First, I want to say it was an honor and a pleasure to be able to broadcast Coach Boutte's last game at Ozen. Andre is a HOF coach that will be sorely missed there at Ozen. Good luck to you Coach Boutte, may you succeed in your new job as you have your whole coaching career. Also, I would like to thank HoopInsider Cooper on his help with the broadcast last night. Chad's insight into the Boutte situation was very beneficial to our pregame show and his information and knowledge on the subject was excellant and very much appreciated. Thanks again Chad for all your help and I look forward to hooking up with you again in a future broadcast.

Robert, I think it would be in the best interest of Central if this game got canceled. I've seen Hightower this year, they would beat my Silsbee Tigers by 30 or more.
-
I predicted a 20 point win for the Tigers but I am not that suprised that Silsbee won it by 44. Jasper really isn't very good. I saw them at the Big Sandy tourney and really wasn't impressed. Goodrich handled them pretty well and Big Sandy also beat them. They may get in the playoffs from that 18-3A district, but I look for Center, Rusk, and Lufkin Hudson to be the playoff teams from that district. Silsbee looks to be back on track.

This is so right. When you make financial cuts, convenience usually is the first to go. -
That's right, we will bring you what very well could be Coach Andre Boutte's last basketball game at Ozen when the Panthers play host to the Nederland Bulldogs to kickoff 20-4A district play. This should be a very good game and now with the news of Boutte leaving for PAISD, it will add that much more excitement to the game. Game time should be around 7:30, broadcast time will be around 7:20. Mike Sanchez, Setxsports.com broadcaster

Thank you, sir. Tigervoice and I laugh that we probably have at least 50 years more in combined age over our sites other broadcast teams. Bunch of young punks. ;D Who you calling young punks.....you old fossil..... That was just a jab at my fellow broadcasters for this site. Are you going to broadcast the Silsbee vs. Jasper game.......... No. Jasper has no internet connection in their gym and I cannot do the game by cell phone because our producer will not be in studio tonight, previous engagement. It looks like I'll be doing the Nederland-Ozen game. Ozen has internet.

go back to last year the beginning of the year it all sounds the same just reversed..HJ will get it's props(if it happens)....but you certainly don't expect Silsbee to concede at least till after Christmas..lol Props were given to Silsbee last year.........although none were received the season prior as HJ brought home the gold. Hold on Lazeek. I, along with some other Silsbee fans gave props to HJ for winning the gold 2 years ago. Even though I thought the Tigers should have won that regional final, I said it and will say it again, the better team won.

I don't think that you used the $35,000 figure. That came from The school board president himself in a meeting. Have you looked at the number of employees that we have compared to other 3A district or where else we might cut the budget. I agree it needs to be cut. But if you lose 2 kids because of this you have broken even. I'm just curious as to why you think they made the right choice. Tell me what facts that you have looked into that makes this the right choice. Do you think we will lose any kids? I totally believe that we should continue the transportation for the students if possible but NOT at the expense of cutting jobs!!!! Now there's a voice of reason. Good one Venom33. -
If I am not mistaken, isn't it the rule that the clock has to be .03 in order for a player to even get a shot off? I would think that the game would go to overtime, no foul.

WO-C CISD to revisit transportation issue
AggiesAreWe replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
My guess, yeah they'll revisit the issue, but the vote will stay the same. Their hands are tied, they are being forced to cut costs, it's just that simple. The transportation is a luxury, one that no other school district is doing anymore, and with the shape of what WOS is in, it was a necessary move to cut that service. I believe that WOS will get through this okay. It is a shame that it had to be cut, but when cutting costs, like many are having to do these days, you have to do what's necessary. -

WO-C CISD made wise choice with after hours transportation The Orange Leader By The Orange Leader In efforts to save money, the West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District recently made the right decision to eliminate after hours school bus transportation for student athletes. In a 6-1 vote, trustees voted to stop providing school funded transportation for students after practices and games. The school board reports it will save approximately $25,866.96 a year. Students will still be transported to and from activities on buses yet after the activity is over, buses will only deliver students back to campus. This was a wise, tough decision for the board to make. The economy is not what it was once and neither is WO-C CISD. The service of bringing students home after practice or an activity began many years ago at the district when West Orange-Stark was a 4A or 5A school. Today, enrollment figures and funding are both dropping within the district. The Mustangs now operate in the 3A ranks and WO-C CISD was the only district within Orange County to provide the service. By cutting the after hours bus transportation, trustees kept their focus on education first and extra-curricular activities second. The after hours transportation was a luxary WO-C CISD can no longer afford. It’s better to trim bus rides than teaching staff or educational programs. Dr. O. Taylor Collins, WO-C CISD superintendent, also left open the possibility the board could review the after hours transportation at a later date. However, it is unfortunatte the board did not gather input from WO-S Athletic Director Dan Hooks before the meeting. We all want WOC CISD athletics to strive for excellence and to continue the long-standing tradition of winning the Mustangs have garnered over the years. But the board’s primary focus should be in the classroom -

One thing that you might want to know is that the economically disadvantaged number is Silsbee is higher that advertised as well in other districts I'm sure. The number of economically disadvantaged in the WOS is probably pretty accurate. The way this number is derived is by the number of students that take advantage of free and reduced lunches. At WOS there is no distinction between a free and reduced and a full fare paying student. At Silsbee there are several lines in which to purchase lunch and the free and reduced in limited, thereby creating a stigma for some students. These students will go without before being designated free and reduced. Now the Silsbee administration is currently seeking a plan to allow the free and reduced students to freely choose what line they purchase out of which will not create such stigma. The problem is with the state monitoring what they can and cannot have. Along the lines of cutting transportation cost for after school extra curricular activities, I have to agree that the school districts sole purpose is to educate kids! But, I also know that if it were not for athletics some students would get involved in the wrong things after school.....and YES, athletics is the driving force for some students to succeed in school (LIKE IT OR NOT)! This is not taught by their teachers and coaches nor is it dealt down by the administration of school districts..... It is a fact of life. This comes from years of repression and single parent families trying to make it. Some of these students do not see the long-term effects of no or little education and simply feel that they cannot make it (unless they can be a STAR ATHLETE)..... I am making no excuses, just stating what you will learn if you talk to these students and really get behind their thoughts. Now, the state has been changing school districts financial accountability, and one of the changes has been that 65% of the money that is spent in the district must to directly to the classroom to educate kids. That gives the district only 35% to spend of transportation, athletics, maintenance etc. The district has no choice but to cuts cost outside the classroom where they can. I agree that the district needs to be fiscally responsible to the taxpayers, but we have to do what is right for student body as a whole. I do know that there are several students in Silsbee that have to get a ride with friends, relatives and I do know that we have coaches that take students home from time to time. The way I see it this decision should be made by the number of students that take advantage of the service and the number that would otherwise not participate! One thing to BucFan, apparently you are not economically disadvantaged nor do you understand the stressors in these family's lives. When times are tough for the middle and upper income class, they are far more stressful for the lower income families. I only mention this b/c you made mention that your kids are involved in academic extra curricular and at no time have you expected transportation for these events. Both of my kids participate in both athletic and academic events and I do not expect transportation either, but I do know that there are several VERY BRIGHT students in our district that would help our academic UIL teams, but they cannot participate because they have no means of transportation unless they catch the bus!!!!! So please know that not everyone is as fortunate as you or I! Awesome post, Silsbee88. Coming from you, I know the truth has been spoken. Thank you for your post. -
If Hanna can get Honorable Mention(which he should), then Grogan should have also.

This area?? I take it you mean for class 4A. You know, there are other teams locally that make it past the first round of regionals. -

Explain to me how WOS is so different than Silsbee, Newton and other school districts in regards to this problem. These other school districts have single parent homes. These other school districts are experiencing tough times through the bad economy. How is this apples and oranges?
