confused as to how they can already arrange a playoff game when there is still some doubt as to who is going where. If HF manages to slip in to the playoffs, which btw is a slim chance, that would force WOS to Div. 1. If Coldspring wins their game and Cleveland loses their game Friday night, Coldspring would be the #1 seed in Div 2 and would play Kirbyville. Just too many other scenarios that could happen to be already scheduling a time, place and opponent. What I believe has happened, is that WOS reserved a stadium for their first round game, but the opponent still has not been officially determined. Coldspring may have agreed to that site IF they play WOS, but Splendora or Cleveland may or may have not. Just seems a little presumptious. -

Silsbee resident wins lottery!!!!! -
I thought it was a smart thing to do by splitting the two issues. It would have been bad for the whole bond to fail because of the turf being lumped in with it. This way, the needed improvements for the schools are taken care of. By the looks of the voting, it would have definetly failed if the turf was lumped in. Turf is not necessary, but the new and improved buildings are. Kudos to the planners. Now, if these officials try to use some of this 47 million to " sneak in" the turf, they better get ready for a bundle of law suits coming.

lol coming from you, that's pretty funny. -
You, my fellow Tiger fan are clueless. First of all, it did not matter who one or lost that game in '04 in deciding what teams they would play. Silsbee was already going Div. 1 and Jasper was going Div 2 third seed after losing to Kirbyville earlier that year. Only thing that mattered was Silsbee winning the district title outright. So to say that Jasper played inferior teams is just bogus. The Bulldogs got on a roll in the playoffs and beat some very good teams along the way, was just a play away from winning the whole thing. Silsbee got wholloped by Palestine, a team that I think probably would have beaten Jasper also, but we will never know. Bottom line is, Jasper made it to the state finals, and my Tigers got knocked out in the first round. My advice to you is, know your facts before you open your mouth.

Week 11 Michigan @ Wisconsin Alabama @ Mississippi State Arkansas @ Tennessee Florida @ South Carolina Auburn @ Georgia Florida State @ Virginia Tech Texas Tech @ Texas Kansas @ Oklahoma State Southern Cal @ California North Carolina @ North Carolina State

You could do this in Div 2 only. In Div 1, you can get two district champions playing each other in the first round. Example, Silsbee was district champs in '04 and played Palestine, who also were district champs, in the first round. It happens alot in Div 1.

The odds are very slim. First, HF has to beat Kirbyville( which IMO they won't), then they need Silsbee to beat Jasper by at least 17 points ( which I believe Silsbee will win but only by a point or two ). After that, all three teams, HF, Silsbee, and Jasper will be 4-3 and a 0 on the point system. Then it will come to either a coin flip or a point differential of the other district games. So, it doesn't look good for the Longhorns.

****Kirbyville 29 Silsbee 28 Final/Comments****
AggiesAreWe replied to jdawg03's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
On offense, the Tigers are losing all 5 of their offensive lineman, 3 of their top 5 recivers but will return the qb and both rb's plus 2 recivers. On defense, Silsbee loses 3 of 4 defensive lineman, and 3 of 4 defensive backs, but return all 4 of their linebackers and their strong safety who is probably their best defensive player. The Tigers return some very special players on offense, Johnson at qb and Castle and Barnes at rb, plus Roundtree at reciever but will have to rebuild on the offensive line, which should be okay. They will be a smaller group up front but quicker. Having your skill players back will be a good thing. On defense, with both ends and middle backers coming back with one other d lineman returning, Silsbee should be pretty stable on that side of the ball. They will have to come up with some defensive backs but with the likes of Castle, Barnes, and Roundtree, they should fill in accordingly. Bottom line is, Silsbee will practically have all their playmakers back, but lose all of their interior lineman on both sides. -
Only if HF beats Kirbyville. If Silsbee beats Jasper and Kirbyville defeats HF, Kirbyville will be runnerup with a 6-1 record and Silsbee will be 3rd with a 4-3 record. Jasper will also be 4-3 but loses out because of the head to head loss to Silsbee. HF is not in because they would end up 3-4 in district. The points will only come into play if HF wins and Silsbee wins.
