  1. I think Rick Barnes is wrong when stating that it was the same criteria for Durant that it was for Ford. T.J. did more, taking his team to a final four. One year just isn't enough. This is really silly, kind of demoralizes the others who got their numbers retired at that school.
  2. I agree, the '77 team was probably Silsbee's best, lost in state semis to eventual state champ Dickinson 12-0. Dickinson won the state game over Brownwood 40-14. Many have said the Silsbee-Dickinson game was really the championship game. I also liked the '98 Silsbee team. After starting off the season 2-3, this team kept getting better and better every week, finally losing to LaMarque in the regional finals 21-12. LaMarque lost in the state finals that year to Stephenville. p.s. The Tigers started their playoff run that year with a first round win over previously undefeated WOS. Loved that game. ;D
  3. Just stay humble Lumberton, just stay humble. Until you guys make the playoffs, it's best to be that way.
  4. Willie Jones was a fine athlete, but IMO, not good enough to make this list.
  5. Not sure where Desmond is at these days. I do know this, he is the only athlete that has come through Silsbee that was district MVP in both football and basketball his senior year. That's pretty impressive to me. Probably one of the best athletes to ever come through Silsbee.
  6. Like I said in the thread, this list is based on not just high school performance but college and pro. Randy Matthews was a very good qb but I have to give the knod to Bobby McGallion, He holds all the qb records at Silsbee and he went on to be the starting qb for Bill Yeoman's Houston Cougars for a couple of years. Craig McGallion did play defensive line for Silsbee his senior year, played lb his soph. and jr. years. He did go on to play d-line at UH. Sid was a good reciever, but I think Desmond Doss brought more to the position and as for Garrett, well he played several years for the Pittsburgh Steelers at that position, winning a couple of Super Bowls. As for Gary McGuire, yes he did not play his senior year at Silsbee due to injury, but I could not leave off a player after playing his four years at UH, leaving the school as the school's all-time leading tackler and at that time the SWC's leading tackler.
  7. There were several players that I left off my Silsbee list, too numerous to name. I had to cut it off somewhere. That's just who I thought was the best.
  8. Here's my all time Silsbee High School team: QB Bobby "Bubba" McGallion RB Artie Shankle RB Jay McGuire WR Desmond Doss WR Dewayne Garrett TE Anthony Land OL Britt Lively OL Ahmad Jones OL Gerald Skinner OL Charles Powell OL Tommy Dunnigan DL Pat Henry DL Craig McGallion DL Hiawatha Hickman DL William Morrissey LB Doug Shankle LB Derryl Ray McGallion LB Gary McGuire DB William Graham DB James Hunter DB Curtis Buckley DB tie B.K. Johnson and Anthony Lang
  9. List your school's all time players for each position based their high school, college and NFL performance (if applicable ). qb rb rb wr wr te ol ol ol ol ol dl dl dl dl lb lb lb db db db db
  10. I think what needs to be done here is for everyone to post their school's all time players at each position then we can work from there. I'll start a new thread.
  11. Kerry, I believe you and Jordan are wrong on a couple of things, but all in all, the rest I can agree on. Where you guys are wrong( and I can understand about Jordan since he is a Bulldog), is where you guys have Jasper going to the playoffs and Silsbee not going. I believe you guys are selling Silsbee a little too short and giving Jasper too much credit, particularly where Brooks is concerned. He's a very good coach, but it will take more than just one year to get those Dawgs back where they belong.
  12. Beasley was a great athlete playing quarterback, not a great quarterback, there is a difference. If he was a great qb, he would have been recruited by t.u. for that position, not defensive back.
  13. Just like the Beasley call on Dodge, Joe Washington and Jamaal Charles were better than Reggie Davis.
  14. I agree with the Bulldog fans. Being a Tiger myself, it's a no brainer, Silsbee-Jasper is the rivalry.
  15. No way does Beasley beat out Todd Dodge at quarterback.
  16. I stand corrected on the Sterling-Central score, was closer than I thought, even though I did mention that I wasn't sure about the score. My point was, Silsbee dominated Sterling and so should have Central.
  17. Okay, well I am not sure what this post has to do with this particular topic. But, to comment on your post, I've never heard of Gunther Westfall.
  18. Donovan Harris and Daniel Paulus of Silsbee were the only local 3A players to make Texas Top 300 recruit list. The '6"1 180lb. 4.5 Harris and the '6"4 310lb 5.2 Paulus will be counted on this year to lead the Tigers back to the playoffs. Also, Silsbee's DE Josh Skinner ( '6"5 230lb ) and HJ's RB Trey Burrel ( '6"1 185lb ) were the only local 3A players to make the top junior list.
  19. Due to a rainout on Saturday, the championship was shortened to 36 holes. Here are the results: 1. Dawie Van Der Walt 67-70=137 $3,000 2. J.P. Landry 72-68=140 $1,800 3. Michael O'Brein 69-72=141 $1,200 T4. Oliver Bekker 69-73=142 $600 T4. Michael Arnaud 72-70=142 $600 T4. Lee Comeaux 72-70=142 $600 7. Everette Nini 70-73=143 $200 Congrats to Dawie on his first professional win.
  20. The question is will Jasper make the playoffs, and the answer is simply " No ".
  21. Leaders after the first round: 1. Van Der Walt 67 T2. Bekker 69 T2. O'Brein 69 4. Nini 70 6 other players at 72
  22. The two Lamar Ping All Americans will be teeing it up this weekend at the 40th Annual Silsbee Men's Golf Association Invitational. Lamar fans come on out and support these two great players as they knock it around Silsbee Country Club for their first paycheck. If anyone is interested in coming out, you can contact me at 679-7069, and I can give you the information needed. Mike Sanchez, President Silsbee MGA
  23. Actually, I won't be suprised to see WOS, Silsbee, and Kirbyville finish district tied with 6-1 records.
  24. Hey Kerry, why do you think the magazine did a poor job with the rankings? What teams in paticular? What classifications?
  25. The Houston Sterling-Silsbee game is going to be interesting. I say that after what happened last year. The Tigers totally dominated Sterling last year, winning 56-32, but it wasn't even that close. Silsbee was ahead going into the fourth 56-12, gave up 3 tds late with our scrubs in. The very next week, Sterling put a whooping on Beaumont Central, winning something like 50-28, not real sure on the score though. It will be interesting to see what Sterling team shows up.
