The bottom line from the "experts" that do this for a living: Scout: Gilbert #26 overall and #5 ranked QB Rollison n/a overall and #27 QB Rivals 150: Gilbert #18 overall and #2 ranked QB Rollison #58 overall and #7 ranked QB ESPNU 150: Gilbert #5 overall and #1 ranked QB Rollison n/a overall and #27 ranked QB These are national recruiting services and it doesn't matter if TR throws for 800 yds and 9 TD's versus Dayton its not going to change. Rollison is a very good player but hes not Garret Gilbert and thats not an insult. The immature cutdowns aren't necessary in this discussion either.

no matter what happens tommorow night Gilbert is the best HS QB in the country. averages 300 yds passing a game, has 4500 yds passing on the year with 51 TD's & only 5 INTS. Add to this hes rushed for 700 yds and 21 more TDS. Wow! I think your might be talking about something you don't know very much about... Tyrik averages 287 ypg, has 4300 yds passing on the year with 47 TD's & 15 INTs// Add to this hes rushed for 960 yds and 11 TD... On a team with a 2000 yrd rusher... WOW! You might be a little premature (probably a common problem for you) to say Gilbert is hands down the best HS QB in the country. Tyrik Rollison has a little something to say about that on Saturday. They're both great QBs and any college should be excited about either. Every ranking service out there has Gilbert rated higher so I guess none of them know either. Answer me this, how will the game tommorow change anything? If Rollison torches Dayton what does that change? I didnt dog Rollison, I said hes a hell of a player but hes not Garret Gilbert...and most if not all the real "experts" agree.

rollison is dang good but thats all coach talk, Garret Gilbert is the better QB. Dont forget the game you mentioned last year was in a driving rainstorm. Gibert is the #1 ranked QB in the nation by ESPN and #2(should be #1) in the Rivals rankings.

"Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate" Booyah. -
well considering PNG had one of the longest tenured coaches in the area I would expect the same for the new coach. No reason to think he will not be given every chance to succeed.

I know its not likely but 0% huh? If the money was compareable: * he doesn't have to compete with the 2 other BISD HS's * has better now but in the future equivalent facilities that he wouldn't have to share with the 2 other schools * playing all his district games within 30 miles of his home instead of travelling to Houston every other week * playing in front of at least 8,000 per night instead of 1000. Yeah Id say the odds are right there at 0%, who'd want that crap job in Port Neches anyway??? Stump is a former college guy...that wouldn't even be a lateral move...not knocking you, but it would have to be a step backwards! This dude is on top right now! To look at what he's done at WB and then put him at PN-G just wouldn't make sense! You need a young guy hoping to move up or another older guy looking to retire soon but has enuff juice left him in to bring the Indians back to dominance! depends on what he wants for himself and his family. If he enjoys coaching at the HS level and wants to root his family in SETX theres no way the PNG job is "a step back" from West Brook. If his ultimate desire is to move up through the ranks as high as he can get not worrying about where he ends up or how long he stays, then yes stay at the 5A job....but hes already been a "college guy" and came back close to home to coach at Kelly, something to think about.

BTW, Stump has his Masters degree.

Few Pros: * Had good offense at PNG when his son was playing QB * His players liked playing for him * If rumors are true and the new HC cant bring in his own staff Long is familiar with the current guys * from PNG so probably loves & understands the school as much as we do Few Cons: * Been there done that * a new HC but not the fresh brand new type candidate some are longing for * one great year at Kelly as HC and 1 great year as OC at PNG, besides that somewhat avg seasons * no Masters degree, so if the rules are changed for him he'll be under a microscope If hired Coach Long may turn out to be exactally what the program needs. I'm just hoping all avenues are crossed before making the decision. Ill be pulling for whoever gets the job.

I have no idea if any of this is true because I havent done the research yet but if so...how typical. It wouldnt suprise me in the least with the PNGISD board involved. You can read and decide for yourselves: Link: [Hidden Content] Link: [Hidden Content]

Amen, these people wanting Long need to stop and see who applies before you call for him. I think some might be surprised at some of the names that will apply for this attractive position. I would bet there are some pretty good coaches waiting now to see how this unfolds. Why is it so attractive, is it because of the high pay, is it because of all the athletes, or is it because of all the people that constantly bash the coach. Nice stadium and good tradition. Two positives and three negatives. you're wrong about your negatives. The pay is equivalent to most any other HS coaching position, maybe not as high but in the ballpark. Believe what you want but PNG has its fair share of athletes and the people constantly bashing the coach is not true. PNG fans arent dumb people. They know and care about PNG football so when things arent getting done from the top down they voice their opinion, thats all. HC at PNG is still one of the most attractive coaching jobs in SETX IMO and if it opens up I bet you see some pretty good names pop up interested.

pretty sure they wanted to finish the stadium, maybe next year.

Update on the PN-G coaching situation

ask Newton, WO-S or Nederland fans if they expect to make the playoffs every year and see what the answer is. PNG not making the playoffs in 20-4A when 4 teams get in is unacceptable. Call it what you want but its a reality. -

Update on the PN-G coaching situation
PNG1992 replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Things are handled no different that they ever have been. This has all started because the school board put "Discuss the duties and responsibilities of the HS Head Coach" on their agenda. That's a normal process. The school board meeting agendas have always been accessable to anyone but the difference you're noticing now is with the internet and boards like this the info is getting out to more people than ever before. Also, with Matt Burnett being one of the more tenured coaches in the area at popular school, news will spread. Noone really knows what going to happen except, the school board, the sup, & maybe MB. Its not a circus just a bunch of internet posting know it all's like us talking about it. -

See, herein lies the problem. Those that don't follow the program don't really know what his overall record is. They just assume that it is great since it's PNG and they hear about them each season, but take a look at teh real numbers. Overall 94-65 (0.591) with 6 playoff appearences. Not bad, not great either. The 0.591 winning percentage ranks him 11th on the all time PNG list for coaches. Theres been 18 HC's at PNG. But what has happened lately. Without the D. Long three years the record is: 64-58 (0.525) In the past 9 years since the state title game run: 52-40 (0.565) But that includes just three (3) winning seasons and three (3) playoff appearences (1 in the last four years). The numbers speak for themselves. Not as GREAT as everyone thinks are they! To put that into perspective, Neuman over that same period is: 119-52 (0.696) with 12 playoff appearences. Matt is a great person and good coach, but if he can't see that he needs help on the offensive side of the ball then maybe he should be replaced. I would love to see him stay and focus on defense and hire an established, imaginative OC. Just don't have any reason to believe it will happen. Nice post and good information but the blame cannot be entirely placed on Coach Burnett for the offensive problems IMO. When Long left for Kelly the PNGISD supposedly did not give him a budget to replace the OC. It was rumored he was told he had to replace him from his then current staff. The only coach that had past OC experience was Dan Welch. So it sounded like it was a tag you're it hire. I think Matt Burnett is a great guy and loves PNG as much if not more than we all do. If its time for a change I hope he has something lined up & if he stays Ill support him and the Indians as always. -

The meeting wasnt just about the fight. My wife attended the school board meeting tonight and they had a closed door session concerning the "duties & responsibilities" of the HS football coach. They said they would discuss the coaches duties, responsibilities, employment, performance, dismissal, (yes this word was used) etc etc, etc. Basically they were going to discuss it all. Coach Burnett was there but didnt go into the closed door meeting but stayed when everyone else was leaving. Take that for what its worth. We havent heard anything that came from the meeting. Im sure we'll all hear something soon enough.
