  1. Wow guys, you seriously think I am that other guy? I didn't get to read his post but judging by what Never said, he was more critical than what I have been.  I have not ever personally attacked Coach Wedel and said he is just not trying.  Did I suggest a position change.... yes.  Do I think that we could have won a few more games had that happened.....yes.  He got upset over me posting my opinions, but I feel I have always been respectful to him and have never broken any of the boards rules.  I could never figure out why he cared so much about what I put on here to begin with.  I have never said he is a bad coach.  A matter a fact, I have said several times that he is a good coach.  Coaches are not perfect and will make mistakes.  Everyone does.  We don't have to agree with everything they do, and if we don't agree it doesn't mean we hate them.....  I think he played his boys where he thought was best and that is great.  A good coach isn't going to rearrange his team over what a fan puts on a message board.  I have a different opinion, that doesn't even matter.  Coach Wedel is definitely a better coach than some of the other soccer coaches that Vidor has had in the past.  The game last night was unfortunate and like ya'll said earlier, it didn't seem like the boys were in it.  They were not mentally prepared for the game.  They did come back and play an amazing second round in district.  I really enjoyed watching them this year and can't wait to see what happens next season.  I'm sure Coach Wedel will have some good plans for them this summer and they will come back ready for some competitive play.
  2. Congratulations to pirate soccer for making the play offs.  Vidor has been playing very well.  If our forwards can capitalize on the chances they get, we can win this one.  If our defence can shut down Lumberton's stand out forward Jordan then I predict a 2-0 win for Vidor.
  3. I hope Vidor makes it into playoffs, but all of this depending on other teams to win or lose is just plain frustrating.  Watching the second round of district, Vidor has shown that they are as good or better than any of the other top teams in district.  How is it that we are going into the last game of district on a prayer, that other teams will lose so that we can make it into the playoffs?  With the talent level and the experience on this team we should be comfortably sitting in a playoff spot like PNG and Nederland.  I hate to compare us to them but I feel like we have the same amount of talent, if not more.  With all of this negativity aside, I will be cheering for you tonight, and you can count me in, as one of the fans praying that you'll make it.
  4. What an impressive win tonight.  The pirates came out playing hard from the very beginning.  We were able to score in the first minute of the game. Not even half way through the first half Christian had a great shot outside the box putting us up 2:0.  We kept control of the game for almost the entire first half.  Towards the end of the half PNG scored their first goal.  In the second half PNG came out and dominated the field.  They tied the game 2:2.  The two teams fought hard and battled at both ends of the field.  Towards the end of the second half Vidor got a second wind, and started pressuring PNG's defense, and gained control of the game.  The fans were really in it by this time, and started chanting and using their Vuvuzelas to cheer for their team.  With buckets and drums, students rallied behind their home players.  Jacob, the Pirates outstanding midfielder, managed to receive the ball at the top of the box, and with pace, control, and speed, made a perfect through pass to Jimmy.  Jimmy once again (similar to last game) flew by the defender and placed the ball between the goalie and near the post. What a goal.  This brought the score to 3:2 with the Pirates in the lead.  Despite PNG's best effort, they were not able to make a comeback, and Vidor walked away with a victory.  Great game by both teams.  Congratulations to both coaches for having their teams ready to play, and providing us with an awesome game.  Kudos to the Pirates back line for a great defensive game.
  5. Yes, I still would have been excited.  Whether  or not they made the last goal, they were still playing better as a team.  Implementing and suggesting are two different things.  I can't implement anything.  I would still suggest them play like they were in the last line up.  Who knows what line up he will have on the field tomorrow night, but I am looking forward to seeing the game. As long as they come out ready to play, I'm sure it will be a great game.  Let's get a win.  Go Pirates!
  6. I am sorry to disappoint you Newcastle but I am not going to stop posting about the VIDOR soccer team, because the last time I checked it wasn't the WEDEL Pirates.  This is our team.  You are very important to the team but it is the community that supports it.  It does not belong to you.  I have lived in Vidor a long time and am a fan of all the sports.  I have never had this much confrontation over a few ideas and comments.  I am sorry if you are getting offended.  Don't take it personally.  If it bothers you that much, you don't have to read them.  I have said a few times now that I think you are a good coach.  That does not mean that I have to agree with you on everything you do.  I only mentioned the player's names to encourage and brag on them.  Last time I checked, this was not against any of the rules.  I don't understand why a coach would have a problem with someone complimenting their team.  The last post I felt was extremely positive and supportive.  As far as your several reasons (2?), the line up issue was a valid observation.  You are nit picking trying to find something to argue about.  Review your tape.  You are talking to me like you know me.  I have never claimed to be anyone who would have some kind of pull over you or your team.  Now I am making a suggestion for you, please stop telling me what to do.  I simply want the same right that you have, to post my opinion just like anyone else.  I am a Pirate fan and will continue to be.
  7. Yes!  It was a great game tonight.  The pirates came out of the gate ready to play, and were able to score within about the first 20 min.  Geraldo scored the first goal.  Then Central took control of the game, and was killing us in the middle, and was able to tie the game.  The second half started with Central still in control of the game.  With 20 min. left in the game Coach Wedel moved Jacob C. to the mid. feild with Christian,  Tyler was on the left wing and Taylor on the right wing, Jimmy as the forward, and the back line was Clayton, Barton, Edgar on the right, and Geo on the left, and Scott was the goalie.  This change gave us more energy, speed, and our passing definitely improved.  We again started to dominate every aspect of the game.  Defense, midfield, and offence.  The game was tied 1:1 with about four minutes left in the game, and Central was attacking and committing most of thier players forward trying their best to score a goal.  Our defense was able to gain possession of the ball, and quickly play it to the middle where the ball found Christian.  Christian quickly moved the ball forward and created a numerical advantage.  He had Tyler on the left and Jimmy on the right.  From there he made a quick pass off to Jimmy.  Jimmy with unbelievable speed was able to run right past the defense, keep control of the ball, take a quick look, and place the ball in the far corner away from the goalie.  It was a GREAT play.  From the beginning to the end.  That is how we have to continue to play.  Although I have been advocating for Zach to be the goalie, I think he gave us more stability on defense tonight as center back.  Zach, Clayton, Geo, and Edgar were all players of the game tonight in my book.  This was the best line up I have seen all season.  We need to take a blue print of the last twenty minutes of tonights game, and use it for the rest of the season.  I was so impressed by the last twenty minutes of the game. Starting tonight, every game is a play off game.  If we play like we played at the end of the game, I have no doubt that we will win the rest of our games.  Congratulations on the win.
  8. Is that a serious question?.......  People do it all the time.  I think it is pretty obvious that I think it is okay.  Every coach understands that fans are going to have their own opinions, and believe it or not, they might not agree with them.  I'm pretty sure coach Wedel isn't losing any sleep over what fans put on a message board.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and are allowed to voice those opinions if done in a respectful way.
  9. Wow........ Really?  Why are you so sensitive?  I never said I think I know the players better than Coach Wedel.  I think it is extreme to say that just because you don't agree with a coach about where a player best benefits his team that "you are not truly a fan".  I don't think I have belittled anyone.  I have already said that I think coach Wedel is a good coach, and it is just my opinion that we would do better if Zach was our goalie.  I have also said that Scott is doing the best he can and he is not a bad goalie...... it's just that Zach is better. Why does this make you upset?  It only makes sense that Zach would be a better goalie just because of all the experience he has that Scott does not.  I didn't say....he was terrible, way worse than, no way he should be playing, or anything like that......  That to me, would be belittling.  I am simply stating my opinion and I have yet to meet a fan that agrees 100% with any coach (of any sport).  Like Coach Wedel said earlier...... it comes with the job.  I don't understand how people are still stuck on this topic.  It is just my opinion and I am ready to move on.  I really don't get the big deal.  I am more interested in talking about the game for tomorrow than focusing on this.  Obviously Zach is not going to be the goalie and that is okay.  My feelings are not hurt.  Shoot..... he's not even playing left mid anymore.  He played center back for the last two games, and to tell you the truth, it's still not the position I would like to see him play, but I think it was an improvement.  It seemed like he benefited the team more there than he did in the mid field.  Zach alone does not make this team.  Everyone on the team has to step up their game for the second round of district or we will not make the play offs.  I am a Vidor fan and have been for a long time.  Is this good enough for you coach Parker?
  10. "Dang-it, ended up being Vidor". That's all we say lately...
  11. "of course you wont..." Now that is funny..... I am not saying that Wedel is a bad coach.  I do however feel as though he would do better by playing Zach as the goalie.  Zach not only played goalie for his club team but under Wedel last year, and Correia the year before that.  He has all of the experience from the club team and the schools.  I know he plays great in the mid field but you have to have some of your great players on defense as well as the offense.  This is just my opinion and I love the open discussion.  Although, I refuse to believe that we are a better, well rounded team with Zach as a mid feilder.  Do we have a better offence when he plays mid feild......yes...  Do we have a better defense...... no.  To win games you need both.  Once again, this is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.
  12. That's great coach.  You should do that (only talk about your team with them) but I will not be dropping by to talk shop.  I know you think you are doing what is best.  My intentions were to post my opinion of what I think would make the team better.  You really don't have to respond at all.  You don't have to justify anything to me.  I understand that your responsibility is to your team and those are the ones you can explain your motives too.  As far as criticizing the goalie, that was not really my intention.  I apologize to the young goalie.  I know he is doing the best he can and gives 100%.  He is a really great well rounded athlete.  I was only trying to point out that we do have another player on the team who is better at the goalie position.  I am sorry if that hurts the other goalies feelings but I am pretty sure he and you know that already.  As far as your parents comment.....  Are you saying the parents love you or are you saying you don't care about how the parents think or feel?  I would be careful if I were you.  Your parents can be your greatest asset or your worst enemy.  I really wish you the best and hope the team makes the playoffs.  That is what we expect from our soccer team in Vidor.
  13. What's funny is you are the only one who is laughing.  What is your suggestion?  Why do you think they are losing to teams like LCM, PNG, and Central? Don't tell me they are better than us because they aren't.  This years team has a very talented group of boys that have played together for about ten years.  Zach, Tyler, Taylor, and Brandon  made the playoffs as freshmen starting on the varsity team.  They went two rounds deep in the playoffs.  It's been two years since that season and they should be better than ever.  There is no way that we should not be winning these games.  What do you think the problem is?  I think that the coach has his player in the wrong position.......  What's your guess?  I'm don't think it is funny that a team with this much potential is not performing to their ability.  I also guarantee that the parents in the bleachers are not laughing......  I am not one to blame the coach but it is what it is......... P.S. For the record Never.......  I was not intentionally "bashing" the goal keeper.  I know he is doing his best but everyone knows that he is not a goalie.  He is a good athlete and has potential to become a good goalie.  Unfortunately/fortunately, we have someone else on the team that plays that position better.  I'm not saying not to play him (put him on the feild), but don't play him as goalie in a competitive game that we need the win to go to the play offs.  Since we have someone who has played goalie his whole life, I think he gives us a better chance of winning.
  14. Good job Islander, It is always great to read you articles. Vidor had 10 or more shots in the goal and score zero, Lcm had four shots in the goal and score 2. The explanation is simple, Lcm had their best goal keeper playing Golly, Vidor had their only legit goal keeper on the team, who is one of the best in SETX playing left mid. You can’t build a winning soccer team around a weak goal keeper. It has to start with the golly.  We can beat up on ozen and Bridge city but can we win big games? The answer is no. Not with Zach Barton Playing left mid. I think Matt Wedel is a great soccer Coach and no one wants to win more than he does, I don’t know his rationale behind playing Zach Barton as left mid, but  It is not working.  He is the most valuable player on the team, He is the x factor and he needs be between the goal post.  It was a great game last night, both teams played hard and fought till the end, the difference was that the pirates didn’t have someone that can make crucial saves at the end of the half or the end of the game. Lcm’s goal keeper was amazing, he was player of the game, if it wasn’t for him, lcm would of lost the game last night. For the pirates to make the playoffs they need to beat teams like nederland, png, central and lcm, we already lost to png, central and lcm. With Zach as a goal keeper we have a better chance of beating those teams. These are just my opinion. I am just a passionate pirate’s soccer fan. Keep your heads up pirates, you have a great team and there are a lot of games left. Play together, play hard and don’t give up. We’ll be behind you 100% and we want to see you in the playoffs.
