  1. He would be high on my list to build around because of his intangibles and his leadership alone. The guy is a baseball player and does a lot of things the right way to help his team win. Besides Ortiz, Jeter may be the most clutch player in the game today. Like him or not, Jeter is one of the best baseball players in the game and fans of the game should respect what he does on the field.
  2. Hicks and Robertson of BC Gunn and Cloeren of LCM THE Possum in OF
  3. Hill just made the smart move and signed with the Suns ;D
  4. Do you think Pujols checked in to see if it was possible for Lidge to pitch to him for the Derby??
  5. Because I dont hold it against him for doing what he thought was best for him. How can I judge him for doing what he thought was best? Now Boras the agent I agree is a jerk, who cant say that besides his players? I am first a baseball fan and Beltran is a great baseball player all the way around. If I didn't like players who left teams after just two years and didnt like players who went somewhere because of the money, I would only like about two players in the MLB. I choose to like players the most who are all around baseball players like Beltran, like Jeter, Pujols and A-Rod. If the owners are going to give them money, why hold it against the players? To me New York is a better gig. It is New York City for one. If he said he didn't want to play in a big city, shouldnt Houston have been ruled out too? He should have stayed in Kansas City if that was the case. New York is a big stage, they are in the running for their second NL East title in a row and they have a great corp of players. We are not in his head. He might have seen the young guys there and wanted to be a part of it. Houstons track record is and always has been to yes have some success but make dumb decisions down the road. He is not the first player to leave town. I will never feel bad for cheering for a player who gives his best every game and is one of the game's brightest stars. That is what being a baseball fan is to me.
  6. Hunter Pence is amazing, hopefully Ensbergs good day continues something and maybe we can build on next year. Sorry guys, they cant make up 10 games in the wild card with 10 teams in front of them. Just being a realist! And by the way, I cheered everytime the people around booed Beltran, even during the home run. I just dont blame the guy for taking a better gig.
  7. Ill be there on Sunday. First time for me to ever see Oswalt pitch!
  8. And he wasnt just good, he was great. He strived to be the best. I remember he asked me if he was going to get MVP of my baseball team! He did have a great year in baseball. five homers from the leadoff spot is what you dream of.
  9. Best I have ever seen is Earl. I loved watching him in any sport and now he is a Horn. Cant get any better!

  12. As a PNG fan, let me pick Kendal Briles for you! And ours of course is Dustin Long
  13. Find some "True Stats" for me.. How many errors did your All District 2nd baseman make this year... If you can't throw the ball from 2nd base to 1rst you do not deserve to be playing much less on the All District team.. I saw your coach yank a kid out from short stop, in the middle of an inning, for making a throwing error vs Needville (remember that) Yet we watched Bolton make, I'm guessing no less than 15 0r 20 E's this year and never missed a start...I'm sure that 15-20 is a "Very" low estimate I think he made 5 or 6 in the final Jasper series alone...
  14. I realize that at times but have always liked those teams. Dont know how that got stuck on me early on
  15. I'll jump in on this one......IM A LAKER FAN TOO!.....I back King and Kobe
  16. Sorry I didnt get any scores, just took some photos. D. Johnson from Nederland is the real deal. That was the first time I saw him. I spent time watching the QBs from WOS, OF and BC...All did a great job and looked like they are ready. They each have some big shoes to fill but they looked like all of them can get the job done.
  17. Just once more I must say.... Stupid Spurs.
  18. Usually don't post my own stories but I love these girls!
  19. By Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader WEST ORANGE — One has already been there and the other is on her way July 2. Former West Orange-Stark Lady Mustang standouts Brittney James and Brittney Scott are now both done wrecking havoc on the high school ranks and now both will be at the collegiate level. James will be a sophomore at the University of North Texas this fall while Scott is taking her act to the University of Houston. For the time being, James and Scott can be seen making a lot of people’s lives miserable at WO-S High School by teaming up for pick-up games and shoot-arounds. James is fresh off a successful freshman season when she was fourth on the team in scoring with eight points a game and hit 39 percent of her shots. James played in all 29 games this past year and started in seven. “One thing I learned is you have to go out there and play hard every minute,†James said. “In high school I could get away with half playing and still get my points and other stats. College you have to bring it every second as soon as the clock starts. Everybody is on the same level.†Scott has been the beneficiary of James’ knowledge and feels she is ready to make the jump to Division I basketball for the Lady Cougars. “She (James) told me of a few of the workouts they do at UNT,†Scott said. “I have been trying to pick up on those hints and I am sure I’ll be ready. I know in high school my endurance was not where it needed to be. I got by with it here at West Orange but it needs to be picked up.†The two were in the gym Monday afternoon schooling whoever got in their way, nailing down three pointers in a flurry. “I have been shooting everyday,†James said. “Then I lift weights and run every other day. I don’t go as intense as I would up at North Texas but I am trying to stay in shape. Hopefully when I get back it will not be as tough.†James, who looks to Scott as a little sister, is excited for the future Lady Cougar and knows Scott is ready for the next level. “I have been talking to her about college for a while,†James said. “She’s ready because she works so hard. She will make everyone proud and will have everyone behind her back here. They did the same for me.†The two were close to getting a chance to square off against one another next season but UNT’s schedule was already filled and the game could not be set up. “It would be real cool to play against her,†Scott said. “I’d probably be laughing the entire game.†James agreed it would have been nice to face Scott for the first time in their lives. “We are always on the same team,†James said. “I hope we get to play each other before I graduate, it would be exciting.†Although the two were stars on the high school courts both know they have a few things to work on this summer and up until the first game starts. “I have been playing against guys here lately to help prepare me even more,†Scott said. “My short term goal for Houston is to start at some point in the year. I have been working on my fundamentals and using my left hand on the court. So I do that and work on my fundamentals.†James is working on making her college play resemble the play she was used to in high school. “I have to be more consistent next year,†James added. “I would score 15 for a few games then go back down to six points and then go right back up. I’m just going to keep working hard and get better.â€

  24. LU’s Stroud eager to tame Oakmont Country Club Bob West The Port Arthur News Take it from Chris Stroud, Oakmont Country Club, site of the 107th U.S. Open, is every bit the beast that you have been hearing and reading about. “I think the winning score will be in the 7-to-10 over range," said Stroud, who tees off in his first major Thursday at 11:30 a.m. CST. "Bogeys and some double bogeys are inevitable for everybody. And birdies are going to be very hard to make. If anybody makes as many as five birdies in any round, I'll be surprised." Stroud has been at Oakmont since Monday, walking the storied, par 70 layout, playing practice rounds and mapping strategy with his caddy. He says it's essential to have a good game plan and stick to it. "You really have to know where you can put the ball and where you can't put it. On some of the greens, if you are five feet above the pin, you feel fortunate if you two putt. The greens are scary fast and they have so much break. It is imperative to get under the hole." The former Lamar University All-America says the atmosphere during the run-up to the U.S. Open is unike anything he's ever seen or experienced. "It has a totally different feel from a regular PGA Tour event," he said. "There's just an awesome aura about it. You can literally feel the vibes." Ask if being on golf's biggest stage has him more nervous than usual, Stroud answered in the affirmative. But he said he thinks that could work in his favor. "It's a different type of nervousness," he explained. "When I'm a little nervous, I can usually get into my zone easier. I'm just relishing the moment and the experience. I going to have as much fun with this as I can." Stroud, who has been known as a good grinder dating back to his days in junior golf, said he expects to make the cut and possibly contend. "I have always visualized myself as a good U.S. Open player," he said. "In college, I always played my best on the hardest courses that made you think your way around them. Mental toughness is one of my strengths and this course is a great test of mental toughness. "Believe me, there are some guys who are going to get discouraged and pretty much give up. The golf course is relentless. A big part of my preparation has been to get a lot of rest to be mentally fresh. It's going to be a grind." Stroud said that Oakmont is one course where distance off the tee won't be much of a factor because of the premium on keeping the ball in the fairway. "Distance isn't much of a factor," he confided. "If you only hit it 250 yards off the tee, and put it in the fairway every hole, you would beat 75 percent of the field. On some holes there is no bailout. On several holes, the longer you hit it the more difficult it is to hold the fairways. "As in all majors, it will come down to putting. The guy who makes all his 6 footers will be the player to beat. But again, the key is getting the ball in the right zone on the green. If you don't do that, you pay a severe price." Stroud used the 9th hole, which was changed from a medium length par 5 to a long par 4, as an example. He said if the pin is front right on the hole he's probably going to try to hit his second shot into the front right bunker. "Unless you hit it up under the hole, being in the bunker probably gives you the best chance to make par. That may sound a little crazy, but it won't be the craziest thing you see this week. There are going to be some bizarre shots. There are some putts where you have to putt the ball sideways to get it trickling toward the cup." So what is Stroud's target score for himself? "I'm thinking 12 over," he said. "I would like to shoot 73 all four days. If I can do it, I will beat a lot of people."
