Hamshire-Fannett Coach DeCello out???
forum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
What's all this talk of horses? I thought HF was the Longhorns? to stay on topic... Good luck HF in the EC tournament as they will play tougher competition. -
Sad to see all this arguing and crying over individual awards in a team game. HJ won 1 game all year. They deserve nothing. WO-S deserves the one and only award...district champions. Bridge City and Silsbee deserve a pat on the back...playoff teams.
Saw him play on local tv at an all star game in Houston. Has very good potential for the future.
Potential for the future? I thought potential was a present thing. Are you saying he will have potential and that he has none now? -

He basically said the previous coach wasn't winning at all and the kids deserved a better coach. That's what coaching is about, WINNING! If you can't win then you can't coach! The new coach was doing a great job! He had the team winning! He just got dismissed for things off the court. How is that Doves fault? If anything he should be getting credit for helping the team win a few games! And if the school board is listening to Dove on a message board posting behind an alias (even though we all know who he is) then HF ISD has much bigger problems then the basketball coach.
False. Winning is not everything at the high school level.
Really? Tell that to those coaches who have been let go because of losing seasons. And if you have a coach at a high school and he's not instilling a overall winning attitude to his team, then maybe he/she should be re-evaluated.
And it's a shame that some decision makers make coaching decisions based solely on winning. Winning attitude... attitude being the key word. -
First let me say HF won and that this was one of the worst officiated games I have seen this year. Both teams suffered through horrible calls.
You need to get out more. -
Nederland's win over FBH was impressive, yet they should have won. They were the better team. 23 did NOTHING to help his team. He was obviously the best player on the court, but didn't work to beat the box and 1. North Shore obviously did their homework. They stalled and pulled the ball out when possible and made Nederland guard them man to man. Nederland played extremely tough in the tournament, and adding 14 and 12 has made a huge impact.

Quote from: forum on November 27, 2011, 04:01:53 PM Quote from: Michael on November 27, 2011, 03:31:06 PM First, it's an opinion so who cares who agrees... I just felt like the offense has struggled to find itself all season. Been watching high school football a long time and most 11-1 teams have stout defense (which the Dogs had until they slumped from the lumberton game on until last week) and if not a high functioning offense at least a methodical consistently productive offense. Our offense never really found a rythm all season. Blocking was not great, play calling was well, not great and there was too many situations where they were buried on third down and then somehow converted in desperate situations... That's not how truly great teams get it done.. They are methodical, and they know exactly what their game plan is and they control the pace of the game. That was never the case, we were always playing to get out of trouble. I've seen what a well oiled offensive machine looks like and the Dogs, although they played well, have a long way to go to be unbeatable in the playoffs. we are close, but not there yet. Something's gonna have to change for the better offensvely to win the whole thing. Defensively, we are close too, just stop giving up those big plays and you are as good as any defense in the state. Give me a team with that kind of defense and I'll predict them to go 3 deep into the playoffs every year. Calling it an over-achievement would be selling that team short of how good they were. I agree with you Forum. I guess Michael's expectations were too low and dont know the players on the team. I knew this group would be very good. But like he said about another post... "First, it's an opinion so who cares who agrees... "
I dont think the defense overachieved, but because of the offenses inability to consistantly move the ball without heavily relying on big plays and some very lucky moments to get them out of 3rd or 4th and long situations I would say they over achieved. They got it done and I was super excited for them, but with such talent on offense all the returning starters for next year I bet you see a lot more definite ball control and more 3rd and shorts to convert, and less of the breathless moments where the ball is being thrown from 3rd and 10+ into double and triple coverage where a little skill and a LOT of luck saved us about half of the time and the other half the ball was intercepted. Thats no slight against Carson, I thought he did a great job of managing impossible situations that he was put into by some interesting play calls that put him into 3rd and a mile. Kudos to him for making it happen in impossible sitautions.
Team game. Plain and simple.
Tough to watch our kids lose this game. The Dogs had a much more talented and flat out better team beaten, and could have won it,,, but 5 points given away,,, a Barry Switzer moment, and back to back illegal procedures on a 4th and less than a yard turned 4th and 11,,,, and to Dawsons credit a beautiful bootleg play that left the Dogs secondary in the fetal position sucking their thumbs ,,,, did em in. The kids played a fantastic game though, some great defensive stops and some clutch plays on offense to keep drives alive. In hindsight although it felt like we SHOULD have won last night,, really it was an over achievement to get this far and it was yet again a joy to watch another great season with OUR FIRST DC IN OVER 40 YEARS!!, with the best defense we have seen in over a decade.. Next season should be incredible,, Great season Dogs!!
Explain. I think most would disagree with you.

I apologize if I mis-read your email...I just this we need to support our players and coaches. Sorry
Agreed. Apology accepted. GoDogs27 apparently knows more than Spell. I apparently didn't do a good job of showing my sarcasm. Spell is one of the best defensive minds you'll find.
Keys to a Nederland win: Stay committed to the run and then when they stack the box, check off and play action over the top. Defense is doing ts thing, but Spell needs to make an adjustment for the quick two step pass to the outside. There is no reason we cant jump that for a pick 6. I know it goes without saying but the longer we control the ball, the better.
Yeah cause Spell doesn't know what he's doing.

After English, Lorimier, and Weisbrod I don't think they can compete with the big boys. -
LETS CLEAR THIS UP. i never implied ozen recruits and im not bashing dove with my comments. Believe me i would move my kid to a place were he or she would be able to succeed and then be able to move on to the next level. And i know the coaches resume at HF....yes he's a good coach i never said he was bad....and fear does motivate.....but a coach can't always be negative. I sat right behind the bench and didn't hear one positive comment. I played for a negative coach like that in college and it motivated me and not everybody is like me and so my college team suffered cause some teammates couldn't handle the negative criticism. I sure did ruffle some feathers..... people and their emotions.
Not true about everything he said being negative. I distinctly heard him say, "These chairs sure are soft," as he hit them repeatedly. Just pay a little more attention, his positive feedback just isn't as loud as his negative feedback.

NO shooters on the team...3s nor pull up jump shots. They have one big and thats all he is, they have no true PG....he left to go to university of ozen. The players play timid as if they re scared to make a mistake......THATS THE COACHE'S FAULT. Its gonna be a brutal beat down when HJ and HF face off......the horns will be hornless and neutered after that game
The coach ia a very good coach if anybody can get HF on the right track he can.It not the COACH FAULT HF will get better before dist.start.
I'm with you on this one CATMAN! Time to stop looking at the coaching now ;)
Now? Great players always make up for bad coaching.

If you'll actually listen to what he says, when he really gets to hollering it's because the players aren't in the right spot at the right time. You can't judge a coach after 4 games into the season. Yeah he's vocal, but he knows what he wants and it can't happen overnight. It seems to me that he wants his players to be physically and mentally tough first and foremost. If a kid can't take a hollering, then he needs to go to PE where everyone is good. The players did look a little timid, but that happens when a new coach comes in with a different philosophy. Give him some time. But you were right, Nederland was the better team.

Just some opinions on here is not saying they are bad coaches just some insight to try some things that we see works.
Play for 4Quarters? Not sure what game you were watching, but #10 brought the ball up the court the entire time he was in the game, and never threw the ball away. Without him bringing the ball up the court, we might lose that game on TOs and fast break points. Yes, he missed some shots that normally fall for him, but that happens. #21 is probably their best player, and i think he felt he had to do more than usual, and he tried to put everything on his shoulders. Yes, he did miss a lot of 3's, but apparently you haven't seen him or #10 play much. They both normally make a majority of their shots (wherever they are on the floor). Judging these guys by one game is not a fair assessment of their talents.
Agreed. 10 took care of the ball and pushed the floor that led to fast break points. He'll still have to get better against quicker and faster teams for Nederland to be successful.
Okay forum, you're saying way too much. We don't want too many Nederland fans knowing how they will get beaten
English and Weisbrod are good. Nederland played some man and a 1-2-2. Things any casual fan should notice.
