  1. Do yall think he was the best in the state from his class? No. I'll take the kid from North Crowley over him any day. BTW, can't wait for your report Chad.
  2. I attended the Jasper/Nederland scrimmage and came away with only two thoughts. First, I ruined my favorite Skecher sandals, and second, both Bulldogs ruined the Nederland football field. That field will never recover for the rest of the season. I was totally shocked that they played on it. It was nothing but a mud hole by halftime. I walked the sideline the whole game and went out on the field at half and sunk to my ankles. This may very well been a ploy to get that turf field now. BTW, Jasper looks to be at midseason form. Hope they don't peak too early.
  3. Either that, or folks around you are doing a whole lot wrong. Lesser of two evils, you might say.
  4. I think Gasilla, who is a WOS fan, would disagree with that assessment.
  5. I can totally see your point if you're talking about 5A teams that actually have platoon substitutions, but we both follow 3A schools and neither of them have the luxury of having a 2nd "team", they have 2nd string players that rotate in with the first string players. Not very often do you see more than 2 or 3 second teamers out there with the rest of the starters. The whole, "they scored on our "B" team" thing is usually more like they scored while we had a couple of 2nd string players on the field. Anyway, it's a good little debate that's beginning to get old. I just think these scrimmages mean way more than some want to admit. It's just to easy to say, "it was JUST a scrimmage". Now, I do not see why on earth a coaching staff would scout a scrimmage. Seems like a waste of man power, but I bet that, if Dayton did scout Lumberton. It had more to do with a potential match up in the playoffs than it did winning their scrimmage. I am not suggesting that scrimmages are meaningless. But, scrimmages aren't meaningful enough to get a "win" or "loss" tag attached to it. As for this theory only applying to 5A schools, I beg to differ. Silsbee has a 2nd team offense and defense with maybe just a couple of 2 way players in the mix. I went to Newton's scrimmage last Saturday against Center, and they ran 2nd team offense and defense. Newton is 2A, Center 3A and not a big 3A at that. In this scrimmage Newton 1st team tied Center's 1st team 1-1, but Center's 2nd teamers out scored Newton's 2-1. Do I think Center has a better team because they "won" this scrimmage? Absolutely not.
  6. Okay, I just found my Game of the Week broadcast for that particular week. ;D
  7. Never in my 44 years have I seen a scrimmage result recorded in a team's win-loss column. : No --we are scrimmaging in the forum. We need to get our fingers ready for 10-14 weeks of typing. Aggies--i agree with you totally on the official records. I was just kidding by referring to the area outside the locker room frequented by parents and other experts who are ready to greet the coaches and share their opinions about whats they have observed. To many--the whole season is judged by what they saw in the first scrimmage. Myself, I believe the scrimmage is a good indication to see what areas a team may be lacking in depth. But believe me--some coaches may feel the pressure of trying to make a good impression. Totally agree with this comment.
  8. Never in my 44 years have I seen a scrimmage result recorded in a team's win-loss column. :
  9. In that case no it doesn't matter, my point is the first half at least come this sat. will be about as real as it gets without it counting on your record. We will all know who the better team is Dayton or Lumberton in 2008 after the first half Sat. As a fan I want to know and so does everyone else. I can reasonably agree with that comment. But, it has no bearing on who was the better team when these two teams met last year in a real game.
  10. Like I said, the question wasn't about someone giving more effort than the other. But for someone to tell me that team A "lost" a scrimmage to team B when team A's 1st team out scores team B's 1st team, let's say, 5-1 in dominating fashion, but team B's second and third teams outscore team A's second and third teams 6-1, that's crazy. Scrimmages are about how you perform, not the score.
  11. So I guess its ok for HF to scout Lumberton saturday morning? It's the same freakn'thing! There's a lot of what if's but lets say they meet in the playoffs and the Dayton coaches didn't scout them early on in the season...lot's of variables but its ok if you wanna'play it down to a scrimmage. Just how do you "play it down to a scrimmage" when the fact remains, it is a scrimmage? Don't you know that?
  12. I am not debating the fact that you should practice hard or play hard in these scrimmages. You should always do that. I agree, it builds champions. But my point is the fact that some fans want to hang their hat on a scrimmage "win" or "loss". Too many variables go on during a scrimmage that would not give an accurate account to some team winning or losing. If team A scores 3 times and team B scores 2 times then all that means is team A had better results, no win or loss. It's just that simple.
  13. Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buckoltz was sent down to AA after losing his 7 straight game. His 2-9 record with an era of 6.79 has sent him down to the minors.
  14. I guess my point is, if you want to claim a "win" in a scrimmage when the only score came when your third team defense picked up a fumble and ran it in on their third team offense, then so be it. We all know that in a real game, none of those players would see the field in a tightly contested game. : Get real. It's just a scrimmage for crying out loud. Like I posted on another thread, I'll take a "fluke" win in a real game every day over dominating someone in a scrimmage.
  15. According to this article, the scrimmage will be Friday night. Is this true?
  16. According to the PANEWS, the Jasper/Nederland scrimmage will be Friday night, not Thursday night. Could someone check this out please. I had planned on going to this scrimmage if it was played tonight.
  17. That's funny, I recieved word from his friend's mother's brother's uncle's sister that he was close to committing to A&M. ;D
  18. Where's the 5A,4A,2A and 1A polls? Oh, they don't have you know who in them. ;D
  19. Just to set the record straight, I'll take a "fluke" win of a real game over getting manhandled in a glorified practice (scrimmage). But that's just me, I guess I am weird that way. :
  20. I find this hard to believe. Maybe 3 quarters at 10 minutes, but not a full game.
  21. and if a frog had wings....... well you get the picture. :
  22. Attention Setxsports shoppers, nobody wins or loses scrimmages. I repeat, nobody wins or loses scrimmages. Now back to your regular programming.
  23. Isn't this JUST A SCRIMMAGE? Glorified practice is all it is. Nobody wins them, nobody loses them. Never seen a regular season record with 12 games on it, just 10. C'mon people, lighten up. :
