I have never seen HJ beat Lufkin Hudson at Lufkin Hudson. I have never seen HJ lose to Lufkin Hudson when the game was played anywhere else. -
He to a JC with Ryan Donahoe and came back to Orange. Saw him a few months ago...Gained a lot of weight. Didn't look good.
Oh for goodness's sake, that's just sickening to read. I thought Richard Netherly had D1 potential! Can't LSC-PA salvage him?

3 Days, 16 Teams, 48 Games.......1 CHAMPION!!!

The EC vs. Huntington game had one of the best finishes I've seen at any level of basketball. A Huntington player hit a deep desperation three to force OT at the buzzer. The refs decided to put .3 seconds on the clock. So EC threw maybe the best full-court, inbounds alley-oop in the history of basketball and nearly tipped it in for the win. Man, that was a sight to behold. -
This is "Hard" for me to admit. H-J is darn good. I have to give credit where credit is due. #5 is a gamer. Kid can ball. #33 hit some clutch 3pointers. #50 and Turner did what that normally do. #10 and 20 are long and athletic. H-J really did look good last night! I was impressed. Here it is. I wanna apologize to all posters, players, and Hawkettes. Hj was impressive last night. That was a great game by the players and coaching staff. Since yall beat us twice, I guess I have to roll with yall or get rolled over :'(
Nicely done.
-
Wow, what a game. Great effort from both sides. If opponents really think the "Hawkettes [other than Jacoby Turner] suck," even after losing to HJ, well... that's fine. That's what I've always loved best about HJ basketball: our players really don't look like much walking into gyms or going through warm-ups. They just play selfless, smart, all-out-hustling basketball and find a way to win. Not just this year, either-- the Lions haven't "eaten tasty, tender Hawk meat" (I guess that means won over HJ, though it makes me a little nervous) since Sutherland left Kountze. The Hawks don't look to "dunk on dem fools," they work hard on D and play for open threes and layups. Of course, HJ only won because of the refs. That's what fans of the long and distinguished list of dunk-artist teams HJ's dispatched say, and believe. Dem fools.
-
Although that 91 team was indeed special, very special, and not just on the basketball court.
Its amazing how the refs dictated this ball game. Devin was in foul trouble all night. Like I said, Hj better retire Turners Jersey. He is a beast. The other Hawkettes SUCK! Yeah I said it...
Yep, we suck-- just not quite enough to lose to the Lions.
-
How many three-balls did our "shooter who can't shoot" knock down? I lost count. I'd trade the win for a healthy Ricossa. Get well by the playoffs, big fella! If I were starting a team, I'd pick Jacoby Turner over the entire Kountze squad. So would red2red2black2swagg, I suppose, since he's so repeatedly asserted Jacoby's all HJ's got. If that's true, it follows that Jacoby's beaten Kountze all by himself--every time he's played 'em. Gus, the best point guard in 21-3A, is improving. I got to admit, I was impressed with Kountze's swagger-- it's entertaining, and makes HJ's win that much sweeter. Ah, now to light up a big fat cigar, kick back with a cold beverage, and read my fellow fans' thoughts...
Maybe.......but the HJ/ Kountze game will not be as big of a draw as Silsbee. At Kountze HJ had more fans than Kountze did!!!
And points, too!
-
I listened to the stream of one of their games, and it sounded like they run a four-guard offense with one big. Donahoe starts at PG, Jarvis is the 2, Gulley is the 3, some kid from the Bronx is the 4, and Big Woo's the 5. Lot of southeast Texas up there. Go Scotties! Finally, it won't be misspelled if you read the Scotties "kilt" an opponent.

Wow. I can't believe what I just heard. Nice job of play-by-play, AAW! One thing you did very well was give score and time frequently, which is much appreciated. Thanks! -

Nice 100-58 HJ win against AP: Started out with a 19-0 run, coasted, let 'em back to w/in 10, and then let it rip. Jacoby with 31, without even looking to score. Blake Venable and Sean Weldon made good contributions off the bench. Grayson Sutherland, one of our "shooters who can't shoot," with five three-balls. Rico, Gus, Sean Prudhomme, and Little Will Anderson all solid. Nice job by the bomb squad to get us to 100 in the last four minutes. Aransas Pass is a better team than this score implies. They get their PG back tonight (academics), so opponents best beware. They shoot the three-ball well, even contested ones. They just had no answer for our press this afternoon. Their Coaches and players are classy. Best of luck to them the rest of their season. -
Yeah, it's not looking too good. Our locals aren't used to -11 degrees and blowing snow. Hope they are well, and adapt, and play better next semester. Here's the latest: Semester Ends with a Loss at Brown Mackie Posted by jarnold 12/10/09 11:33am Comments 0 The Highland Community College men’s basketball team fell on Wednesday night to Brown Mackie College by the final of 92-72. The Scotties trailed 40-25 at halftime after shooting an awful 25% from the field in the first half. In the second half, Highland was never able to get the lead to less than 10 points and eventually ran out of momentum. The Scotties were led by freshman Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, Tex.) with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Ryan Donahoe (Channelview, Tex.) had 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Sophomore Rashano McRae (Bronx, NY) contributed 14 points.

Gustafson's game of the year, to date. 11/12 from the FT line, and really controlled much of the game. That's the Gus I know and love! Way to go, baby! Jacoby and Rico played their normal superb games, but tonight Gus stepped up, put us on his shoulders, and said, "I got this." That was a Donahoe-like performance from 21-3A's best PG.

swagg, you wearin' me down. Our Hawkette shooters can't shoot, can't play dead in a Western, we gots no athletes, no nuthin... We don't stand a chance against your roarin' Lions. Man, we just hopin' we don't have to play y'all again and get em-bare-assed. Hawkettes, run and hide! Dem Lions hungry fo your tasty, tender, Hawk meat! Just kidding. What I really think: Kountze will put up an impressive dunk-fest... and lose to HJ. Again.

Road Games Continue to Elude Scottie Men Posted by cmosher 12/7/09 11:49am Comments 0 The road woes continue for the Highland Community College men’s basketball team with a 92-75 loss to Neosho County on Saturday. The Scotties, 4-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play, fell behind early and trailed 44-28 at the break. Highland pulled within five points with just over nine minutes to play, but a Panther surge again put the lead into double digits. Freshmen Ryan Donahoe (Channelview, Tex.) and Jarmar Gulley (Beaumont, Tex.) both fouled out and the Scotties could never mount another rally. “We were beat in every facet of the game. They played with more desire, they played harder, they made fewer mistakes, and they wanted to win more than us. It’s very disappointing,†said head coach Jerre Cole. “Our game at Brown Mackie will tell a great deal about who we are as a team.†The Scotties were led by Donahoe with 17 points and four assists. Freshman Jarvis Benard (Nome, Tex.) had 16 points, while Gulley chipped in 11 points. The Scotties’ last contest of the first semester is on the road, Wednesday, Dec. 9, against Region VI opponent Brown Mackie. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.

HJ won all five games at the AP tournament: W vs. 4A Rockport-Fulton 70-34 W vs. (3A?) Odem 89-21 W vs. 4A BH 58-55 W vs. 3A host AP 79-52 W vs. 4A Calallen 71-48 A few notes: --Nice to see Grayson Sutherland heating up that three-ball (29 pts) this morning. --Jacoby Turner is possibly the best defender 3A's ever seen, and very unselfish (to a fault, at times) on offense. --Phillip Ricossa runs the floor very well for a big. --Coach is playing a ten-man rotation, and everyone on the bench gets in most games. --Our press is getting better. --We are starting to move the ball better in half-court sets. --We still need to improve our free-throw shooting; might be starting to see the FT% climb a tiny bit. Trent Nobles is doing a good job helping us there. --Sean Prudhomme is improving all-around. Nice to see this lanky sophomore getting better each game... --Our players are great kids, a pleasure to be around. On the court, they will mess up, but they will never quit.

HJ won the tournament already. Play Calallen, a big school, tomorrow at 9 AM.
