Tomball 31 Port Neches-Groves 21/FINAL
PlayActionPass replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
This one played out about like most predicted. Good game reps for the future, but for the here and now PNG needs Shug back to make any kind of splash this season. -
I heard he was having surgery and would be out for the season. He may have more speed than McMillian, but they are both next to impossible to tackle with one man. This will be a physical match up and the difference in the game will be in the ability of the QB's to hit open receivers. Diboll should win this one because of their ability and willingness to throw the ball.

Is Orangefield that good this year, or is Shepherd down? Very impressive win for the Bobcats.

East Chamber 35 Hamshire-Fannett 13/FINAL
PlayActionPass replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
I heard that HF is having trouble with all the things they are trying to do on offense. A friend of mine who was at the game told me that HF played a number of plays with 10 men and that the receivers are rarely set when the ball is snapped. He said that in his opinion the referees should have called illegal procedure on the Longhorns more than 20 times. -
I would say the Houston 4A and the Ft. Worth (if there are still any) would be worse. But, you are correct in that this District is rather weak. If it were tea or coffee, i wouldn't drink it.

I'm a product of the '80's as well. And there may not have been as many FREAKS then, as there are today, but they were still around. And at that time, Daingerfield had more than their fair share of them. Very similar to the abundance of riches that Newton has now. The difference between then and now is that the best played both ways, all the time. And, there was a much bigger emphasis placed on defense.
-
You obviously never saw that Daingerfield team play. Go back and look at the scores. See if you can find some video of them. That team was as athletic as Newton is now, they were some FREAKS. They gave up 8 points all season. That's 16 games. And if I'm not mistaken the touchdown was a pick 6 or set up by an interception. And the other 2 points was an intentional safety.
-
Seeing the scores of both of their games against Livingston, i would say they are very comparable. Similar offensive philosophies, both team want to run the ball primarily. Orangefield is probably a little bit more physical, but Shepherd is not soft by any means. There will be some big plays. but for the most part it will be a grind it out game. Special teams may make the difference in who wins or loses this one. Obviously, penalties and turnovers could also have a huge impact.

Ok, good luck, I really do hope it works out for you like you see it.
-
And it is not like they are playing up in classification either, schedules are average at best.
-
No reason why the can't.

No, insanity is predicting a win. You can rally around your team, be supportive, be positive, predict that we will go out and compete our butt's off, that we will "fight tooth and nail." That all makes complete and total sense and is very optimistic. But to come and say that, "we will not lose," is just not real logical. IMO.
-
Your PNG buddy said "we are not losing this game." Where I come from, that is a bold prediction or proclamation. My rationale is that the best player on your team, who also happens to be your QB, is not playing. He has been the focal point of this offense since he took over as a Sophomore. He is your leading rusher as well. You have had trouble running the ball with anybody other than him. Your Offensive Line is below average this year (IMO, you are obviously missing the O-Line coach that left) and you do not have any big play receivers. The back-up QB is unproven and inexperienced and will be starting his first Varsity football game. Your defense has struggled to stop even average offenses and you wil also be missing to significant starters on that side of the ball. All of this tells me that saying "your will not lose" is a bit on the crazy side.

I know, right. I guess he doesn't realize that Newton has a TON of size on the o-line and d-line to go along with all of the great athletes they have.

Fulshear 42 Huffman Hargrave 26/FINAL
PlayActionPass replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
And to what do you attribute these problems? Is it a coaching thing? Or, does the problem run deeper? You will win at least one game, Livingston is in your district. -
Is that confidence I smell or complete insanity? How can you boldly proclaim that you are not losing this game? What about this situation lends itself to a victory? I'm not hating and I'm definitely not predicting anything.I'm just curious what your rationale is?

Fulshear 42 Huffman Hargrave 26/FINAL
PlayActionPass replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Yikes, not the start to the season that the Falcons had hoped for. How does Huffman respond? Do they improve and fix the problems or throw in the towel and start thinking about basketball. -
On the road without your starting QB probably does not bode well for PNG.
-
Silsbee has to be more balanced on Offense. The QB position has been an issue and until they settle on one and give him all the reps and balance the offense then scoring consistently will continue to be a problem.

SETXsports Week 2 - Pick 'em results

Those Fairies are know to re-visit happy hunting grounds. I think you have to use a Wicca spell or something to get rid of them. Well not quite from the Penthouse to the Outhouse, but back to being average. -
You may have very well hit the nail square on the head. I know Arledge wanted the job and would probably have been the better hire.
-
Could be, might be a case of a retire, rehire NOT being the answer. I think I might have said that a time or two on this site.
-
Never said Vanover was the answer.
