  1. No, it's not over. I would have to put Silsbee's McDonalds All-American Darryl " Boogaloo " McArthur on that top ten player list. After finishing his senior season he was in the top 20 all time scoring leaders in the state, all classification, with over 2500 points.
  2. I won't go as far as saying the Tigers are going to be great, but they will be a good team. The Tigers lost some key players to allow them to be a great team but they will contend for the district title with what they have coming back.
  3. Being that I am an old Silsbee Tiger, I have to pull for our old friends the Jasper Bulldogs. But as for a prediction, I say the Cards win in 3.
  4. West Brook Central Ozen Name: Carrol Thomas High Mascot: CT All-Stars
  5. I was curious as to what the Lumberton's fans favorite playoff stadium is? I'm sorry, I just had to go there. lol Okay, back to your regular programming.
  6. You are right PNG Proud, I had forgotten about those last 2 years in 4A( going 1-19 would make you tend to want to forget ). I do know that we have added more seating since then with the horseshoe part added 2 years ago. A couple of other cosmetic changes have been added since we last played ya'll there.
  7. I am all for having faith in your team and backing them 100%, but let's get real here. Last year's Jasper team was the worst Jasper team that I have ever seen, I have seen quite a few. One year is not going to do it. I'll give Brooks 2 to 3 years to get that program back up where it belongs. The question is, would you bet a substantial amount of money on the Dawgs winning district this year? If so, where can I reach you? I would like some of that action, please.
  8. Great news for the PNG fans. Looking forward to seeing the new and improved Reservation. I hope PNG and Silsbee can keep this home and home series going till then. The PNG fans will get to see our new Tiger Stadium next year for the first time. I find our stadium quite unique.
  9. Maybe you need to read that article more carefully. That article was written back in 1979, part of Bob West's old archives. The rule has changed since then, you are now allowed to attend summer camps. I don't think Perkins was even born yet in 1979. lol
  10. Now the state 110 meter hurdle champion. Congrats Donavan. Big and very fast with great hands, that's what I like in a reciever.
  11. Donavan Harris of Silsbee was a very good reciever last year for the Tigers. Look for him to have a better year this year if he's not called on to play quarterback. At '6 "2, 185 with sprinter speed( regional champion in the 110 meter hurdles ), he'll get some looks from some Div. I schools for sure.
  12. I have every issue dating back to 1971, got to keep my streak going.
  13. Did I miss something here? I didn't see any steriod talk in this thread.
  14. Getting Brooks back will definetly help the Dawgs but to say they will win the district is quite a stretch. Last years Jasper team had to be the worst Jasper team I have ever seen in all my years of watching Silsbee-Jasper games, which go back to 1970. Silsbee won last years game 35-0 and they only played 2 1/2 quarters due to bad weather. Silsbee could have scored 60 on the Bulldogs that night. That had to be the slowest, most unagressive Jasper team that I have ever seen. I know they were young, very young indeed when you have 9 freshman on the varsity and 4 of those start and you are the second largest school in the district. But, where was the upperclassman last year? You say you have a bunch of starters coming back and that is a good thing. But if they aren't any better than they were last year, you better get some different starters. The players that Jasper put on the field last year in the Silsbee game I really felt sorry for them. It was quite obvious that they were outmanned from the beginning and that's just so suprising considering it's a Jasper football team. Never, ever had I seen them so low. I am hoping Brooks can get the Dawgs turned back around and get that program back up. Like I have said before, it's just not right in the football world with Jasper at the bottom. Good luck Dawgs.
  15. According to WOS87's map, the 3A-D1 local district would be Silsbee, Jasper, Lumberton, LCM, Barbers Hill, Huffman, and Splendora. That would put Jasper, Barbers Hill, and Huffman traveling 2 hours for a district game. What's fair about that? I'm sorry, but trying to get equal enrollment schools to face each other in district and the playoffs is impossible without stretching the districts out too broad. I'll be suprised if the super's pass this.
  16. Boxscore: Silsbee 5 8 0 Jasper 3 8 2
  17. I don't think it's a question of if fans would travel, but it's a question if school districts could afford all the extra travel. Case in point, Bronco1 has Chester with an enrollment of 60, traveling 120 miles to Sabine Pass, enrollment 100, for just a district game. Ya'll say the fans will not mind but they don't determine the schools budget. Traveling these kind of distances for playoff games is acceptable, but not for district games. Another case is a school out in West Texas who for the last 20 years has decided to stay 5A when their enrollment is actually 3A. They did this based solely on finances because the nearest 3A district to them was 200 miles. They just couldn't afford it. Like I said in my previous post, I am all for getting an even playing field, but I think it will be a logistical and financial nightmare for some schools. You guys are looking at local schools and the prospects of the new districts they would be in, and for the most part, they are fair. But you have to consider statewide, where there are areas that are not as easy to adjust. I commend the UIL for trying to make things more fair, but I also know that the UIL doesn't care too much about a school's finances too.
  18. This new system may make the playing field more even( I'll believe it when I see it ), but it will be a scheduling and traveling nightmare. No one, and I mean no one, wants to travel more than 100 miles to play a district game. This will happen in this system. Some will have to travel 150 miles. 3A, 2A, and 1A school budgets just can't afford that. Making the playoffs is nice, but not all taxpayers want to fit the bill for their school just to make the playoffs.
  19. Silsbee will not miss the playoffs. I don't know if they will be first, second or third, but they will make the playoffs.
  20. Silsbee's bats took last week off, they'll be back after this rest. Tiger's win 8-3
  21. Easy pick for this one. Daniel Paulous of Silsbee. He's '6"4 320lb, getting lot's of looks from Big 12, Sec, and Big 10 schools.
  22. Hey Coop, my wife's picture was in the Beaumont Enterprise. She was high fiving a player after she crossed homeplate. Page 17A in Sunday's paper. Thank you for posting this story.
  23. The thread was asking what returning 3A qb's are going to be good. Thomas is 2A.
  24. The sophmore qb Hazelwood at Kirbyville is pretty good. His first year to start this year, didn't do too bad a job.
  25. Close, maybe. I'm thinking 9-4 Silsbee.
