  1. You fools! It's Orangefield's year! Nederland is messing up 21-3A.
  2. What time does the girls' game start? The varsity boys follow?
  3. Nederland flat-out beat us in every phase of the game. I have had to rationalize precious few losses, and it is my normal practice to blame a loss on the referees ;D. I can't offer that excuse this time. Nederland was way better than us Friday night. The Bulldogs played a great game, seemed like great kids with great coaching. Keep up the good work, and best of luck to y'all the rest of the way.
  4. "yeah i know it opened our eyes which need to happen, but that still doesnt ease the disapointment of the loss" See, this is what I love about you guys (HJ players): y'all are great people, and you really care. We'll all get over it. Not to minimize the pain of the loss, but this is, after all, merely preseason. Didn't we lose five games two seasons ago?
  5. "I think that the HJ coaching staff is more than capable of making the adjustments that are needed!!!!" Lazeek, you speak the truth. I was venting. My bad. baller001, an early season loss will only make us stronger.
  6. A few humble suggestions for my beloved Hawks: 1. If anyone ever throws a box-and-one on Jarvis again, get the ball in Jarvis's hands way up top and go four-flat on the baseline. There may not be a human who can prevent Jarvis from penetrating. Jarvis will force the help D and voila, someone's open. 2. Would everyone please spread the floor and move in the motion offense? 3. Be a little smarter in gambling in the press, so Phillip and Trent don't get exposed to so darn many two-on-ones and foul trouble. 4. Make your mistakes at full speed. Sprint back on D, sprint up your lane on O-- never, never hesitate to sprint; never, never get caught being a spectator. If you're too tired, raise your fist. There's no shame in that. You have to give it your all for this thing to work. 5. Every bench player needs to stay involved in the game, call out picks and encouragement, know what we're doing and what to do when inserted in the game. Be ready. 6. We are shorter than most of the teams we will play. Block out! We will have to fight like crazy for rebounds and loose balls. 7. Remember who you are. I could, unfortunately, go on and on. HJ basketball has been one of this old boy's great pleasures for years. What I saw Friday night, though, was like seeing a turd in the punch bowl and wondering, is it real? We were just not getting after it. Anyway, let's learn from that fiasco. Let's get back to playing Hawk basketball! A final suggestion: 8. Relax, smile, have fun out there.
  7. The Hecklers were in fine form last night. Our Hawks, not so much.
  8. Congratulations to Nederland, especially that #13, who came into our gym and spanked us good. Nederland shot threes and free throws well. We pretty much sucked, in just about every part of the game. I don't know what to think. That was the last thing I expected to see. Let's just hit the old reset button.
  9. Aaron Brooks is, once again, the only Rocket with a pulse tonight.
  10. I shall whip the Hawk Hecklers' AARP wing into a writhing frenzy. There will be great spewing of venomous spittle, flying dentures, intentional and incidental flatulence. I have put on ten pounds since last season, to better stomp the stands-- after Thanksgiving, I should be ready to roll. Literally.
  11. 1 Ryan Donahoe 2 Stephen Jackson 3 Earl the Pearl Evans 4 Kendrick Perkins 5 BB Davis
  12. Hudson can beat HJ True that. I saw the Lufkin Hudson team in the stands, checking us out last night. They will be worthy opponents.
  13. Ah, Bruiser, it will be good to see you!
  14. Sorry, James-- Morrison hit a three. Who else hit three(s)?
  15. I was a little worried when I saw how tall they were. Well, not really. The energy they expended in their warm-ups was truly impressive... Great gusto there, Red Devils! They were up on us by one point after one quarter; however, by the second quarter, they were very, very tired, and it was over. One of those games where Coach called off the press and played everyone quite a bit. Plenty of mistakes, but plenty of positives: --Most importantly: great hustle. The Hawks were flying around, scoring in bunches off our press, and not giving up too many easy buckets off it. --Some unselfish play on the offensive end. 1970s Knicks-style passing. --Our shorties can shoot lights out this year. With some practice and tweeks, this HJ team will live up to its poll position.
  16. If Grayson would no-guard his hair and play with uncontrollable rage, he could be very similar to the great Josh Payne. It is only a matter of time. Grayson hit a three, Sean Weldon hit a three, Jacoby hit a couple threes... Jarvis hit eight threes, some from deep--just because he could... Most impressive: Trey was 13/17 free throws!
  17. Varsity only? What time? At Huntington?
  18. Yeah in tru, Clancy "the Thug Puppy" DeJohn back on campus but still hav acadimic issues. When he outta that crack pipe TP wreck shop. 7' wingspan and 280 pounds of nasty-- NOT! Sorry guys, I didn't see anything 6'9" out there.
  19. A few thoughts from last night's debacle: I love AB, who had more points & as many rebounds as Yao, but he's more of a 2 than a 1. He's more effective as a scoring 1 when BB is running the 2 alongside him-- spaces the floor better and lets AB operate. Von Wafer is hitting 100% of his threes. Play him. Luther's done. Poor Luther has a habit of committing a turnover within one second of entering games. T-Mac needs to sit out and rehab for a while, like maybe the rest of his life. His vertical is horizontal. It's painful to watch him playing like this. Come back, Shane! Maybe Shane will help our spacing & ball & player movement, be the missing ingredient, get us going on a streak... I hope. We'd better D up and get some transition buckets, because our set offense is offering up exactly that for the other team. Coach Adelman better get these guys to buy into his system soon, or find something else that works. Like, get the ball to Yao and get back!
  20. Catman, I checked the schedule again & see HJ entertains Lufkin Hudson 12/19.
  21. Catman, I see HJ @ LC-M on 12/9?
  22. The final score was 89-72. Hawks led and built on their lead each quarter, despite generous runs of turnovers. Jarvis looked good, of course. Rico and Trent did well in the low post. Grayson Sutherland-- well, the secret is out. Did he only have five threes? I lost count. When Trey, Jacoby, Gus, et. al. join the squad, HJ is going to be good and deep. Hey, is it here or there for the Huntington game?
  23. I really admire Aaron Brooks' game. Then, after the game, I became a great admirer of his eloquence: "I didn't see what happened, I was just trying to separate Rafer. Then Shaq came barreling in, and that was my cue to get out of there." Long live Aaron Brooks!
  24. Yao and T-Mac are frustrating the heck out of this Rocket fan. I hope they get over whatever's ailing them, and Shane comes back 100%. The 2nd unit is doing ok, mostly-- AB, BB, Landry, Artest, and Hayes are at least running & hustling... If only we could get Ricky Rubio right now... Oh well, it's an awfully long season. Maybe we'll get better by playoff time.
