HJ also without two starters, FWIW...

Way to go Hawks! Now practice free throws so you don't keep these games so darn close!

Before the game: El Jalapeño in Sour Lake has some good Tex-Mex. Seriously. I miss it. Charra beans better than Pappasito's. The pizza place a few blocks west on 105 was pretty good, too. There was a new soul food place, Mother's, in downtown Sour Lake, near El Jalapeño-- they had good food, but I don't know if they're still in business. After the game in Sour Lake: DQ. There's been a Sonic rumored to be in the works for at least the last five years, but DQ's still got the monopoly on fast food in Sour Lake, far as I know. Of course, Big Rich's gumbo, served every year at the HJ Tournament, is Sour Lake's culinary ne plus ultra. Bon appètit, basketball peeps!

HARDIN-JEFFERSON vs. CAYUGA Broadcast/CAYUGA WINS 59-58!!

Will the tournament structure create the possibility for the Hawks to play LCM and Cayuga again? -
Any news on Grayson?

Rob, you're coming in loud and clear. Thanks! Go Hawks!
the point guard for HJ is very, VERY good. He must have attacked the basket 90% of the time when he brought it up the court... very impressive how he finds his way to the basket almost every time. He is definitely a tough challenge for those who must face him twice in district play.
Agree about Gus 100%, and he still isn't in basketball shape. When he starts knocking down that three-ball-- and ditto Grayson-- our scoring will pick up. -

I agree about the LCM student section-- they make for a great environment. I have nothing but rose petals to scatter before their feet. We need the Hawk Hecklers to return to 2007 strength. We were easily the loudest section in the Drum, that entire state tournament. We need a HH student leader again like senior Jace Deshotel that year. My favorite memory of Jace is him hurling hilarious insults at that sensitive little Hitler ref at Barber's Hill, at an 8:30 am Saturday game! The cop escorting Jace out was laughing out loud. Anyway, imagine students who would drive over to a Saturday early morning tournament game at BH. (BTW, I think Jace sells Acuras in Beaumont now, in case anyone needs a nice car...) The Hawk Hecklers need to return to that level of advocacy! -

Scotties too much for Allen County Posted by jarnold 12/5/10 9:38pm Comments 0 The Highland Community College men’s basketball team used a strong first half to hold on for an important road win over the Allen County Red Devils by the final of 73-62. The Scotties were dominating on both sides of the ball on Saturday night in building a 40-22 halftime lead. The Scotties only allowed five total field goals the entire half. In the second half, the Red Devils mounted sevel rallies that got them within nine points of the Scotties with about three minutes to play, but Highland held on for the win. “We were better overall in the first half than we had been in our previous game against Cowley,†said head coach Jerre Cole. “We have to become more of a complete team in terms of competitive intensity. We have the tools to play with anyone, but we need to learn how to play at our intensity rather than our opponents.†Freshman De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, Mich.) led the Scotties with 19 points. Freshman center Antonio Walker (Dublin, Ga.) had a solid game with 14 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, Tex.) added 13 points despite constant foul-trouble. The Scotties improved to 1-1 in Jayhawk Eastern Conference play and 8-3 overall. They next host Southeast Community College on Beatrice, Nebraska on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

Nice to read Prudhomme's playing so well, and the Hawks are bringing the D up to speed. Get downright warm and fuzzy seeing freshman PG Sammy Mitchell with 8 pts. He's Donahoe's little brother, and he's growing, and he's the future, and he might be able to spot Gus a bit already. That's one thing I worry about Gus: he only plays that one speed the entire game. If he could rest a few minutes here and there, he might be even more effective. Thanks for keeping us posted! Go Hawks!

Is Hj's "Zjori Bosha" The Best Freshman in our area??
setxslam replied to Betrayed's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'd rather see open threes and dunks created-- and made-- off teamwork than individual efforts any day. But that's just me. -

Didn't Colbert make ten 3s? That Bosha kid has a pretty rainbow shot. Gets under it well. Shot a high %, and his makes didn't touch the rim. Hope he'll gain ten pounds each year... I'm eager to see freshman Sammy Mitchell (Ryan Donahoe's little brother) playing PG for the 9th grade team. I feel same as last year: Gus is the best PG in 21-3A, and the Hawks will go as far as he takes us. Sammy will probably be the PG of the future, if his performance approaches his pedigree. HJ ain't going away any time soon. Those technicals last night were ridiculous, uncalled for, just a ref making the game more entertaining than it needed to be. -

Baldy gets the activist ref award. I heard Bosha is only 14 years old. Kid shoots a nice rainbow; made 8 deep 3s tonight. When Grayson comes back... -
Gulley Named Jayhawk Co-Player of the Week Posted by cmosher 11/29/10 8:22am Comments 0 Highland Community College sophomore Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, TX) was named the Jayhawk Conference Co-Player of the Week for November 14-21. Gulley scored a career-high 39 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 91-89 overtime road loss to Brown Mackie on Friday, Nov. 19. The following day, he scored 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting, as the Scotties rolled Hesston College by the final of 97-72. Gulley is averaging a team-high 22 points per game for the Scotties. He was joined by Independence Community College sophomore Anthony Downing for the honor. The Scotties, 7-2 overall, return to action at home on Wednesday, December 1, against Jayhawk East favorite Cowley College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

**Hardin-Jefferson at Nederland BROADCAST**
setxslam replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sounds like HJ has a lot of work to do. Great job on the broadcast, Rob and Joe. Sounds like Coach English has done a great job with his team, and with his son in particular. Congrats to Nederland, and best of luck the rest of the way.
