A couple of big resignations today
PlayActionPass replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
It has become the nature of the profession. Applicants will say whatever it takes to get a job and then they after getting the job they will say what the Administration and the Community wants to hear so they can have their support. All along they are looking forward to the next, bigger, better job. I'm not saying that Mathis didn't intend on making Marshall "home" or have plans to build something great there, or that he didn't give the job and kids his total focus during the season. I think he is a good man and he was being honest when he said those things and had big plans for Marshall. But, DeSoto was his "dream" job and he probably should have never left. -

If I were a betting man, I would say bet the house on yes. -

I think you are off base here. Most coaches know they don't have the credentials to even get a sniff for either one of these two jobs. -
Overall, this is definitely the best decision for the entire town and for the kids as a whole. Now let the speculation begin, who coaches what? The BE articles says that all staff will be retained, but in what capacity? The BE article also says that there will be some duplicity, well lets see, 2 Head Football Coaches, 2 Head Basketball Coaches.......

I wasn't necessarily referring to the blending of personalities or of the kids, I don't think that will be an issue. I was more referring to the competition for playing time and change in coaching style and expectations. Because if they do the right thing and hire a coach with a pedigree of success then a lot of things will change for these kids.Combining the two programs will generate a lot of internal competition for positions and some kids may not respond well to that. As for basketball, practicing against the best everyday just makes you better. State Championships every year would be the expectation.
-
With the combined talent of Central and Ozen and a $100,00 salary, the options would be many (you would think). It would be a task to successfully blend these kids into one successful program (lots of recent failure), but the talent is there and the right coach and staff could have some quick success and it could be a long term gold mine.

i don't see how they can NOT open up every coaching position. That would have to be standard operating procedure under the circumstances.

Yes, Hancock is the HFC/AD at Rusk. He has had a good two-year run but I'm sure he is not looking forward to the possibility of being in the same district with Center and Bullard who are both dropping down. He is also graduating a very good senior class that will be hard to replace.

I understand. I would think it would be in the best interest of everybody involved if a decision was made ASAP. I know everything does not revolve around athletics, but it would be a major cluster if the decision was made after Feb. 1. IMHO, it also would not be fair to the coaches in the district. If a merger does occur then there are going to be a number of decisions that have to be made as far as coaches are concerned. I would assume the District would open up all coaching positions and take applications? This could be a long, drawn out process. I wonder if the merger does occur, who will make out the non-district schedule for the new 6A school?
-
So your JV is going to run the triple option from under center?
-
So the decision to Merge or not-to-Merge will be finalized tomorrow, January 18, 2018???
-
I would be a disaster if they made the decision after Feb. 1, I would think.
-
I'm wondering if any schedule plan he puts in place will cross the Superintendent's desk for approval? Or, it might be "tentative" waiting on the new HC/Ad's approval. This is a tough spot for them because most schedules are finalized pretty quickly after Feb. 1.
-
Don't they have to have a decision made prior to February 1 when UIL announces the new District alignments?
-
Are you referring to the true split back veer? Or veer from the wishbone? Now, if you are referring to the flexbone, then Waskom is a great source of information.
-
So is Doughty still running the off-season program and doing the day-to-day work of the AD? Is Doughty going to be the one to finalize the non-district schedule? Always an interesting dynamic when the man leaving is making he schedule for the next two years.

Like Coach T is fond of saying: "You can't win the Kentucky Derby riding a mule."

Who will be the QB for PN-G next year?
PlayActionPass replied to aki1994's topic in High School Football
Would really hate to see my QB get hurt on defense or returning a kick. If your QB has to go both ways because you don't have enough athletes or players at the 4A level then you aren't going very far in the playoffs anyway. -
Application deadline is January 28.

Do you have any insight?

I agree 100%

Hmm....

Both teams averaging over 50 points a game, probably going to be a shoot-out.
