  1. I have not seen a 3-pt shooting display like that in hs ball. That was incredible. Looked like we switched to a triangle-and-2 to push Bailey and Spikes farther out-- and they were still making some of those forty+ footers. If they can shoot like that again at home, I doubt Silsbee will be able to withstand such a barrage.
  2. Nice recap, Master T. Congrats to Silsbee on a hard-fought W! I surely wish my Hawks were a little more focused on the free throw line. Those two missed technical FTs to start the game wound up being our margin of loss-- of course, you could pick any other two missed FTs (we had so darn many to choose from!)-- and sort of gave me a bad feeling at the start.
  3. Moten is not starting???
  4. WO-S played the best I've seen them play this year. Their hustle and ball movement was great. Dennis can score the ball. They looked like they wanted and intended to win this game. It actually was the worst HJ has played this year-- by a wide margin. We were throwing outlet passes to the other team, missing shots we normally make, and, worst of all, not bringing any intensity on D. It was horrible to watch. I could not believe we won. There is no way the HJ I was seeing last night would win at Silsbee, at Orangefield, or maybe even at home againt Jasper. On the brighter side, there is a reason we are now 26-3-- if the Hawks will remember that reason, then we are capable of winning the rest of our district and playoff games, big.
  5. Jarvis was sick, and played less than great. Everyone needs to get well and step it up.
  6. I know Paul Sims' character is impeccable. For him to get ejected from a game tells me something was wrong.
  7. 83-40 was the final score. Another no-press-in-the-second-half game. HJ looked like they were not really interested in competing in the first Q tonight; but I had faith that Coach would, uh, inspire them! Ricossa and JMike had good all-around games, Jacoby Turner had a bunch of steals (I loved when he ran up the wall, trying to save a loose ball; he looked like he might go Spiderman and keep right on running up to the ceiling!) and finishes, Jarvis was great. We miss you, Trey-- get well soon!
  8. Trey's injury was accidental. He'll be back, faster and stronger than ever, come playoffs. Maybe he can finally completely heal his football injuries. In the meantime, Ricossa, Fontenot, Turner, Deshotel, and all the other Hawks will be filling in and winning for him.
  9. Jarvis Benard has been consistently amazing.
  10. All the Hawks-- and Hawk Hecklers-- will need to step it up, and will do so.
  11. HJ vs. St. Thomas. Colby Sundgren's corner 3 to tie it went 3/4 in the basket and came out after the horn sounded.
  12. Yes, I have seen Joseph and Moten do stuff that would easily win NBA Slam Dunk Championships.  Stephen's got some gymnastics background: he can be standing there, flat-footed, jump up and do a complete flip in the air, forwards or backwards, and land with his feet in the very same spot.  Since he never changes  expression-- always has that little smile-- you could look away for a second and never know what he'd just done.  I fear he might try to do a vertical 360 dunk one day, like those kids do at Rockets games, but without the trampoline.  Keep it real, guys!  See y'all in Austin...  Again! I've seen Trey get up just as high, in games, but he does not have the green light for showboating, creative stuff-- and I'm glad for that, because I've seen idiots puposefully try to take our (HJ) breakaway guys out from behind, even undercut them while they're up there.  FWIW, Trey can get his shoulder above the rim.
  13. I am very proud of the WB SLAM alumnae: Man-Beast, Chu-Man, Sam G, Thug Life.  Hope we're all in Austin, and still playing HS basketball, in March!
  14. Anyone know where this game is being played?
  15. Trey had been sick in bed all week, which took at least a foot off his vertical last night. Hopefully he'll be well-- and the rest of the Hawks will be well-- for the next round of district play.
  16. Ricossa was our only varsity post tonight, and he played a great game. Jarvis and J-Mike and Jacoby had great games. Trey played great, but you could tell he wasn't 100%. Everyone else had some nice moments. We weren't flying around on our press rotations or jumping the passing lanes like we normally do-- just didn't have the energy for it. It's been a tough week of illnesses. Get well, Hawks! Nice job passing and shooting the ball, Orangefield. Y'all play smart, disciplined, and patient-- the kind of ball that gives us fits. Good game.
  17. All Lumberton needs is four more Jon Wards.
  18. Jarvis had 7 or 8 3s in the first half last night.
  19. I'll second that: Kevin Bland.
  20. We beat Jasper 77-55 in the EC Tournament, so the question is: can their home court be worth 22 points? As long as we don't let down, after the emotion of that fourth quarter last night, we'll be fine. Sometimes we start games like we're trying to mail it in, simply because we know we're better than the other team and we're supposed to win... I hope we start this game with a 30-0 run, and we get to see G-Money, Elliot, and Big Robes getting major minutes and raining threes!
  21. Silsbee has two really skilled guards. They're excellent shooters. HJ has its skills; but, more importantly, HJ has a bunch of kids who will dive on the floor. Jarvis is incredible. And Trey... Trey looks like he could dunk a ref. J-Mike has been looking to score more and more aggressively, and that's a very good thing, because he's darn near unstoppable when he's taking it to the basket. I'm very proud of the hustle Jarvis, Trey, Sundgren, Payne, Fontenot, Ricossa, Turner, and Weldon showed, as always. Nice fourth quarter, Hawks. I will never forget seeing one of Coach Sutherland's state championship rings sailing and sparkling across the court while the Hecklers were singing that stupid (but exquisitely obnoxious) "We Are The Champions" song to the early-departing Silsbee fans. Now that's entertainment! Nice night for HJ basketball: a 9th grade, JV, and Varsity sweep.
  22. Colby was home throwing up two days ago. Sure hope he's better! Also hope the threes are raining for the Hawks tonight!
  23. The games are at 4:30, 6:00, and 7:30.
  24. I heard the 9th grade game starts at 4:30...
  25. Great, hard-fought win for the Bucs, great effort, good job. Not the outcome I was expecting or hoping for. Y'all are a classy bunch of players, coaches, and fans. Best of luck the rest of the way!
