  2. If it means anything, Silsbee's JV is undefeated in district play.
  3. HJ loses starters Benard and Burrell, they return '6"0 Turner, '5"7 Gustafson and '6"3 Ricossa. HJ also loses Klages and Spell, Klages being one of their top reserves. The Hawks return '5"9 Sutherland, '6"0 Venable, '6"0 Weldon, '6"2 Nobles, and recently brought up '6"2 Anderson. Silsbee loses starters Robinson and Walters, they return '5"9 Hill, '6"4 Stallworth and '6"2 Lane. Silsbee also loses Byars, Archer and Skinner, with Byars being a crucial reserve that will graduate. Silsbee has '6"6 Thomas, '6"6 Barnes and '6"2 Harris returning for them. Of the HJ returnee's 5 are juniors, 3 are soph. Of the Silsbee returnee's, 2 are juniors, 4 are soph.
  4. Gerry, first let me say I do appreciate what the Silsbee Bee does for Silsbee athletics. You guys cover the Tigers very well and I am grateful for what you and Danny do there at our hometown paper. I do understand the monetary aspect of it all. I have to deal with it here at this site when doing our broadcasts. But I felt that this game was big enough to be above that, and I think should have been covered.
  5. I talk about it in that first paragraph of my post.
  6. I didn't say we were playing well. But if you call for his head after 5 games is just dumb. Yeah he hasn't made the best decisions, but not all coaches get it right. Look at #4 Wake coming off a win over the #1 team in the nation and they lost to Georgia Tech, who was winless in the ACC, I wonder if their fans were calling for the coaches head after then. I don't think anyone is calling for Roc's head after 5 games. If I am not mistaken, Roc has been here for more than 5 games.
  7. No offense taken, Bobcat05. I totally understand your questions, they are legit. But from what I gathered, these two schools tried to get their refs two weeks prior and was put on hold. To me it is very suspicious.
  8. Just 31 huh. Looks like a stepping stone to me.
  9. You can forget Alverez. He is an AD, he will not take the Jasper job unless it included the AD job.
  10. This is the info I have gathered regarding the situation with officials for the Silsbee/HJ varsity and sub varsity games. Coach Travis Williams of Silsbee and Coach Todd Sutherland of Hardin-Jefferson contacted the Beaumont Chapter of Officials two weeks prior to the game to notify them that Travis had a scratch for the game at HJ and Todd had a scratch for the game at Silsbee. The scratches were turned in and several days later the chapter came back with a list of only FOUR officials that Silsbee and HJ could choose from, NONE of which either coach felt comfortable having in a game of that magnitude. So both coaches informed the chapter that the choices given were not acceptable for this game. Both coaches presented a list of officials they would agree on (a list that was 10 deep).....the chapter said none were available. Basically, the chapter refused to move the ten requested out of other games. Moving officials around happens all the time. I mean all you have to do is look at how they are handling the situation with the two injured refs, they are having to move officials around for their games and they are doing it w/o a problem and not notifying anyone in the process. Once Coach Williams and Coach Sutherland were told that they couldn't have any of the officials requested, both coaches told them they would go to UIL for officials. Both schools waited 24 hours after telling the chapter before they decided to go with the UIL, just to give the chapter a chance to change their mind. The chapter didn't change their mind so therefore they went with the UIL. Both teams wanted to use Beaumont and have used Beaumont for EVERY district level game between the two teams up to this point. So after they went UIL.....suddenly the 9th/JV fallout happened. Coincidence??? I think not. I found out from both HJ and Silsbee coaches that Coach Williams got a call from the underlevel assigner of the Bmt. Chapter around 10am Friday morning and was asked "who was calling your game for tonight" and Travis told her they were officials from the SFA chapter. She said "okay" and that was the end of the conversation. Then suddenly they don't have underlevel officials as of 3:30 pm. So it now looks pretty obvious that it was done on purpose. Also, Roy Washington was supposed to call that game. He tore his ACL in the HJ / Kountze game at the beginning of the year. NO ONE in the chapter serving area has been notified of his season ending injury and they just put someone else in his place without notifying the coaches of who it will be. Still even when they were called about the scratches about this game, no one informed anyone about Roy Washington being out for the year......same thing has happened to Jon Jones and he is supposed to call the HF @ OF game next Friday night........No one has notified HJ or Orangefield of him not being able to do the game. This to me shows a big lack of communication between the chapter and the area coaches. Also it shows that the leadership in the chapter are not doing their jobs. I have learned from my investigation that the sub level games(9th and JV) are filled by a sign up sheet. How can that possibly work? If you don't have enough to sign up, what happens then? To me, it should be on a merit system that requires you to do sub varsity games to enable you to get varsity games. Those officials should be appointed those underlevel games until they have worked their way up the ladder. As for the varsity games, particularly this one in question, the chapter could have moved some officials to do this game. A list of 10 was provided yet the chapter couldn't or "wouldn't" move any around to accommodate. After Silsbee and HJ both decided to go with the UIL, it looks as though the Beaumont chapter decided to not send any officials to do the sub varsity games. This looks to have been done out of spite. The Beaumont Chapter looks to be ran in a clique. If you are not in it, you are not accommodated.
  11. Thanks Nos. Yes I do know that Ned beat HJ. The use of the term was not only meant for the bigness of the game but also it was intended to mean that Ned and PNG basketball history cannot compare to Silsbee and HJ. I can't remember when Ned and PNG went to the playoffs but we all know about Silsbee and HJ's prowess in the playoffs. I felt the Silsbee/HJ game was way bigger in all aspects compared to Ned/PNG. Therefore, it should have been covered.
  12. First of all, you are wrong by saying that Travis requested the UIL. Both schools agreed to use the UIL when they were told that the BMT. Chapter refs that both schools agreed upon would not be available. Also, if you will look at HJ's losses this year, all 5 of them have come at home. I will be posting a thread today explaining what went down with the Silsbee/HJ ref problem.
  13. It was a pleasure meeting you Poppa. Hope to see you at the Tiger Den in a couple of weeks.
  14. 2-5 in conference, with a 1-3 home record. It's not looking good for the Cards. With only 9 conference games left, 5 of which are on the road, Lamar has to win all 4 home games and go at least 3-2 on the road to secure a spot in the conference tourney.
  15. Lamar on a different home court streak. They lose their third in a row at home, go down 67-66 on last second tip in.
  16. Nothing suprises me about the coverage or "lack of" from the Beaumont "Suprise". You have two state ranked teams, both of which are the last 2 years Regional champ, one being a state champion, and you choose Ned/PNG???? These teams can't hold Silsbee's and HJ's jock strap when it comes to basketball. I can understand the Livingston/Ozen coverage, but you have to cover THE BEST GAME in Southeast Texas!!!!
  17. If you hang some bologna from a string, that is how we caught crawfish when we were kids. ;D LMAO!!! Good one Jay!
  18. Tyler County??? There is no 4A team in all of Tyler County. If you are refering to Livingston, then you should know that town resides in Polk County.
  19. Hopefully Silsbee's Josh Skinner will be out till after March 14. He's busy trying to win him a state championship medal. ;D
  20. Come out from under that rock, whiz.
  21. That scuffle happened just a few feet from me. But I had my bodyguards ready for action. ;D You need to tell the cameraman to get a few shots of me and our website banner when he does a Silsbee game.
  22. LMAO!!!! Well, my boys Bif and Rocko have dug a few holes in their time, I imagine they can find one also. ;D
  23. Do I have to send Bif and Rocko to find you? ;D
  24. Never was a doubt, my friend.
  25. You just gotta love that new screen name of your's. ;D ;D ;D ;D
