  1. Honorable mention, and front-runner for MVP next year: Jacoby Turner. This year, my vote's for Jarvis.
  2. Trey had his foot operated on, again, this last week, and played with an open wound on the plantar surface of his foot. Apparently, this was less painful for him. He looked as good as he's ever looked, and that's pretty good. I think he's got a little something stored up for this coming Tuesday night.
  3. Great way to end it at the Hawks' Nest. Sophomore PG Garrett Gustafson played his best varsity game. Jacoby just flat-out went off. Trey was finishing all sorts of slicing and slashing drives. Ricossa scored inside. WO-S really had no answer for these four. Several bench players hit threes. Jarvis, who has scored over 2000 points in his HJ career, so far, played fine-- there was just no need for him to shoot much tonight. The team D was daunting, despite the dastardly refs, doing their worst. I've seen every varsity boys basketball game played in that gym over this past five seasons, including summer league play. What great coaches, players, and fans! Here's hoping the next gym will be all this gym has been!
  4. Baller001 and Jarvis combined for 40. Jarvis with the seven threes... Jacoby with the nice D & multiple sweet assists to Ricossa... Gus with a nice floor game... Trey and Dylan, get well soon! We got Senior Night vs. WO-S. Then we got to catch some Tiger by the tail Tuesday night!
  5. This is the fifth season of the Sutherland-Davis-Lee troika at HJ. I wish we could keep all three of them forever!
  6. Has a Sutherland-coached HJ ever lost to Orangefield?
  7. Anyway, at least our Big Three-- whichever three y'all think are the Big Three-- are still playing for a district championship.
  8. Glad to hear that about Hayes, Zeek. All the Orangefield kids seem like good kids. I liked their student section tonight. Yes, it was another off night for HJ. I think the Silsbee loss hurt our shooters' confidence levels a bit. Many missed layups and free throws-- I think we missed seven FTs in a row at one point. Too much slop, silly fouls, and turnovers. Jarvis played with a chest cold or flu-- we need to get him 100% well by playoffs!-- and still had a decent game. Missed the Hawk Hecklers-- I guess they were all at the girls' game? Kudos to Orangefield's scrappy effort, game plan, and execution.
  9. Feel better soon, AAW! Did you get a flu shot this year? Looks like it's going around now (Coach Sutherland missed Monday practice with it, I hear), and I'm wondering if this year's batch of flu shots will do any good...
  10. Too bad they had any type of incident in the stands. I love it when that gym is overflowing, and I get to stand the entire game. To think that was the last time we might play Silsbee in there... Anyway, I thought the way the cops and school officials handled the situation--especially AD Martel's announcement before the game resumed--was perfect. Nice job! I was proud of the HJ JV's effort. Blue and AD Martel (a couple of HJ people) ref'd the game. Why didn't we have refs? And where did those varsity game refs come from?
  11. Wow, I've seen the Spikes and Bailey show, and that is some fun stuff. It is rare to see a team take the first available forty-footer as their best offensive option, and see that scheme work.
  12. Congrats to Silsbee. Down 19 late, I yelled at the Hawks, "we've got 'em right where we want 'em!" Hawks made a run, stretched the game out a bit-- but too much Silsbee tonight, and not enough Jacoby, riding the pine half the game with foul trouble. I hope we're playing a little bit smarter by the time we meet again in the Regional Finals. Dylan Klages, you are my hero!
  13. Silsbee's about to see some DEFENSE like they ain't seen! The Hawks fly tonight!
  14. They had the heat on in that gym. It was a sauna. I'm surprised kids weren't cramping. WO-S played with a lot of heart, and hit several deep threes to keep it interesting late-- kind of like what I'm expecting to see from Silsbee Friday night. Jarvis had a typical Jarvis night, Trey played well in all phases of the game, and Jacoby showed his usual crazy D. Nice job on the low block, Rico! Overall, that was a good, quality, road W.
  15. I can't see how Coop has any OF player ranked ahead of Jarvis, Trey, or Jacoby. Genetic engineers couldn't snip and splice any combination of DNA from the entire OF team and come up with a player even half as good as any one of our Big Three.
  16. And I probably should have specified that she meant 28 ppg, not years of age.
  17. I just spoke to one of the stat girls. She doesn't keep a running, cumulative, ppg for the players, but her "guess" was that "Jarvis is around 28." I apologize for my hyperbole.
  18. You caught me there, AAW: I have not tracked his numbers. My impression from watching him in every game HJ has played this year is that he's likely at 30+ ppg. He's had several 40+. Anyway, he ain't garbage.
  19. Yes, he has demonstrated that 30+ ppg capability on multiple occasions. Jarvis is the only HJ player who averages 30+ for this entire season; Jacoby's got next. You'll see...
  20. There's that garbage word again...
  21. Yes, easily, without a doubt. He's also the best off-the-ball and help defender in 21-3A, and maybe the state. So he gives you that, plus 30+ ppg scoring capability. Big 3, Baby!!!
  22. That list is fine, except HJ's Big 3 are a lock for the top three spots.
  23. I'm surprised Nathan Walkup isn't getting more play. Is he injured? I saw this kid in AAU summer games, and he was the truth.
