It's any schools prerogative to opt up. Most do it to minimize travel and in some cases, be more in a district that is similar to the other sports district. I get that. But this is not a move that would put them in a similar district. BC, LC-M, Lumberton and Vidor are in a different district for the other sports. Only Huffman and Livingston would share the same district with Liberty and HJ in all sports. So doing it for those purposes just doesn't make sense. Which leads to what Stepp is saying. Opting up for competitive reasons and pretty sure that's not why UIL allows this choice. Be curious to see if they do or not.

I'll be at this one but most likely in press box and not sidelines since it's going to rain later tonight.

This game will be played tonight unless it's too much lightning. Neither team wants to lose this stadium and officiating crew that both have agreed upon. That will certainly happen if this game gets postponed.

Nope. I spoke to a UIL official a couple of years ago at state basketball tourney. That is not happening.

I understand. The realignment may change things but a school has to decide to opt up before the realignment. I just don't see with Splendora and Bridge City moving up, that there is much difference in the scheduling that would help those two schools. Also, Shepherd will be moving up to 4A DII and will likely replace BC in this football district but will likely be in the basketball, baseball district with Huffman, Livingston, HJ and the rest like they were before they moved down a few years ago. But, until UIL changes how a school can opt up, it's there for the taking.
