It is hard to find coaches that can consistently win and she did that better at WOS than the coaches before her. It is really hard to understand why this happened. As one comment above suggested that the Volleyball coach held on to their job and was horrible, I must be fair when I say that nobody really fires Volleyball and track coaches for not winning. I hope that there was a better reason to let Orebo go, than she did not make the playoffs?? Sure OF and HJ and the cream of the crop but Silsbee graduated their athletes and BC as well HF are good not great teams.
On the contrary to what many may believe Coach Jacks is not moving from Vidor...If he was everyone would know by now...he would not be hosting a spring league or having summer camps or starting an aau team...this is a very illogical rumor that someone with too much time and no life started just to get drama in their lives. He is returning to Vidor ISD and will continue to develop their girls basketball program with his two daughters. The source of this rumor is non-reliable. Just because someone has moved many times in the past does not mean they will continue to do the same...Coach Jacks has finally found a school that appreciates him and his coaching styles and a group of athletes that do the same.
Glad to hear that the Vidor program made many strides, all in the right direction. I hope that he stays beyond his daughters graduation. Vidor needs to keep heaping the love on him and keep him!!
DoveHunter, I find it interesting you say the talent level at HF isn't that good, but you feel the HF BAsketball coach needed more time, I'm guessing thats what you believe. He had more talent this year than previous seasons. Some coaches still don't know how to coach talent, no matter what sport. YOUR TURN!
Blue Dove from what I understand you were so happy with the hiring that you missed the meet and greet. You spend a lot of time on here asking about the HF spring basketball team and your kids do not play on it. I am sure the talent at HF has grown exponential since your son and the used car salesman son rolled into high school. Every coach and system takes time to develop, so you giving the new coach until game three or four before you remind the SETX faithful how you won all those national titles in little dribblers and how it is time for change again?

Track takes desire and god given talent that is true, but it also takes GOOD coaching combined with talent and desire. No doubt that HF has a great track coach. Funny to hear some say on here to GIVE him time that is what the boys basketball coach would have liked but that is another message board. Coach price is a regional director on the Texas High School Coaches Association so he is well respected in the coaching ranks. I think he wants to build one more program before he rest and he may tell you that he bit off more than he can chew or as he likes to put it "you eat a elephant one bite at a time" HF is more like a heard of elephants with parents trying to tell you how to chew.

Whatever!! My apologies to all you Richardson Lovers. Bottom line is he bettered the program and people hate on him for it!! Makes BH look bad when people hate on a winner!
So what you are saying is that the track coach that is there now and has been there for over five years now, left a dominate Ozen program, is not a factor in their success it was ALL coach price? Wow talk about passing the love around to everyone but the Coach that is actually working with the kids. That may be another reason HF is such a tough place for a coach to set up roots. I think when he was let go at BH and then picked up by HF, HF invested $30K in the weight room. Any coach with that type of investment would show good dividends. Lets watch coach price and see how he develops his linemen on both sides of the ball and how well he performs against BC and OF those are schools that compare to HF talent. Silsbee and WOS are above average so we will not look at how they do against them.
Coaching boys and girls is different. Anyone with kids of opposite genders knows that. Nice ol Gary Blair at A&M would not be treated with the same respect by the men's team there. It makes you wonder if the AD there really cares about boys basketball when he hires someone like that.
Not sure AD made that hire. The question was what is wrong with HF and it sure is not the coaches it is parents that feel the need to put every analysis of every possession and loss on this website. Orangefield parents are like HF with one glaring difference the coaches there can see the players have the work ethic and skill to win. Not the case at HF, those kids will make great employees, bosses and husband and wives. Just not athletes, mom and dad at HF blame everything bad on coaches therefore kids are held to zero accountability. We keep heckling the hiring of the boys coach not to disrespect the coach, to point out that the parents that forced the old coach out. Using this website to air their grievances could not have dreamed that the school would settle on a girls coach. He is probably the best for the job, but seriously Kirbyville out hired HF and that comes back to original question what is wrong with HF. 1. Parents are over involved and school employees are so aware of this they have steered friends and family members from this district for employment. 2. Pay, along with admin that reads these post and make sure that the loud minority is heard makes it a district that will always be exemplary and never consistently win.

Look at the hiring of the boys basketball job, they hired a girls coach and the girls basketball job had the first four turn down job because pay is so bad. Look at boys basketball, head coach and all asst. are not coming back, how do you get anyone to coach those boys. Also the comments on this board after a loss in any sport have to be deleted by admin because of the negative talk. Had a friend tell me that at least three employees have told family members not to apply for openings, at HF, how sad is that. Take their pay check but can't say it is a good place to work. Only school in Golden triangle that is this messed up.
I happen to work there and it's an absolutely great place to work. I left for one year to be closer to home after I got married but went back to HF after a year because myself and my wife missed the home atmosphere. One of three or four schools last year that were Exemplary all the way through. I don't believe that is too messed up... :) This is about sports and lets look at the head football coach, was fired at last job. Head Baseball coach fired at last job, New head boys basketball coach a girls basketball coach that was asked to look this summer, on way to getting fired. Exemplary does not mean that those kids are any more prepared for college than the Nederland, PNG or Ozen kids, it means that the teachers teach the test and very well and that the parents their know that the school is not about to win in sports, so better work hard on grades. Coaching does not win games kids do, Orangefield wins with good coaches and great kids. HF has just as good coaches with average athletes. The coaches at HF are good boarding on great. Parents are and always will be the problem. Coach you left and came back for family atmosphere, that is sweet at Christmas and Graduation but it does not win and that is how HF parents measure their coaches by wins.

Please tell more. Not familiar with the politics @ small schools such as HF, but I'm learning.
Dove - I think small town politics are like being an admissions counselor at a college. Take for instance doing that job at a high end school like Rice, you would have to look over applications and make sure that the correct students were admitted based solely on who and how much the contribute. After you get those students in the you take care of the squeaky wheels and then it just goes on from there depending on how your prioritize. All in all politics on the job, on this board and at the local greasy spoon usually boil down to a love and passion which you sir are filled with. I can tell by your toothy grin ;D

I will tell you this a if mammagotjuice aint happy nobody is gonna be happy. I doubt the parents will allow the small minded community of HF run out this proud and highly successful family. Last thing if the used car salesman needs to get involved he will, his son maybe the Bosh in the LBJ/Wade trio. Two and a half men is what the HF team will be known as.
If the used car salesman's son makes up "the trio" then the Longhorns are in TROUBLE! I don't care who the other two players with a pulse are. Who is the "Half Man" ;D "Little" Big Dove, Bigger "Little" Dove, or "The Salesman's" Son :D
I'm old school. I always thought the best player who is contributing to the team should play. People contribute in different ways. Some are spark plugs and may have less talent, but bring energy to the team when needed. If he's a good coach, he will try and work it out whats best for the team.
Don't you think every coach tries to do what's best for the team. You say you've never heard of Decello but yet you think that he is just what H-F needs. I find that interesting. You are right about if he is a good coach. He will do what is best for the team even if it means the Dove family ain't happy.

He is a good basketball coach but if a certain freshman and soph. doesn't start on varsity next season, he will be thrown under the bus by "some". ;) :Decello is walking into a tough spot as the HF Longhorns are predicted to be the odds on favorites to win the state championship next season. ( that was my best stevenash ;D)
Tough spot? No he isn't. Stop fabricating stories about HF. Personally I like hard nosed coaches and don't mind the cursing.
I haven't fabricated anything, spoken nothing but truth. What I meant by "tough spot" was that all the pressure is on Decello to win a state championship this coming season. If he doesn't, it will be a total failure since a state title for next season was predicted by the "chosen" folks at HF.
I don't think anyone has predicted a state title for this year. The prediction was to win district this upcoming season. That goal is attainable. In fact, every school's goal (or should be) is to win district, right? So where is the pressure? See, here has been the problem: There were NO expectations at HF. Season starts and you play. Season ends and thats it. Same old cycle. You would probably be surprised at the number of coaches who have spoken to me, and agreed ;)
"There were NO expectations at HF." So their kids didn't want to win? Maybe some of those coaches were running down H-F to recruit the little doves.

You got HF winning the state title, not just making the playoffs. ::) All this time I thought you were somewhat of an intelligent man.
Aggie - The bar has been raised, I have been a student of the game and I know this for a fact when parents get vested with their children and their success only good things can come from that. The Manning's are the prototypical family and they have two of the three sons playing in the NFL. The Dove and other parents(used car guy) are totally vested in helping their children be excellent. Decello is at HF because of his connection to used car guy. Coach Price rubber stamped that hire so you have two families and many more that are single minded, State or Broke, that is what it takes to wake a sleeping giant from its slumber and I appreciate the efforts and commitment from these families.
How about a national title like Scam Newton. ;D
