  1. Silsbee defeated Orangefield 60-52
  2. If I'm not mistaken, I think this thread was asking the question of should atheletes be forced to participate in football off season even if it was a detriment to their other sport. I am off the agreement that conditioning is beneficial to all sports. But, there are some exceptions. Weight training for football is not beneficial for sports like golf and tennis. Those sports do need some weight training but not the kind you would do for football. There are student athletes that do play football and these sports, very few mind you, but there are some. I think an AD just has to take in consideration of every single athlete and do what's best for them personally. Yes, 98% of the high school football players will not play on the school's golf or tennis teams, but that remaining 2% shouldn't have to do everything the football players are doing if it is going to take away from their other sport. In Texas, football rules and it should be that way, definetly. But, I also admire a school that has a well rounded sports program and not one that most of the time puts all their eggs in one basket.
  3. Congrats Lady Bobcats on a great win.
  4. There's no better press box in the area than the one at Tiger Stadium in Silsbee.
  5. I heard Silsbee and Orangefield boys was moved to tomorrow at 7:30. Don't know about the girls game.
  6. Congrats to Silsbee, the only area school with both girls and boys basketball teams ranked in the top 20 this week.
  7. The Lady Tigers will beat the fictisous #1 ranked Bobcats by 9.
  8. Silsbee went 10-0 last year in district. The year before they went 9-1, losing to Coldspring.
  9. Hopefully the weather won't affect any of the games Tuesday. What do you think Coop?
  10. Brown from PAM is listed as one of the top 10 juniors in the nation, not just the state. Thomas isn't anywhere near those lists. With that said, I am not too impressed with Brown, he plays no defense. He will have to step it up in that department when he goes to college.
  11. Jasper hasn't defeated Silsbee in basketball in 100 years, or so it seems. No suprise about this 18 point win except maybe it could have been 25.
  12. Is this an area stadium poll, or state wide? I would think Galena Park would not classify as an area stadium.
  13. Any local top 30 player poll that does not include a single Silsbee player on the list, is quite simply a bogus poll. Terrance Jones and Shannon Robinson should be on this list at the very least. A couple of other Tigers could be on the list as well. But, it's just one man's opinion poll. I would rather see the Tigers ranked in the state team polls.
  14. The Silsbee boys were district track champions last year.
  15. So I take it that Silsbee had a bad night against WOS then. Fact is, some teams just match up better than others do. WOS had the inside players to match up with Silsbee's inside guys, HJ didn't have those against Silsbee. Silsbee did a great job defensively against Donahoe, where he went off on WOS. It's all about the match ups.
  16. I have no problem with West Hardin being #1. They are undefeated and ranked very high in their classification. It's just a local poll, not that big of a deal. I think we all know that WH would lose to HJ, WOS, Silsbee, EC, and Kountze.
  17. Look guys, from what I saw last night, HJ is not a great team, no #4 team for sure. They are a good team no doubt, but they are overrated in my book. They had no bench to speak of, Silsbee played 10 last night. They have no inside threat, the big guy is just not that good. Donahoe is very good but not good enough to carry this team deep in the playoffs. Silsbee showed that you can contain him and make the others try to beat you. I really don't see any of our distict teams doing well in the playoffs but I sure would like to be wrong on that.
  18. Looks like you need some too.
  19. Silsbee showed they are still a force to be reckoned with in this district. Great win Tigers! There were 4 things that stood out in this game: 1. Free throws, Silsbee made'em, HJ didn't, nuff said. 2. Ryan Donahoe was shut down. Silsbee put William Harper, the Tiger's all everything quarterback, on him and William shut him down. I think Ryan may have had 8 points, but not much more. 3. Big Ahmad Jones had an excellant game inside. He had a double-double and defended very well inside. The Tiger's all-state offensive lineman really used his big frame well down under. 4. The officiating was terrible. Both sides got their share of the bad calls and no calls. I will admit the rough style may have benefitted Silsbee's game more than HJ's. I wasn't too impressed with the Hawks. IMO, they are a bit overrated. I'm not sure they are deserving of a #4 ranking.
  20. The award is for the best offensive and defensive player. Mosely is hands down the best offensive player but the best defensive player is a little more competetive. Earl Thomas is a great player, but you cannot let his offensive numbers help decide on him being awarded the best defensive player. There are several players that had better defensive stats than Earl had.
  21. Neither team can beat Silsbee though.
  22. Definetly Cabo. You couldn't ask for much better. Great fishing, golf, and beaches. I am ready to go back.
  23. Yes, Jones is a senior. He's commited to Oklahoma St.
