  1. Both first teams ended in a 13-13 tie, Silsbee missed an extra point on one of their tds, while Lumberton was held to two fg's and a td. Silsbee did get to the Raider 10 on another drive but then threw an interception. Lumberton never turned the ball over and never gave up a sack, I was impressed. Both teams second team played the most of the last quarter (3rd) with Lumberton scoring with just a few seconds left. Silsbee needs work on their pass rush and their pass defense, paticularly passes in the flat. Silsbee ran the ball very well against the Raiders, but that was no suprise. Lumberton showed alot of moxy, they are showing the right attitude on the field. As for the question about the numbers, I was a little suprised myself. I actually counted the number of players out there. Silsbee had 40 players suited up for varsity, Lumberton had 32.
  2. I realize that Central and Hebert have to play each other because they are in the same district, but the question is, if West Brook has a problem with having to play Hebert at their home stadium all the time, then why schedule them? I know, I know, it's the Beaumont bowl series, but are they being forced to play them, or can Coach Stump schedule someone else if he chose to? Actually, I can see the validity in West Brook-Hebert playing at Cardinal Stadium, just a non-district game. But making Central play at Hebert every year for a district game is not right. Central should be pissed.
  3. If the coaches decide to keep the first teams on the field the majority of the scrimmage, which I heard they are since everyone else is playing for real this week, then Lumberton will not score on the Tigers. I predict at least a 3 td win for Silsbee.
  4. Yes it was the game that the Tigers won 48-44. The ironic thing about it is, Silsbee needed everything McGuire did just to get out of there with a win because we couldn't stop Nederland's passing attack. That qb shreaded Silsbee's defense that night. But, about the irony, Silsbee lost McGuire to a broken leg in the last game of the regular season and had to face Nederland in the 1st round of the playoffs, we're doomed, right? Not exactly. The Tiger coaches decided to change their defensive scheme against Nederland and instead of playing zone they went man to man and blitzed just about every down, sacking the qb 10 times that night. Silsbee rolled to a 34-7 playoff win. By the way, McGuire's backup rushed for 193 yards that night.
  5. Jasper and Barbers Hill do not belong in the top 10. Silsbee does.
  6. I had the pleasure of seeing Jay McGuire of Silsbee rush for 454 yards and 6 tds against Nederland in '93. He had right at 600 all purpose yards for the game. Simply incredible.
  7. Regarding the Plano-John Tyler game, it was Plano that got all those on side kicks in a row, but after finally taking the lead with just a few seconds left, Plano decided to just kick it deep to John Tyler and that's when the John Tyler player returned the kickoff for a touchdown to win the game.
  8. Personally, I think they should put Yosemittee Sam on their helmets. They play like looney toons anyway.
  9. Silsbee was dominate for what little time they were out there. Scrimmage was maybe 20 minutes old when it was canceled. Anahuac was simply no match for the Tigers. Wish they could have played longer, get some 2nd team work in. Silsbee scrimmages Lumberton next Thursday. Tigers owe the raiders some payback.
  10. Correct. There was only one td and it was Silsbee's.
  11. Just got back from the Silsbee-Nederland scrimmage. The only score was from Silsbee's 2nd team offense against Nederland's 2nd team defense. Nederland did have a long pass that appeared to be a td but it was ruled out of bounds. Both offenses were a little off. Both defenses look promising, particularly Nederland's. Score: Silsbee 7 Nederland 0
  12. Lumberton Football..... isn't that an oxymoron???
  13. Silsbee-WOS, it's Silsbee's homecoming.
  14. For Silsbee, I would have to say it is a tie between James Hunter and William Graham. Both were all state in high school, all conference and all-american in college, and they both played 8 seasons in the NFL for the Detriot Lions.
  15. LCM West Brook La Marque Brenham Central Dayton Jasper Bridge City Orangefield Hardin-Jefferson Cleveland Splendora Huffman Coldspring Hardin Shepherd Warren Houston Kinkiad Groveton Deweyville Kountze Evadale Hull-Daisetta Barbers Hill
  16. If we are talking about high scoring games and not blowouts, then Silsbee's playoff loss to Palestine last year would be a good one to mention. Score was 63-49.
  17. Two hits come to my mind. First, the hit of the year according to ESPN, when Texas Aggie LB Quinton Coryatt leveled a TCU receiver coming over the middle on ESPN's Thursday night game in '86. The other was Silsbee LB Gary McGuire cloths lining a receiver for Nederland in a scrimmage in '82. Both players were out cold for several minutes. Vicious, vicious.
  18. Cleveland has been 3A for 10 years or more, don't know the exact years though.
  19. Actually, I think this is all just a waste of time, it's just a scrimmage. Besides, that's just what one side will claim if they lose( if there is a such thing as a loser in a scrimmage ) is that it was just a scrimmage, no real test of what either team really is. Particullarly if this is the first scrimmage. Anyway, I'll say that the Mustangs will look the better of the two, but I don't know who will score more or wins or whatever.
  20. Former Tiger William Morrisey, all-state and Willie Ray Smith winner, has taken a leave of absence from the Aggie football team. Siting personal reasons, Morrisey has left indefinetly. As to when or if he comes back this year or if ever, remains to be seen. Let's hope William can get things taken care of and get back to playing ball.
  21. Silsbee's homecoming game is the one I want to see. Their opponent: WOS
  22. David Frye's shot in the Astrodome has to be it. It was in the all-star game but it wasn't centerfield. He hit it over the left center field wall on to the concourse behind the mezzanine seats. The scoreboard operator posted it at an estimated 475 ft. To do it in the place where homers die into flyballs was pretty impressive.
  23. I did not include soccer because not all of our district foes play soccer. The soccer districts locally have a mixture of 4A, 3A, and 2A. Only 5A has its own district. With that said, I stand corrected in that Silsbee did not qualify for the playoffs in every sport.
