  1. Jacoby Turner was not named in any all-district selections. IMHO, he was the best perimeter defender in the district. Looking forward to seeing what he, Jarvis, Trey, and Co. can do next year!
  2. In addition to being great athletes, that's an impressive collection of high-character guys. Congrats to all!
  3. Hey, that was a pretty good victory dance. Maybe Coaches Sutherland, Davis, and Lee can tear off their shirts and do a little Riverdance number next year.
  4. Count me as one of the HJ people who was rooting for Silsbee. For that matter, I don't know of any HJ fans who were not rooting for Silsbee today. I would have driven over to Austin to root for Silsbee in person on Saturday. I know it hurts badly right now. Silsbee should be sad now-- and proud. Ours is a really strong 3A district, with three final fours and one state championship in the last three years, and Silsbee's cemented our rep around the state. Congratulations! BTW, the HJ underclassmen were working out the day after y'all whipped us, and have been working out every day since... See y'all next year!
  5. Yeah, but as we HJ fans learned recently, you still gotta play the game. Great job, Big Sandy! We could still have two state champs from SE TX, just like last year. Good luck to Silsbee this afternoon!
  6. In addition to winning state championships, Coach Sutherland drives the bus.
  7. Do Jacoby, Stephen, Derek, or any other Ozen seniors have college ball lined up for next year? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them.
  8. Thanks for 73 nights of driving home happy! There was not much to be sour about in Sour Lake during your reign. Go on to live good lives, and always cherish the memories you made for all of us.
  9. This was not at all what I was anticipating. I am shocked, disappointed, sad, sad, sad, sad for the kids. Today we hurt. Tomorrow we go back to work. Silsbee, congratulations. Have fun in Austin; enjoy every moment. Leave it all on the court. All of us at HJ will now be rooting for you to win a couple more games. You have earned great memories to last a lifetime!
  10. I am hoping this will be a great weekend for the Josh "the Hit Man" Payne: five rainbow threes both games.
  11. I suspect they discussed it and Coach Sutherland knew what the play was-- something we had run earlier, but with a variation-- and had Coach Davis set it up for the guys because Coach Sutherland did not have much of a voice at that point, and it was pretty loud in there.
  12. We were down 18 early and wound up beating these guys by 5 in this game last year. I surely hope we get going from the get-go this year. This last-second stuff is too intense for this old man!
  13. Early-arriving Hecklers need to sit with and root for Silsbee this one game.
  14. Jacoby, Stephen, Derek, it's your time. We're looking forward to rooting for y'all in Austin, again. Ozen 51 Yates 48
  15. I heard several of our players say, paraphrasing here, "The way the refs were letting them knock us down, I don't know how we won that game!" Ryan Weldon said, "They were like Silsbee on steroids." The way the game started off didn't look to promising for HJ: Navasota bigs "throwed" our first three shot attempts. Lots of contact, no call, all night long. The way the game's last 5:41 went didn't look too promising for HJ, either: turnovers took our 12-pt lead down to a 3-pt deficit. It was perhaps some divine intervention that no one blocked out Jacoby's put-back with 0.8 sec on the clock. That was a brilliant play HJ ran with 7 sec left, with multiple options, executed perfectly-- even Jarvis's miss was perfect, because Jacoby darted weakside for the put-back with no time left for Navasota to do anything but sigh. Congratulations to Navasota for a hard-fought game. I would not be surprised to run into them again next year, same game, same place, for a third year in a row. Dang, I hope some of our boys put on some weight before we play them again. This was easily our most physical game of the year, just like it was last year.
  16. Directions: Basically, no matter which way you're coming from on 59, take 242 west-bound past I-45, where 242 becomes College Park Drive. I think it's the 2nd stop light where you turn left. Keep left as you drive around the big fancy HS. Enter gym and scream like crazy for the Hawks. Thoroughly enjoy HJ's hard-earned victory. Drive home safely and happily.
  17. My phone knows that all eight of our losses these last two years have been because of cheating refs! ;D
  18. I surely hope it will be HJ vs. Navasota this coming Tuesday night. It'll be the very same Regional Quarterfinal game, in the very same gym, against the very same team as last year-- with the very same result, I hope. That was the best game we played last year. The Rattlers are all back and pumped up for revenge. We will have to beat them the same way we beat them last year: with crazy, all-out, full-court hustle. I'll never forget the look on their PG's face when Donahoe made that Superman dive to steal his dribble... the multiple scrums on the floor for loose balls that ended with Trey dunking two-handed, with three Rattlers hanging all over him... Colby's insane sprint/dive/crash & burn to tip the ball from behind and prevent a breakaway layup, which I thought sealed the game for us, and was probably the defensive play of the year. Yeah, we're going to need to bring that same intensity Tuesday night. If we can do that, again, all game long, no 3A team in the state can beat us.
  19. We will need the Hecklers at full strength. This will be a full-court war. The Hawks will need to fly around like crazy, all game long.
  20. C'mon Hawks! Time to get busy!
  21. All I know is that there are no coaches in the area I would rather have coaching my children than Coaches Sutherland, Davis, and Lee.
  22. OF plays out of their minds and wins. I hope.
  23. Jarvis is special, and improving each year. He is quicker and faster than people realize, routinely hits six or more threes in a row, does most of his scoring in the paint. He has more and-one threes than long-distance threes. The kid is tough, a clutch competitor. He is the best scorer in the area, and his D is stout. Yep, HJ has a chance to repeat this year-- and, with what HJ has coming back (Benard, Burrell, Turner) and coming up (a couple of skilled bigs and some fairly athletic role players), the Hawks could three-peat in 2009. Seriously. That's assuming we have all our coaches back, too. It's fun to indulge in such wishing... But, like they say, we'd better take it one game at a time. Let's just smash Sweeny tomorrow night. I'm hoping we'll put them away early, that it'll be another one of those no-press-in-the-second-half routs, and we get to see Big Robes knocking down threes at the end.
  24. Jarvis has a chance to win three straight state championships.
