I hear the team received a green participant ribbon for the year. So even though they weren't very good, they still feel like champions.

Would he treat his own daughter the same way? Oh that's right...
I don't know where you are from, and I sure hope you aren't from Vidor, but as a parent of one of these girls I think Coach Jacks is a wonderful man, coach, and to some of these girls a father figure! I wouldn't want anyone else coaching them. Sometimes those on the outside do not see the entire picture and don't know the entire situation and choose to post things through this forum that hurt individuals and team members. I know what you saw, I was there; but, that doesn't give you the right to tear down someone. Kids are on here and when you tear down their coach, you tear down their spirit. These girls love Coach Jacks and they love his style of coaching!
You obviously missed my sarcasm. I was poking fun at the ones that are bashing Coach Jacks. Sorry if I offended you or your daughter. Carry on... -

Why isn't anybody talking about the coach running up the score? They won by 75. -
What is a lot of strikeouts for a batter to have in high school?? I know in select ball we didn't care all that much so long as the player was making the pitcher earn them. After all we were encouraging them to swing just as hard as they could under control. With that you are definitely going to miss the ball at times. But even then we never had kids with more k's than games played. We always seemed to find them help and move on. What do you guys think??
I think you should leave the coaching to someone else if that's the mentality you're teaching kids.

Who will replace Barbay In Anahuac?
it is so obvious that this guy will be in & out of Anahuac within 4 years, once again our district acts as a spring board to bigger jobs. They had two choices that would have put down roots and been here a through good times and bad and stay and build program. Im sure that Coach Murr is a good coach and will do a fine job but the community had made it clear that they wanted stability, Barnhart and the board new they were not acting with the communities interest in mind because I was told that they were so proud of thier decision that they felt the need to keep his name quite and sneak him in the back door (litrerally) under the cloak of darkness to rubber stamp his hiring.
I didn't know that the community got a say in the hiring of a new AD. -
I just flipped my coin twice and both times it says Nederland sucks. That's what I think about one-game series. It is a good thing for Nederland, this way their fans only have to endure one good ole fashing ars-whipping and not 3. That's my politically correct version. ;)
Explain to me how a team can give another team 3 "ars-whippings" in a 3 game series.
It is possible to lift weights and get some skill work in as well..you have to be organized and efficient during the athletic period..WOS, I would NEVER ask a kid that is in season, to work on another sport that is OUT of season...Football coaches do not always extend that same courtesy.
Yes. You are correct about a balance, but at small schools the head coaches of non-football sports are also football coaches and his/her priority is with football during football season. The strength and conditioning program Coach Price implemented can't be as bad as you make it out to be. Could there be tweaks...probably, but considering staff, facilities, and budget the "UOS" made HF athletics better.
You have 5 football coaches, one basketball hc, one baseball head coach. If the kids don't play football your head coach gets you until you are inseason for other sports, its not that hard. You also should be able to have your kids for practice during the season, we don't even have that luxury. The coach works with the AD to keep informed of what they are doing if they need to. It's called letting your head coaches coach and build program. Sutherland had kids do cross country which is much better than running 200's during the period. Look at the schools who are consistently good in other sports andthe reason is they have the ability to start in August on skill vs Nov. Take away 2 a days and spring practice and how would your football teams do?
But if the kids are doing skill work during the athletic period, how/when will they get stronger?
I am not for certain HOW it is done at HF, but from the description of it, it seems that they require ALL kids to weight train ONE WAY, year around..If that is the case, thats not very smart. YES weight training is good for all sports, but if you do not allow SKILL DEVELOPMENT in your athletic program, YOUR OTHER sports will suffer.
Agreed but how would you organize this at a small school?
-
Perhaps your definition of being "good" is different from mine. on the 3A level, I consider WOS football "good".....Hardin Jefferson and Silsbee basketball "good"...making the playoffs is great, but as a coach my ultimate goal is to be able to contend for a state title every year...Be in the hunt...So I guess its all about perspective.
The manager of a team is like a stagecoach, he can't move unless he has the horses.

Dove and DV, I'm curious as to how you would organize the strength and conditioning program of a small 3A school, keeping in mind low budget and small staff. Everyone else believes that lifting weights is good for all. How would you do it?
