  1. Not going to argue any of your statements MSU. But, kids have to respect the coach and really believe in what he is selling for the kids to play hard. Brown comes in with instant credibility. Kids will buy into what Brown is selling immediately. He will not have to convince kids to play or believe. It will be automatic.
  2. And your point is a valid one. But, there are a a bunch of very good FOOTBALL coaches in the area looking for the opportunity to be a head coach. Looking for the chance to put their mark on a program and build a tradition of success. Guys that if given the opportunity could build something in HJ.
  3. Scatright, you are not serious are you? Do you have any idea what kids are looking for in a coach?Kids, especially ones at Central, are not concerned with what the coach has done in 4A football. Brown can talk to kids about what it takes to play at the next level. He knows from experience as a player and a coach. Kids want to know that the coach is preparing them for the next level. That the coach is going to have the contacts with college coaches to get them scholarships. These are the things that give Brown the credibility to get the kids to participate and to "buy in" to his program. With the kids "bought in" the sky is the limit at Central. If the desire and participation is there, the talent will take over. If they hire Brown, they will win and win big quickly.
  4. My point exactly. A football coach. Not a power hungry, control motivated AD. Not necessarly a young coach or a coach looking to use HJ as a stepping stone, BUT a football coach concerned with winning football games and building a program. A COACH motivated by doing what is best for all of the kids and establishing football as priority in HJ.
  5. The truth of the matter here is that HJ might be better off putting the AD role in the hands of the basketball coach. Truly believe that they might get a better football coach if the job is head football only. This will attract only those people who are interested in making the football program better and not worried about playing politics or concerning themselves with which sport is more important. They need a guy that is not worried about what he has, but is willing to do the best with the cards he is dealt.
  6. I really think some of you are missing the point on what is best for Cental. Central kids need somebody with skins on the wall. They need somebody that has instant credibility when they walk in the door. This hire is not about X's and O's. This hire is about gettin the guy in the door that is going to be able to get the athletes to play to their potential and buy into the system. James Brown is THE guy. He will hire great coordinators that can coach the coaches and put the kids in a position to be successful.
  7. In 20-4A I truly believe you can take Nederland and Central at the top as a given. However, the next two playoff spots are totally up for grabs. PNG and Livingston tied for the JV District championship and both played some young kids on Varsity last year. LCM returns some good players and has some talent at the lower levels. Vidor will struggle to replace Quirante and a number of other graduates. Ozen always has the talent to be in the mix. Lumberton will continue to struggle.
  8. From the outside looking in, it appears that Dayton has some serious internal issues. I'm not completely convinced that the coaching staff is all on the same page. I do know that they do not get the best out of the athletes they have. Now with that being said, they will still be playing for a District Championship and an undefeated regular season when they tee it up against Summer Creek in the last game of the season. However, the real question is will they be one and done again? Can they make a run in the playoffs the way the coaching staff is now constituted?
  9. I could see Central challenging Nederland if everything falls into place in Jaguar land.
  10. JB is the cream of the crop on this list. What Central needs is someone that can inspire the kids to work and compete. JB will hire the right X & O coaches to take advantage of the abundance of talent. The HC needs to be someone that can motivate and get the kids to play. JB has the experience and accomplishments to get the kids attention. He knows what it takes to be successful and will have immediate respect from the players. If he shows confidence in his coaches, the kids will follow them. Its a simple equation.
  11. And I slept on LCM. They will be in the mix for the 3rd, 4th or 5th spot.
  12. In 20-4A, I wouldn't sleep on LCM. Lots of good young talent coming and always good size. I think they need to improve their coaching and scheme. Crouch is a great head coach, but maybe he needs to suround himself with some better assistants. If Central gets the right man in there they could easily challenge for the district title. Vidor will be down, but still competitive. Nederland will continue to be very very good. PNG should be improved and Livingston will always fight you till the end. Ozen and Lumberton probably at the bottom. Nederland Central PNG Livingston Vidor Ozen Lumberton
  13. He has the connections, don't worry about that. JB will put together a quality staff. They will all be motivators and knowledgeable in the X's and O's. They will also be solid talent evaluators that can get the kids in the right position to be successful.
  14. I really think JB is the way to go on this one. He will be able to motivate and reach these kids on a level that nobody else on that list can.
  15. So throw some names out there. Who is the next Head Jaguar? I know a guy, who knows a guy who said he knows. But, I dont know.
  16. They must have had some high profile names apply for this Peach of a job. They are keeping the names very close to the vest. Any coach spottings on campus or around town this week, maybe at the BBQ shack? I think the Dayton OC is a logical choice.
  17. Launius is a heck of a coach. If anybody can turn things around in Hemphill, John can. He does have thick skin, actually that may be an understatement.
  18. Any word on how many they are interviewing or if all have been notified?
  19. There was plenty of wiggle room in that article to suggest that Faircloth may not officially apply for the job, but if they contact him then he will discuss it. He is not going to "chase" anything. But, if he sought out by the powers that be in Odessa, I would bet a bundle that he atleast considers it. If an interview is requested, he would talk to them.
  20. Anybody hear what the school board decided last night at their secret meeting? What do they want in Liberty? Seems that they have a diverse group of kids that should be more successful than they have been recently. Are the people of Liberty open to NEW blood or are they simply going to recycle a NAME that they recognize?
  21. Don't know if he is physical enogh to play DB at the next level. But, they said that about Dustin Harris too and he has done well for himself at A&M. IMHO, Chevoski can be a play making slot reciever. He runs great routes and has great hands.
  22. The Hill is the real deal. Very talented & physical footbsll team. Best of luck next week. Continue to represnt the area & make a long run Give 'em heck!
  23. Gage is a great coach and his history bears that out. State Championships dont grow on trees.
  24. Stats, stats & more stats. Throw out your JV games and the story is much different. The battle will be won up front. Whoever wins the LOS will win this game. Not sure if Bh has as good a defense as Nederland or Dayton or Vidor, but we will see tonight. Not sure if Livingston has the offense to knock off the vaunted BH defense, but it has the tools to do it. Unique combination of power and speed in Livingston. The outcome is very much in doubt. Coaching could play a huge role in the outcome.
