  1. Bottom 2 Wharton guy on third with one down BC 1-0, stringer with five strike outs
  2. Im just lucky Gary has done it long enough and can make me sound good! Orange County is lucky to have that guy.
  3. I wouldnt say LCMs pitching was all that bad at all. Brown wasnt terrible by any means for a SOPHOMORE in his first playoff game. A few mistakes kept an inning alive on him when he should have been out of it. Leggett has been sick I believe so give him a break and Johnson did a nice job keeping Bay City off the board the rest of the way. It is always what the radar gun says which says a pitcher is doing a good job or not. Bay City made the plays when needed and got some great bunts laid down and the Bears made a few mistakes which can be corrected. The big ballpark kept some balls inside the park which are usually out for the Bears so dont pin everything on the pitching. The Blackcats won the game plain and simple and deserve the credit. The LCM coaching staff knew this would a battle and that is what it has turned into. PS: Those guys on the radio were awesome weren't they! ;D
  4. LCM should take this one....Coach Griff and Stephenson are pretty smart coaches and will coach the Bears past Bay City and get a lot of help from the Bears players. They know what they are in for and are ready.
  5. It is great being a Yankee fan! ;D
  6. Great win. Proud to see the Hawks still going after working so hard to get it. It's a great run.
  7. Congrats on that! Does anyone know how the girls game went?
  8. Not a very classy post. I remember talking to BC Coach every night after their games and he was not once upset over the Cardinals efforts. They may not have had stud players or won many games but at least they gave their all. Don't kick a team when they are down and don't call out players when hardwork just doesn't pay off in the win column.

  10. Congratulations Bears, what a great achievement! Jake is by far the best hitter I have ever covered in high school baseball. This is a young team but I will not count them out until the final out.
  11. By Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader VIDOR — Simply amazing. Those words came out quite easily for Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears Coach Steve Griffith’s mouth Friday night after catcher Jake Rowell put on a show and the Bears won the District 22-4A championship. The Bears finished off the Vidor Pirates early Friday night with a 10-0 five inning pounding to give LC-M a 12-2 mark in the district standings, one game ahead of the Port Neches-Groves Indians. The Bears end the regular season 25-4. The Pirates (20-7, 9-5) are now tied with Nederland for third place in the district. Vidor and Nederland will decide the final playoff spot at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nederland’s Metreyeon-Delahoussaye Field. “I am glad the way it turned out and I could not be more proud of a team,†Griffith said. “When we started this thing we just wanted to get in (the playoffs). Nobody ever remembers what you finish in district, just how far you go. Our next goal is to play as far as we can.†Rowell finished off an impressive district season with an incredible hitting display on Friday with two home runs and six RBI. The senior catcher was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and a walk. He struck out just once in the 14 district games in 2007 and hit well over the .600 mark. Rowell was not the only hero on Friday as sophomore starting pitcher Dallas Brown allowed just one hit to the Pirates. Brown hurled all five innings and gave up no runs on one hit with five strike outs and no walks. “It feels great to win this district,†Brown said. “Having a great defense behind you makes your pitching job a lot easier. I was never paying attention to the one-hitter. I just was throwing and letting the guys make the plays. Then when you have an offense like ours my job is to let their people hit and let the defense go to work.†After leading 1-0 heading into the top of the third, the Bears bats went to work as Tim Barry led the inning off with a triple to the center field fence. Rowell then stepped into the batter’s box and took a 0-2 offering from Vidor starter Trae Hester past the right field fence making it 3-0. Chad Richard then ripped a double to center field and Stefan Cloeren was then able to move Richard to third with a sacrifice bunt. With two down, Adam Leggett got a RBI single to left making it 4-0 after the top half of the third. Kris Hearn, who was 2-for-4, scored the game’s first run after leading off with a hard double to center. He was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and Rowell got his first RBI with a single to right. The Bears’ offense was not nearly done. With two down in the top of the fourth Barry and Rowell drew back-to-back walks. Phillip Richard came in to run for Rowell and Barry had moved to second on a stolen base and moved to third during Rowell’s at bat on a wild pitch. Both Barry and Richard made quick trips around the bases as Cloeren blasted a 0-2 offering from new Vidor pitcher Jay Nixon four a double to left. Barry and Richard’s runs made it 6-0 Bears. Then in the top of the fifth the Bears decided five innings would be enough to prove once and for all the belonged in the playoffs as district champions. Leggett, who was 2-for-3, led the top of the fifth off with a deep homer to center field giving the Bears a 7-0 lead. Vidor then was able to get two quick outs and the game looked like it would go on a little longer. Once again someone forgot to tell the Bears. Hearn singled to center and moved to second on a passed ball before Barry walked. This is when Rowell solidified his case as the District 22-4A Most Valuable Player of the Year. Rowell battled to a full count on Nixon and then fouled off two more pitchers. The eighth pitch of the at bat was blasted into right field over the Vidor score board giving the Bears the 10-0 lead. “It feels so great to win this thing especially back-to-back,†Rowell said. “We came out and proved everyone wrong. They (the younger Bear players) worked harder than any team I have ever seen. It is phenomenal. Dallas Brown is another hard worker and tonight he pitched his heart out. We proved tonight we are going to be a force to be reckoned with.†Griffith admitted his team skipped a lot of running and weight lifting this season to work on the baseball aspect of the game. “We did a lot of work on the baseball side,†Griffith said. “Next year they will not be so lucky. We lost Dallas for three weeks and he has come back strong. I am so proud of what he has done. Then it was a story book ending to the district career of Jake Rowell. What he did tonight was amazing.â€
  12. They only lost 8 of 9 starters, catcher Jake Rowell is the only returner. They are young and proving a lot of people wrong very quickly.
  13. Dont jump to conclusions yet, nothing official at all has been said. Even talked to Tidwell today and no name what so ever was given.

  18. Smart money and my money would be on a guy named Earl. He is beyond fast and just has the desire to win and will not lose at anything he does.
  19. Why throw Wheeler in a 4-0 game in the bottom of the 9th?? Dont take a chance with him screwing up and his head being destroyed like Lidges. Then it almost happened, 2 runs and four hits. To me, just doesnt make sense. Put Lidge in, Trevor Miller or keep in Qualles. Do I need to go coach? (I know, I'd be fired in a week but hey)
  20. The competition between Earl Thomas and Co. of WO-S and BC's Dishon and Mills are going to be great! The running finals will be awesome and Wednesdays long and triple jumps will be very entertaining. Then the girls sides of these events are amazing too. I have never that big of a track fan until lately, if you never been to a meet, head to Orangefield on Wednesday and Friday!
  21. I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR ALLLLL YOU POOR ASTRO FANS....JOIN ME AND COOP ON THE DARK SIDE AND ROOT FOR THE YANKEES. If our closer was doing this garbage Lidge calls pitching, we would buy a new one! The Evil Empire always has room for Astro fans who get fed up!
  22. Who is to say if either BJ or B Scott wouldn't go to LU? And if they still didnt go, why not at least have a program set up at LU that at least makes great players consider staying home? If the Lady Cards are winning games and making the NIT or NCAA on a regular basis, those players would at least give it thought. No you cant keep them all but at least lets have a team that makes stars think. That makes it better for everyone involved.
  23. I never post our own stories, many because I feel funny about doing so. This one I wanted to because of how great a game she had. Enjoy By Van Wade The Orange Leader LAKE CHARLES (La.) - She may have traded in her green for purple, but Cody Trahan is still "golden." Trahan, who helped lead the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears to the Class 4A state softball title from the mound just this past summer, is making waves as a freshman for the sixth-ranked NCAA team in the nation. Trahan made her fourth start for the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers in somewhat of a homecoming against the McNeese State University Cowgirls Wednesday night and she passed once again with flying colors. Trahan tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three and the Lady Tigers took advantage of a grand slam by shortstop Andrea Smith in the second inning as LSU took down the Lady Cowgirls 6-0. There was a record crowd of 847 at the contest, with much of the crowd hailing from across the Sabine River to watch their favorite pitcher throw. "I'll admit, I was a little nervous," Trahan said. "After the first inning, it was okay because I felt like I was right back at home again with all the familiar faces. To see all the support and the signs that were made in supporting not only me but the team as well, that was awesome." Trahan now owns a perfect 4-0 mark on the season. In 27 innings of work, she has yet to yield an earned run, She's allowed just eight hits and has struck out 45 and walked just nine." Trahan has enjoyed her first season with the Lady Tigers and long-time coach Yvette Girouard. "It's been a great season and my teammates are just a blast to hang around with," Trahan said. "After the spring break, Coach Girouard stressed to the freshmen how they are no longer considered freshmen anymore. She has a lot of faith in everyone's skills. All of my teammates, they have really helped me to fit in." In high school Trahan was on the mound and in the batting order every single Tuesday and Friday night. This season, without question, has been a season of adjustment. Senior All-American Emily Turner (11-4, 1.37 ERA) and sophomore DanI Hofer (12-1, 1:31 ERA) have received the bulk of the work with all of their valuable experience in Southeast Conference wars. "Not getting all of the playing time has been the biggest adjustment for me but I know my time will come,"Trahan said. "We have such a deep and talented staff and working with Emily and Dani has only helped me improve on the mound. My teammates were with me all the way tonight with all my family and friends here, they knew how special the moment was for me." The Lady Tigers improved to 32-5 for the season and currently lead the Western Division of the SEC with a 7-2 record after taking two-of-three against Alabama last weekend. The Lady Cowgirls fell to 14-24 overall and are 4-5 in Southland Conference play. LSU defeated the Cowgirls in Baton Rouge 7-1 back on March 7. The Lady Tigers exploded on Lady Cowgirl starter Cori Bram in the top of the second frame. Killian Roessner drew a leadoff walk and Taylor Hollis followed with a deep double to right. Bram then hit Kristen Hobbs to load the bases and then hit Shannon Stein with the bases loaded, allowing Roessner to score. Lady Tiger shortstop Andrea Smith added to the onslaught by crushing a Bram offering over the left-field fence, clearing the bases for a grand slam to up the LSU lead to 5-0. LSU added some insurance in the seventh. Quinlan Duhon lead off with a infield single and later scored on an RBI double to left by Leslie Klein. McNeese's Rachel King had two hits for her squad, one in the second inning and the other in the seventh while Jana Jones had a single in the fourth Cori Bram absorbed the loss on the hill for McNeese. She pitched three innings, allowing three hits while striking out three and walking two. Jones hurled the final four frames, allowing four hits while striking out one.
