C'mon bleed, no one is scared. There is no 3A team, particularly local, that Silsbee is afraid to play. In fact, by the strength of the Tiger's schedule, they're not afraid to play anyone in this area. They may lose the game, but definetly not scared. Yes, Orangefield did play us a couple of close games last year, but that last game that those two played against each other last year will be more indicative of what it will be like this year. I believe that score was 66-33 in favor of Silsbee. I knew you would not be scared coming from a fan. We do not play the games the kids do. It will be a big challenge to beat you guys this year. All I am saying is don't coun't your chickens because it sounds like you already have. See we can't afford to count our chickens we don't have any. ;D ;D ;D Buy the way this is not about "Silsbee" it is about people saying we have a weak schedule. I may be "just" a fan, but I think I have a pretty good perspective of the Silsbee basketball team since I am broadcasting their games. I have a little more insight to the players and coaches for Silsbee than what your common fan will have. I believe in this Tiger team. They are a special group and I believe they will go undefeated in district, nothing "chicken" about that. You are right, this thread is not about Silsbee, but you are the one making the comments about Silsbee and HJ being scared of Orangefield.

Gilbert trumps them all. -
There are many things more serious than sports that I would wish for, but to keep it sports related, I wish for a Silsbee state championship in basketball in March.

That same Central team that Silsbee blewout beat HJ so no I don't think the talent gap is closing... I think Silsbee has a very experienced, athletic, well coached, veteran ball club that would give alot of bigger schools a run for thier money THIS YEAR... Next year key parts will have graduated and they will still be good, but not as good as the bigger schools! I think the title of this thread was misleading in a sense. It should have been stated as to this area and not elude to the entire state. In this area, as for the big schools, only Ozen and Central have really done anything in the playoffs. Yet you have several small schools that have done some damage in the playoffs. Could those play with the big boys on a year in year out basis? Probably not, but I think it's closer now than it was before only because of the drop in quality of the big schools in this area and not the increase in quality of the small schools in this area. Short, as for Silsbee next year, we may not be as good next year, but we will have a good group back. We lost 3 key players from last year's state semi-finalist and returned 2 starters. Next year, we will return 3 starters and lose 4 key players in our 10 man rotation, two which are starters. With the shape of our JV, I look for Silsbee to only drop a smidgen from the level of this year's squad.

WTF? Central in BC Classic!?
AggiesAreWe replied to shorttexas1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I couldn't agree more, short. Central should win this but they probably shouldn't be in the tourney to begin with. I wonder why they didn't play in the James Gamble Classic or the Gulf Coast Classic? -
Thanks for that info. Sorry to hear about the damage. That is a very nice gym and was looking forward to doing some broadcasting at that tourney from the Field House. Looks like I'll have to alter my plans some.

I don't have a problem with any of these selections. But, I will point out that Jeremy Johnson was the district MVP over Hypolite. With Hypolite being a senior and his team beating Silsbee and advancing farther in the playoffs, it is understandable that he is up for the award. Congrats to all and good luck.

That '98 team was special, one of the best teams to come out of Silsbee and Southeast Texas. They were ranked #1 all year and also was ranked in the top 25 nationaly. Short, you are wrong about what team they lost to in the first round. They lost to Tyler Chapel Hill, 68-65. They did blowout Cleveland twice that year. Silsbee was 31-0 entering that playoff game, then one and done. Truely one of our most dissappointing losses in Silsbee basketball history. I went on to the state tourney that year (like I always do) and all 4 teams in the tournament Silsbee would have handled. It was a shame.

Is the competition gym the new, bigger gym that's at the south end of the football stadium? Is the auxiliary gym the old gym where Silsbee played their first round playoff game last year?

It was a good thing for Jesuit and Wheatley that my Silsbee Tigers weren't in this tourney. ;D OK AAW...........everyone knows that Silsbee is good, but saying that they could have competed with two top 5 teams in the state is speculation at best. Here is some more speculation.....If you can't beat Ozen that you can't beat Strake or Wheatley. Lazeek, I guess you missed that little I put at the end of my post. I know what my Tigers' limits are; THE SKY!!!! THE SKY!!!! THE SKY!!!! ;) ;) ;D

I did not say Silsbee could not beat WB and/or Memorial... But I think WB would win and maybe Memorial right now... Both teams are playing well now and Brook is playing way better since getting the football boys. Again, Silsbee has a great team this year but that doesn't change the fact that the talent gap is enormous between 3A and 5A... Like I have said before, Silsbee will not play against any McDonalds All Americans or any of the top 100 kids in the nation in 3A... But those kids are there in the 5A and 4A programs! I know you didn't say the Tigers couldn't win, but you are picking West Brook to win and PAM would win if them and the Tigers were to play. I disagree with those picks, I think Silsbee is better, this year. I watched WB at the YMBL with their football players, I still think Silsbee takes them. We will see on Jan. 2 when the Tigers come visit the Bruins. Maybe Silsbee and PAM can schedule a warmup game at the end of district play, providing Memorial has the luxury to do so.

Silsbee has been playing high quality basketball long before they dropped down to 3A 5 years ago. The Tigers have a very good tradition on the court, many playoff appearances and championships(just not the state kind, yet ) I too agree that Silsbee could not compete on a regular basis to the top 5A schools and some of the 4A's. This year, Silsbee has a very good team, one that I think will make it back to Austin and play for the state championship. We are not going to have teams every year like this one, but Silsbee has a very well established program and with the fact that we are 3A, I believe the Tigers will compete on the state level for many years to come. Short, I have seen West Brook and Memorial play this year along with seeing my Tigers several times. Silsbee will beat WB at the Brook and would beat the Titans if they were on the schedule. Silsbee is the better team in regards to those schools.

Well, since CC Moody is a Corpus Christie school and this is a Southeast Texas site, it shouldn't be that suprising that not too many folks knows the ends and outs of that school. Go to our state site, Txhssports.com. You might get quicker responses to your questions over there.
