  1. I think between this post and the one above, you have made the case for why Miles should take the Coldsprings job.
  2. I'm interested to see who they hire.
  3. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Our society has gotten so SOFT!!! What a joke. Player: Mommy, mommy, coach yelled at me and he used a dirty word. Mother: Well, what did you do? Player: I didn't do nothin, he just got mad cause after 5 guys went before me, I ran the wrong route. And after the first team ran the play twice, I went with the 2nd team and I blocked the wrong guy, again. Mother: Well how dare he yell at my baby, I'm going to the Superintendent!!!
  4. I'm pretty sure they will hire a guy that has been there before. He will know what he is getting into. They have already been put behind the 8 ball with the late resignation, Broussard stuck it to them. The first year will probably be a wash, the Senior class to be was supposed to be good, but many have quit. It will be a challenge to get hose kids back out, but tghat won't be the focus. The focus will be getting the numbers up from the 11th grade on down. Fielding 3 teams would be a start, but not sure that is possible year one either. Livingston will be long term project and one not for the faint of heart.
  5. Do you live in Shepherd or Coldspring? Shepherd has had as much talent as Coldspring the past few years, that will not be the case in the future. Shepherd will lose a bunch with this Senior class, including their "Bell Cow" in Trevor Moye. They will still have a few players, but the JV was below average this year and the Jr. High was terrible. Coldspring is a better job than Shepherd for the foreseeable future.
  6. Knowing Livingston they will wait, and wait, and wait......
  7. Logic fails so many.
  8. There is more talent in Coldspring, the well in Shepherd has run dry.
  9. Winning is a relative term. Like in Livingston's case, they have been what 1-9 or 2-8 the last 4 years under Broussard? If they bring in a Bubba Arledge and he goes 5-5 and finishes 4th in district and sneaks in the playoffs then has he won?
  10. There are ZERO full-scholarships for baseball. NONE!!! If a kid is draftabale, they might receive 75%, but those are rare. Division I college baseball teams offer 11.7 scholarships, which have to be distributed among a maximum of 27 players. Some, are getting 50%, but even those are rare. And, most College Baseball Coaches prefer multi-sport athletes. There are very few "career" ending injuries and the positives of playing High School Football, far outweigh the negatives, IMO.
  11. Some people just don't get it. They don't understand that the combination of talent and coaching and circumstances have to line up to win CHAMPIONSHIPS.
  12. If I had to guess, Miles Robinson would be in the mix for this one. He is a Coldspring boy and I could see him wanting to go home. With Shepherd out of Moye's the pickings may be slim in Pirate land.
  13. Four reasons coaches leave: 1. Money 2. Adminisrtation 3. Talent (well run dry) 4. Community Support (lack there of/too much griping or complaining)
  14. Oh I agree with you 100% To win Championships, you have to be at least on equal footing. And, it always helps to have that slight competitive advantage.
  15. Level of competition, meaning in the right classification for the talent you have?
  16. Nail hit squarely on the HEAD. NO coach wins championships of any kind (District, Regional, State) without some high level talent. NO teams wins championships without a high quality coach and staff, regardless of the quality of talent. It is a marriage, both parties might NOT be EQUAL, but it takes both of them to make it successful.
  17. How many of the 170 will be Seniors? How many does he plan on keeping on Varsity? Are they going to play a JV and a Soph schedule? Will they have 3 Freshman teams?
  18. Bubba should have got the job 4 years ago and Livingston would not be in the shape they are in right now.
  19. I don't think hiring a good HEAD coach is going to be a problem. The problem is probably going to be getting good assistants at this late date. But, if Livingston hires who they should, then he will be able to assemble a decent staff his first year. The biggest problem is implementing offensive and defensive changes with only 2-a-days to do it.
  20. So very true. The concept that the name on the "FRONT" of the jersey is more important than the name on the back of the jersey, is completely foreign to today's players..
  21. This is second hand information, but from what I have been told all of the speed has graduated. Now there may be some speed walking the halls, but none in off-season
  22. Now, they might be going through football related drills during the period. And I'm sure they are. This is no contact, no pads, but the new UIL rules do allow the use of a number of "safety" items, including stand up dummies.
  23. You are correct sir.
  24. I appreciate everything you just said. And I have no idea why they can't both be good. Did anybody watch the Longhorn game last night? While Kam Fields was pitching all they talked about was 2-sport athletes. Keith Moreland (commentates on UT baseball) played both football and baseball at Texas. College Baseball coaches love the kids that play both football and baseball. High School baseball coaches should be encouraging their players to play both football and baseball, trust me, I do.
