No kidding, we were amazed by the video quality, and the commentary quality, of that live Ustream. Hope whoever's doing that will continue with it! It was better than Bill Worrell and Clyde Drexler on Fox Sports Houston's Rockets broadcasts-- of course, that's not saying much. Go Hawks! -

We just watched a live stream of this game on Ustream. The two HJ kids who called the game did an outstanding job. Send the tape to ESPN! -

It's hard to call plays against HJ's D. It's like trying to impose order on utter mayhem. Good luck with that! -

HCC’s Gulley Signs with Bears Posted by cmosher 04/19/11 9:04am After leading the Highland Community College men’s basketball team to its first ever appearance in the National Tournament, two-time NJCAA All-American Jarmar Gulley has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bears of Missouri State University. Recruited by then MSU head coach Counzo Martin who left MSU for the University of Tennessee, Gulley was the first student athlete signed by new Bears coach Paul Lusk, a former assistant coach at Purdue. A 6’4†guard who has a strong all around game, Gulley came to Highland from Beaumont, TX where he was known by Scottie Head Coach Jerre Cole, who was at Lamar University at the time. While at HCC, Gulley became the College’s all-time leading scorer and earned numerous honors in addition to his All-American achievements. Ranked by JucoJunction.com as being in the top fifty best recruits on the community college level, Gulley averaged 23.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 2.3 assists per game for the Scotties.

Donahoe Inks with the Bulldogs Posted by cmosher 05/2/11 9:15am Highland Community College sophomore point guard Ryan Donahoe (Sour Lake, Tex.) has signed an NCAA Division II National Letter of Intent with Southwestern Oklahoma State University to play men’s basketball for the Bulldogs. A two-year starter for the Scotties, Donahoe led Highland to their first-ever Region VI D-II and District II Championships as well as their first National Tournament berth. He led the Scotties in 2010-11 with 211 assists or 5.8 per game. Donahoe was honored as an All-Region VI D-II selection for the second straight season. Southwestern Oklahoma State is located in Weatherford, Okla. The Bulldogs were 16-13 overall this past season.

Men's National Tournament Run Ends Posted by cmosher 03/18/11 1:00pm The HCC men's basketball team first run in the National Tournament came to an end with a 69-79 loss to St. Louis Community College - Meramec. So that's a wrap. I was unable to watch the live stream and don't have stats for this final game. Locals Gulley and Donahoe had two great years of basketball up there in the frozen north. Hope they'll both be playing somewhere a lot balmier next year-- like Beaumont! Looking forward to watching Jarvis play the point for Highland next season. As always, in closing, I wish you Love, Peace, and... Go Hawks!

Who will be the new head Cardinal?
setxslam replied to Chester86's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
As I posted back in January: I wish the Sutherland/Davis/Lee trio could stay together at HJ forever. I'm biased, but I believe they've set the standard for small-school high school coaching. They work beautifully together. Their successes are so much more than wins and losses... That said, if they ever break it up, LU would be foolish not to give Clay Davis a shot. He's a bright, young, energetic, LU alum. Great communicator, both teaching in practice and on-the-spot during critical time-outs. Heck, he teaches Communications class! Relates well to and gets the best out of almost any basketball player. Would be a strong recruiter, a draw to the LU program by himself. I could see a return to national prominence for LU with Clay Davis coaching. This is my humble opinion, and an opinion shared by his players. -
I watched most of the game.........would love to see Donahoe and Gulley wearing a LAMAR jersey next season!!!!
AMEN!

Kirkwood defeats Highland 72-59 in Highland's first NJCAA National Tournament appearance. Gulley laid a goose-egg in the first half, then went Beast Mode for 20 second-half points. Donahoe (7 pts) should have looked to score more, because his teammates were missing all his assists. Apparently Highland gets to play again Thursday.
