  1. Yeah! Baby needs a new pair of shoes!!!
  2. See, I thought I was correct on that. I just couldn't remember who they beat but I knew it was around 100 points. Actually 107!
  3. Silsbee will not score 100 in this game, trust me on that one. Silsbee takes this one, 79-60.
  4. Nothing but pure jealousy!!!! Teams like Silsbee, HJ, Ozen and Kountze that have had a great basketball tradition are always ridiculed for some of the scores that they put up. It is ridiculous. GET OVER IT!!!!!! I totally agree, Lazeek. But then why does Bullets question us? Isn't he HJ?
  5. Good question, Jay. I have seen far worse scores in my day. Matter of fact, I remember a HJ team that had their current assistant playing for them, beating someone by nearly 100 points one time. I have tried to explain to folks on this thread how this game went down, but they don't seem to understand. The point I am trying to make is that everyone at one time or another has games like this. If they were there, they probably wouldn't have any questions.
  6. Am I the only one that wants to know how we get 2 mill. deficit and then start worrying about how to cut? The whole thing is a mess and yes it is going to be ugly. My problem is how did it get this way. Who wasn't on watch when they were supposed to be. I know it isn't as easy as this but it just seems as though you would see it coming. Those are very good questions, td. Questions which you guys deserve answers to.
  7. would you want your varsity team playing a jv team because you know you cant compete with their varsity? wow you just dont listen...i said play up for more competition to get your kids ready for the next level i never said play down your just arguing for argument sake. and your absolutely right silsbees jv would beat both of those teams. i think westrbooks freshmen could give hf a game. on a side note i really would like to see silsbee and st thomas jv play each other it would be a great game im going back to what you originally said... i always agree to play up.. but i dont know of any varsity team that would agree to play a jv team... it just wouldnt be right... what if they lost... it would be way more embarassing than losing to a way better varsity team I was personally involved with a varsity team playing a JV. Back in 1980, I was on Silsbee's JV and Spurger varsity needed a game for their homecoming(Spurger doesn't play football, therefore they have their homecoming in basketball) We agreed to play them and well, to make a long story short, we killed them, 122-35. I will never forget that game for many reasons.
  8. But Lazeek, I have all night!! ;D Go to bed you are old!!!!! ;D ;D ;D I have to wait a little longer to empty my bladder. Otherwise I have to wear Depends to bed.
  9. But Lazeek, I have all night!! ;D
  10. And then I get this from the MIGHTY silsbee ex. So apparently you're account wasn't very accurate. My account is accurate, I broadcasted the game and have the stats. Silsbee shot a few three's in the third, nothing in the fourth. As I said before, no three's late in the game.
  11. That was not the case, UKCats. Silsbee pressed to start the third quarter but by mid quarter, called it off. Silsbee did most of their scoring in the fourth quarter on BC mistakes, mostly layups and offensive rebound putbacks. The Tigers killed the Cards on the boards. UKCats, maybe you should go back to the first page of this thread and read it. I have quoted your first post and my reply to it. I think I explained how this game went down.
  12. HJ beat Bc 109 to 40 last year don't throw stones when you live in glass house Im not from HJ so what glass house am I living in? What you think because I said something about Silsbee being a poor sport that I must be from HJ or do you just not understand the meaning of the quote you're throwin around. And second of all I would never tell a kid to quit or to pass up on a layup, but I would have them quit shooting three's and look for the open layup. You can also use these types of games as an opportunity to work on some things. Have you ever seen a team need to slow the pace of a game down to protect a small lead in the closing minutes. Silsbee could have worked the ball around a little bit. BC may have played bad, but I am sure they didn't just stand in the circle at half court and leave the goal ungaurded. There are other options. silsbee scored the majority of its points in the second half off bridge city missed shots and turnovers... they did what they were taught get the ball out and go thats the style thats has always worked for silsbee run and gun, and when they got it off a dead ball they did run somethings offfensivly they just happen to score everytime they did and BC couldnt answer.... only a couple of threes in second half were even being gaurded by BC are you saying that kids should pass up the opportunity to shoot a wide open 3 in a game situation just because they are ahead by a lot? do NBA teams pass up shots ever?!?! i saw the suns get blown out the other night the team they were playing never slowed down never quit trying to score... Well first of all I wouldn't compare high school basketball to professional basketball at any angle. Professional basketball is a disgrace to the sport and if you actually sat and watched an entire game of that 3pt line to 3pt line race then it already says so much. Second of all, you're dang right I would tell a kid to pass up on a wide open three in a game situation. Would you want your kid shooting a wide open three if you were down 2 with 20 seconds left in regulation??? There are situations where passing up on open 3's is okay and up 50 is one of those situations. Absolutely i would let him shoot it.... he cant make what he doesnt shoot... and thats a dumb question if he's wide open yea he'll shoot it he'd be crazy not too... why does it matter much you are up when shooting threes?? its not like they were showboating they just took WIDE OPEN SHOTS there's nothing wrong with that.... Which is why you're in the stands while others of us are on the floor. Cause you just don't get it. Next year you'll find a new band wagon to ride, buy yourself a new hat and shirt, and cheer for another 100 point team. That is why you feel the way you do, band wagon riders don't understand what it's like to lose because when things get bad they just find someone else to cheer for. First, let me say that Silsbee was not shooting three's late in the game. As for this last comment you have made UKCats, it is way off base. I know for a fact #10gwh was a past player and has ties to the Silsbee team. He is no way shape or form a bandwaggoner. No your facts before you make any accusations.
  13. Well, if you agree that it wouldn't be worth adding the cost in this situation, you must agree it doesn't make much sense for a district in financial turmoil to keep it, either. There are some good things that are going to get lost in the shuffle and maybe later, when the district has an extra $2,000,000 in their pocket, they can bring it back, but overall, getting rid of the program is needed right now. Coop, they're going in the right direction here, like it or not. They can't keep spending money on things that can be cut back a bit. People have argued it's only $16,000 per year they're saving, but that's a good chunk of change, and they are going to have to chip away at the massive deficit. I don't think there's a $2,000,000 worthless program that they can cut to get back on track, but there are a lot of little things they can do to save money, and this is one of them. GoStangs, you are rapidly becoming one of my favorite WOS fans. Another sensible and well directed post. I totally agree, they have to start somewhere. Like you said, there is no 2 million dollar program that they can cut to get them back in the black. They have to chip away at it. Another thing, the state is expects a school district to cut costs when they are working in a deficit. They are watching. Every school district that I know of would consider this transportation program a luxury, not a necessity. Anyone trying to balance a budget always looks to cut a luxury first.
  14. Some people aren't too bright are they!!!!!!! So true. I am beginning to wonder what our local school systems have become. :
  15. Please, only post your pickems on this thread.
  16. Finally, someone from WOS makes a sensible statement regarding this issue. I was really beginning to wonder if there was any realistic folks over there. The fact is, if the school district doesn't start cutting some costs, there will be no school for you Stang football fans to cheer for.
  17. Final A&M Corpus Christi 89 Lamar 71 Lamar's 20 game homecourt win streak ends.
  18. Let me help clarify by using your picks, Baby. You have chosen all the favorites( teams that have the -points by their name). This simply means that not only do they have to win the game, these teams have to win by more than the margin of points that is given. For instance, Silsbee is favored over Orangefield by 16 points. That means in order for you to get that game right, Silsbee will have to win by 17 points or more. If you think Silsbee will win but not by more than 16 points, then you should choose Orangefield. Do you understand that? A good example of picking a team to lose but still covering the point spread would be last Tuesday's game of Ozen and PNG. Ozen won the game, but did not cover their 21 point spread, they only beat PNG by 16.
  19. Yes, you would lose that game. All pushes(ties) result in an incorrect pick. In your case Robert, if you were to choose Central, they would need to win by 6 to cover the 5 point spread. Also, everyone please make your picks in bold or just list them by themselves.
  20. No. You use the point spreads that I have gotten off of HoopInsider's picks.
  21. Just make sure you include all 10 of them next time. right i fixed it lol... whatd i get the loses on which games, i never got a chance to check up on it The thread is still up. And you still only picked 9 games even after you corrected it.
  22. Here are Friday night's pickems: Ozen (-11) @ LCM Central (-5) @ PNG Lumberton @ Nederland (-21) Vidor @ Livingston (-16) WOS (-19) @ Bridge City Hardin-Jeff (-35) @ Hamshire-Fannett Silsbee (-16) @ Orangefield Hardin @ Anahuac (-40) Buna @ Kountze (-29) Deweyville @ East Chambers (-6) Remember to consider the point spreads when you make your picks.
  23. Just make sure you include all 10 of them next time.
  24. They don't bus over there either. I was not intending that statement as a result of the busing, but as a result of the taks issue! I GAURANTEE you can't find five school districts in the entire state that have this requirement! I don't think you can find one. Someone looked into it and unless they are wrong it's unconstitutional. Unconstitutional to set school policy? I'm only passing along information. That was the opinion. We didn't just get the information from a guy off the street either. Some policies are made by people that are in higher positions than the school board. TD, I've googled all morning and cannot find anywhere that states anything unconstitutional about TAKS testing and UIL competition. I know people think this is a non-issue, but why would the board bring this up if not serious? Are they that ignorant to know it would add insult to injury after the buss ordeal? I wanted to give some clarification about the TAKS testing issue and the Constitution...I'm Aggies wife and was the sponsor of an extracurricular group that had academic restrictions that must be met prior to being accepted in to the group. In our national organization, there were a couple of cases that reached the Supreme Court relating to this subject. In one case, a student had not been selected to be in Honor Society because he had a questionable conduct record throughout high school. The attorneys for the student held the position that the student was academically qualified and therefore had a right to be a part of the group. The court found in favor of the district saying that exclusion from an extra-curricular activity was not a violation of the student's civil rights. In a similar case, a student was dismissed from the organization due to an inability to maintain academic standards held by the national and/or local constitution and bylaws of the organization. The courts again ruled in favor of the district in this case stating that belonging to an extracurricular activity is a choice and had no bearing on the public funded education of the student, and although it was a privilege to hold a part in such activities, it was not an "unalienable (constitutional/God given) right" to be excluded from such an organization, nor was it an entitlement. Summing up, I would think that athletics is also considered an extracurricular activity. It is not a required part of the curriculum. State education code and graduation standards do mandate a certain number of p.e. credits. It's just that some students choose to fulfill that part of their requirement by the choice to par ticpate in an athletic (or band, or cheerleader, or drill team) organization. I cannot speak on the validity of local policies put into effect related to TAKS or any other district or state requirements. I just wanted to comment that the courts had ruled that not being a part or excluded from of an extracurricular activity was not a violation of a student's Constitutional, civil, or unalienable rights or entitlements. I'm no legal expert of course, just a lowly teacher passing on what I hope is helpful.
  25. That was not the case, UKCats. Silsbee pressed to start the third quarter but by mid quarter, called it off. Silsbee did most of their scoring in the fourth quarter on BC mistakes, mostly layups and offensive rebound putbacks. The Tigers killed the Cards on the boards.
