1. 42-31 Dogs after 3Q.  Sounds like a clusterfrack.  Let's go Hawks!
2. Rob and Joe, y'all are doing a great job!  Way to keep the time and score updated.
3. 31-24.  Gus doing work.
4. Sounds like HJ needs to turn it up a notch, and attack the rack with a little more HJ attitude.  Some things never change: we're horrible at free throws.  Well, we got 'em right where we want 'em...
5. 22-13 with 3:25 left in the half.
6. Sounds like HJ is missing Grayson pretty badly.  Down 18-5 with 6:07 left in the half-- and have not made a field goal.  C'mon, Hawks!
7. Scottie Men Split over the Weekend Posted by jarnold 11/21/10 4:12pm Comments 0 The Highland Community College men’s basketball team found life on the road tough going as they fell to Brown Mackie College before securing a lopsided victory over Hesston College. The Scotties, currently ranked 12th in NJCAA Division II, struggled to find rhythm all game on Friday night against the Brown Mackie Lions. Highland had plenty of opportunities to secure the victory late in the second half but lacked the appropriate defensive intensity and simply could not stop the Lions offensive attack. In overtime, the Scotties took a one-point lead with just 10.3 seconds to play. The Lions traveled the length of the floor and got fouled on the shot which led to a made free throw and a 92-90 Brown Mackie win. Highland was led by sophomore Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, Tex.) with 39 points. Freshman De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, Mich.) had 28 points in the loss. “We lacked focus and energy,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “It was very disappointing that we did not travel any better with such an important game on the line. We have a couple guys that we are counting on that are not competing on an appropriate level.” On Saturday, the Scotties looked to rebound with a road match-up against the Hesston College Larks. Highland came out hot in the first half and built a 46-36 halftime lead. In the second half, the Scotties dominance continued as they outscored the Larks by 15 points for a 97-72 vicotry. Upchurch and Gulley once again led the Scotties with 23 and 21 points respectively. Freshman Phil Henry (Marlton, NJ) had 19 points. “We are experiencing a lot of system slippage right now due to all the games and lack of practice,” noted Cole. “We need to take some time off and then get back to work.” The Scotties, 6-2 overall, next travel to Leavenworth, Kan., for a Monday night game against the University of St. Mary’s Junior Varsity. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
8. Wanted to be there, but didn't want to spread this wicked cold.  Hope Robert's sprain isn't bad, and everyone on all teams gets healthy ASAP.
9. Final score?  Injury report?
10. Lord, my Rockets are hard to watch this year.  Hawks won yet?
11. First freshman to start at HJ-- he's good.  Is Grayson suited up?
12. Is the Professor reffin'?  Prudhomme dunkin' on dem fools?  Gus seein' and thinkin' ok?
13. Darn it, I was hoping to hear your pbp, Zeek!
14. Scotties Ranked 12th in Nation The Highland Community College men’s basketball team is currently ranked 12th in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll. The Scotties are currently 5-1 overall. Highland next travels to Brown Mackie College on Friday, November 19 for a 7:30 tip-off. Highland will also travel to Hesston College on Saturday, November 20 for a 4:00 game.
15. Just got back to the hotel after watching Georgetown's home opener vs. Tulane at the Verizon Center (nice gym they share with the Wizards).  Though the Hoyas pretty much had this game from the get-go, I think Kris was the man of the match.  He played a very solid, efficient, all-around game, knocked down 22 points, had five rebounds, and 2 or 3 steals, maybe more of all those stats (we bolted early to beat the crowd to the Metro).  He's clearly the steadying senior influence on the Tulane squad.  He should be proud of the game he played tonight in D.C.
16. Scotties Shoot Well, Drop Seward County Posted by jarnold 11/15/10 10:42am Comments 0 The Highland Community College men’s basketball team shot a blistering 61% from the field to overcome a talented Seward County squad for a 96-90 victory in day two of the Garden City Pepsi Classic. Highland took control of the game early but never could pull away by more than six points in the first half and took a 47-44 advantage into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, the Scotties led by as many as 10 points only to see a Seward rally take a one-point lead with just over five minutes to play. In the final two minutes of action, freshmen De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, MI) and Roderick Camphor (Baltimore, MD) hit decisive three-pointers to seal the win for the Scotties. “It was a great win for our program,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “We are so young and inexperienced that it took a great challenge like this to learn how to sustain a total effort in order to win big games. It is very exciting to see the direction our program is headed.” Sophomore Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, TX) led all scorers with 25 points on eight of 10 shooting. Camphor had 24 points, while Upchurch knocked down five 3-pointers for 19 points. Sophomore Ryan Donahoe (Channelview, TX) had 10 assists for the game. The Scotties are 5-1 overall. They next travel to Brown Mackie College on Friday, November 19 for a 7:30 tip-off. Highland will also travel to Hesston College on Saturday, November 20 for a 4:00 game.
17. Thanks Zeek.  I'm planning on driving over for a few games, including in Huntsville and Austin.  In the meantime, I'll be tuning in for your webcasts!  I'll update info on Donahoe, Benard, and Gulley in this thread whenever I can find it.  Go Hawks!
18. Here we go for 2010-2011: Scottie Men Win Two, Move to 3-0 Posted by jarnold 11/7/10 10:46am Comments 0 The Highland Community College men’s basketball team won both games they played this past weekend in the Kansas City Kansas Community College Classic to move their season record to 3-0. The Scotties defeated Ottawa University Junior Varisity on Friday afternoon by the final of 107-64. On Saturday, Highland won by the final of 67-58 over North Arkansas College. “It was a good weekend for us. We were able to identify some areas that need more work and attention,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “The level of competition will continue to get tougher and we need to grow as a group with our season progresses.” Freshman De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, Mich.) led the Scotties against Ottawa with 28 points. Freshman Antonio Walker (Dublin, Ga.) had 17 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, Tex.) had 16 points while sophomore Ryan Donahoe (Channelview, Tex.) had 10 assists for the game. On Saturday, Upchurch again led all scorers with 27 points. Gulley contributed with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win. The Scotties next play at Southeast Community College in Beatrice
19. Stick a fork in it.
20. That Coach Wagner's son is a basketball player.  We gave them a pretty good run in the state semifinals a year ago, but they were three points better than us.  Surely wish we'd gotten another shot at them this year.  Maybe next year!
21. These kids were very worthy parts of the HJ tradition.  I will miss the victory cigar that was Reagan's 3-ball; the occasional offensive outbursts that Sean unleashed; Trent's rebounding, put-backs. and wall-pass give-and-goes with Sean; Blake's all-out hustle and scrappy mid-range game; Phillip's leaving it all on the court, and making it easy to break presses, even after his knee injury; and Jacoby's mongoose-quick steals, dunks, and dagger threes.  Though these kids came three points shy of making it back to Austin, they did help send their fans home happy 35 times this season.  Thanks for the memories, and all best wishes!
