  1. You actually have to ask, Coop. Silsbee, of course. ;D

  3. The answer to the trivia: The last non-scholarship player to win the Heisman Trophy was Ricky Williams of Texas. He signed a minor league contract with the Phillies and in the contract, they paid for his college. Texas never had to claim him on the scholarship list in the 4 years Williams was there.
  4. No way. With the Japanese horse scratching this morning, if Big Brown doesn't win by double digit lengths, it will be considered an upset. Big Brown by 13 1/2 lengths.
  5. You got me....I give. Actually, it's pretty recent. The baseball/football connection is a big hint. I'll give it some more time.
  6. The comments about athletes playing pro baseball and college football remind me of a little trivia question. Who was the last non-scholarship player to win the Heisman trophy?
  7. Seems that there is another REAL important golf tournament happening on those dates too. Now just what tourney is it? Hmmmmmmm....
  8. Congrats Malcolm. Now j_dog, I think stating he has world class speed is a bit over the top, don't you think? He has great speed, not world class. Now we will never know will we? He did not run track. But some of his relatives who did run track were world class, without question. A cousin, and an uncle were on the first hs 400m relay to go under 40 seconds (hand held). And that national record lasted for six years. And the cousin ran in the Atlanta Olympics in the hurdles. I have watched Malcolm run bases for three years. And I have seen him do some amazing things. Just an opinion true, but no, I really do not think it is over the top. But perhaps you are right. He is still a winner. I never questioned him being a winner or not or his athletic ability. Obviously our opinions on "world class" are different. Also, yes I know what his relatives did, but that doesn't make him have world class speed. I have seen him on the football and baseball fields, he is very fast. But only the rare few have world class speed, I don't consider him to be one.

  10. I have to chuckle a little at this thread. Before the first post was made I knew that the thread would be pro select. I mean, the majority of who would reply to this thread would be select coaches or parents. Only a couple of high school coaches would post on this subject therefore it obviously will be one-sided. I agree with Champion, both need to work together. But, IMO, I'll always side with the high school over select/little league/AAU and so forth on every sport. Let the bashing begin. ;D
  11. I could not agree more, Dicky. Lamar has missed the boat the last 2 decades with the Houston area recruits. Lot's of folks have argued that Lamar needs some local recruits to fill the seats in the Montagne, which is true. But I also believe that if you get some Houston players, you will see some of those folks drive over for games too. I'm not sure it is totally necessary to hire a Houston coach as an assistant, but whoever is on the staff needs to definetly work the Houston area very hard.
  12. I found that info off of 3Abaseball.com and thought it was quite interesting, don't know of another site that focuses on one class like they do. I understand. That is a nice site.
  13. May 28, 2008 Jordan Wallace AggieYell.com Talk about it in Football Recruiting Board The small town of Silsbee in the Golden Triangle area of Texas has had its fair share of college recruits throughout the years. It is no different in the class of 2009 as some big time college coaches have come by as of late. The center of attraction is defensive end Josh Skinner. The 6-foot-5, 225 pound defender picked up his first offer from Rice and committed to the Owls on the spot. However, schools have not been deterred and several college coaches have still come through in the last couple weeks. "LSU, Tulane, Texas A&M, Texas, Colorado, UL-Lafayette and some others," Skinner said as to who has been by the school this spring. "There has been a bunch of them." While he is quite the football recruit, Skinner says Rice has an advantage in that they are giving him an opportunity to be a dual-sport athlete at the next level. "They offered me to play football, but they said they would give me the chance to play baseball as well," he said. Another offer may be on the way soon as A&M offensive line coach Jim Turner stopped by to see Skinner recently. "They said they were really interested in me," Skinner said of the Aggies, "but they straight up told me I wouldn't be able to play baseball there. I told them I would like to have the option to play baseball. "[Turner] still said I could expect to receive an offer. He said that the spring is real important and that I just wouldn't be able to play baseball." Skinner's future on the football field may hinge mostly on his chance to play baseball. It would most likely take the Aggies having a change of heart on their stance for Skinner to have a change of heart on commitments. "I'm pretty solid with Rice," he said, "but if they can guarantee me a spot on the baseball team as well then I'd consider switching." Skinner earned first-team all-district honors this past season.
  14. Why post just the 3A info? If you have all the other classification info, post it too. Particularly the 2A and 1A info, seeing that is the only local teams still in it.
  15. Funny, Rivals.com doesn't think so. He isn't listed in the top 50 junior recruits in the state. Jeremey Johnson is listed at #38 overall, #5 qb. But, you know how rankings are sometimes. :
  16. This not yet "official" but consider it done. Also, he will not be the Def. Co, he will be the defensive line coach.
  17. In last night's game 5 win for the Celts, Perk had 18 points and 16 rebounds. He killed the Pistons on the boards, was personally out rebounding them. Detroit ended up with just 25 rebounds. Good job Perk!!!!
  18. That's a very nice and polite way of saying " woulda, coulda, shoulda".
  19. Who are these two old geysers? Someone needs to call all the nursing homes and see if any of their residents are missing. Also check and see if anyone close to a nursing home is missing a red Kawasaki Mule. I hope someone finds them soon, it's such a tragedy when our elderly get lost.
  20. How will they look? Very young! Of course maybe it's because I am 44 years old.
  21. Setxsports.com has a contract with LISD to broadcast ALL their games starting this fall. We will be the Lumberton Raider football broadcaster. Some local radio stations will do Lumberton games ( PNG, Nederland ) but all games will be here on this site.
  22. I am there. I'll see where the Setxsports.com suite will be located.
  23. I know there are some who would like to have a Orange county game of the week, myself included. However, Bridge City has a good following and I would still like to see Bridge City broadcasted every week. Bridge City administrators what do you think? Actually we tried, no go.
