Wow! How sad for those two TCH kids, and for TCH. Hope they'll rehab well and get to play at the next level. -
Can HJ Make It Back To State With Burrell?

Has anyone else noticed we're now 32-4, which is the same record we had going into last year's playoffs? -
Can HJ Make It Back To State With Burrell?
setxslam replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yep, this year and next, too, with Benard, Burrell, Turner, great teammates, and the best coaching staff and fans in the state. One game at a time, of course; but, heck yes, this squad could three-peat. -

Holy Cow, Poppa! You nailed it! Is that why Coach Sutherland screamed at Jacoby Turner not to dunk, messed him up, caused him to miss what would have been consecutive steal/dunks-- so he could tune in your spread? -

Jarvis is a quiet kid who lets his game do the talking, and tonight his game made a clear, certain statement that he is the best guard in 21-3A. Jarvis and Co. blew the game open when Silsbee made the tactical mistake of trying to play man-to-man D on us. Jarvis shredded that. We can all be proud of the effort all our Hawks put on the court tonight. To Silsbee, don't get down about this one loss. Your silver lining is that you won't have to play Navasota in your second playoff game. I am very worried about Navasota. They are all back from the team that was easily, IMHO, the most athletic team we faced in our playoff run last year. They will be eager to play us, to say the least. They have this 6'9" monster in the middle, and even he can run and jump... Anyway, what I am saying is that it is possible y'all could go farther in the playoffs than us. If that is the case we HJ folks will be rooting for you all the way. Y'all have some really classy, skilled players. Your fans need to buck up a little, though. They were pretty anemic tonight. If our Hawks were down 20, we'd be yelling at them, "OK, you've got 'em right where you want 'em, now get busy!" We sure as heck would not be filing for the exits. Good luck the rest of the way, Tigers, until we meet again. -
*HJ vs. Silsbee Friday Predictions???*

Yeah, that might have been nearly the best we played, and it came at a good time. There were four games this year in which I seriously think we might have scored 200 points, had coach not called off the press in the first half, said to heck with sportsmanship, and put it to 'em the entire game: 106-47 over Commerce, 109-40 over BC, 114-35 over Kirbyville, and our last game, the 109-50 over HF. Our press was just devastating in these games. The Commerce win was a real laugher because they had some pretty long, athletic kids who looked at our little players and asked some of them, "Are y'all missing anybody?" Our guys said, "Nope, it's just us," and then went out and did what they did. The Commerce coach actually asked our coaches not to call off the press, because he was going to use it as a teaching tool; but Coach Sutherland called it off, wisely, I think. Our best game might have been the 66-55 win over #1 Tyler-Chapel Hill. If we can play like that every game the rest of the way, we will repeat as state champs. -
Hardin-Jefferson 91' vs Hardin Jefferson 07'

There is a chance Donahoe would simply will the 2007 squad to victory. Oddsmakers would probably give the 1991 champs a pretty good cushion, though, just looking at the numbers. -
Congratulations to Coach Jeff Lee and his High-Flying 9th Grade Hawks on their undefeated season. Great job, guys! Y'all will take the winning Hawk tradition to the new campus & gym in a couple years... Keep up the good work!

**HJ 109 HF 59 FINAL/COMMENTS**

Correct final score: 109-50. Great way to go out on senior night. Everyone played great, unselfish ball, and brought the defensive intensity we're going to need in the weeks ahead. Almost every Hawk-- and Big Robes showed it was no fluke!-- hit at least one three-ball, and every Hawk scored. Surely was nice to see Trey playing aggressively and well, and dunking that basketball. -
The Hecklers are easily the best student section in Texas HS basketball. I get a big kick out of their antics; then I get to bask in the afterglow of HJ victories for days as I read all these childish cries of the vanquished, and the lamentations of their women. Keep doing what you do, Hecklers, all the way to Austin!
-
I was amazed how Coach Davis was able to coax 7 kids-- and no PGs-- to just keep on winning. Great job, Coach and players! Y'all hit the weights hard and keep on ballin'!
-
Thank you Tigers12, and same to you.
-
Congratulations to the Hawk players, coaches, and fans. Now let's all step it up a notch, end the regular season with 32 wins, and win a second straight state championship! Like we know: you've got to want it to win it. We will now prove we want it more than anyone else!

Game 3: Hardin Jefferson vs Silsbee ( If necessary)
setxslam replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think OF is going to pull the upset off, finally, at home tomorrow night. If that happens, HJ might not get a chance to play Silsbee again this year. It is also possible that HJ will play Silsbee at the Montagne event, and maybe also in the playoffs. With Trey Burrell and Elliot Deshotel back on board, HJ will beat Silsbee by double digits again. -
OF 47 Sils 46
-
If BC beats HJ, I would take that as a sign of impending apocalypse.
-
Yeah Poppa, Jarvis had 36 at home against Jasper. Up in Jasper he had 39-- that first half he had eight 3s; he was hotter than Jason McElwain.
-
21-3A: Jarvis Benard. As much as all of us HJ fans were admiring the shooting of Bailey and Spikes the other night, we should have pointed out that Jarvis outscored both of them.
