6-1 Nederland in the 4th now
-
They sure could be...I believe they combined for 47 points and 29 rebounds against Ozen Friday night...they were pretty dominant inside in that game
-
yeah, soulja, he and forney are both juniors along with Chris Cunningham...Nederland will have quite a few players returning next year.
-
Kelvin Smith of Nederland should figure in the mix as well.

Ozen & Nederland co-district champs.....
Razor replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
if you were to check the district hand book or bylaws you would have noticed that if ozen and nederland had flipped a coin then both of them would be co champs. since they are playing the game it is for the district championship. so there you have it the district champs will be the winner of tonights contest.
guess that means Dogs are district champs then -
I think that is a fair, unbiased assessment from Kelly adn that is certainly what the records over 4 games this season would indicate, which is truly the best measure.
-
Roughrider is correct on that count...Raines moved to Nedeland prior to the beginning of his 7th grade year
-
...as compared to the crack officiating crew they had for the game at Ozen??? who was it? the ex BISD AD and a BISD coach after it was found out the officials for the game were not booked and it started 45 minutes late...you are entitled to your opinion, but Ozen would not beat Nederland 8/10 on a neutral site...Nederland's first win over Ozen was without a starter as well
-
OF was pretty solid as well...Livingston and Central had pretty decent teams as well along with Memorial and WB...keep in mind that these are only teams that I have seen first hand as Nederland opponents...Livingston could have been even better but they have a freshman who played varsity this year...Nederland did play HJ early in the season, but that game was a total blowout...not sure if HJ was missing some players, but the margin was for sure over 40 if not more...clearly from the games I saw this season, Nederland and Ozen had the best freshmen teams in the area, far and away...both only had 2 losses each and they were to each other...they are too evenly matched to clearly say that one is better than the other...IMO, if they play 10 times, it is 5-5.

PNG had spring ball in May last year...not sure about this year...I also know that Nederland will not have Spring football this year and will opt for the extra week at the beginning of next season

I am hearing the winner gets Barbers Hill and the loser will play Kingwood Park...feel free to correct me, but I believe this is right -
Central @ PN-G Updates... Indians Pulled away
Razor replied to BMTSoulja1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
diesel, I will have to disagree with you and say that the Smith kid from Central is a player and only a sophmore at that...very rarely do you see kids at this level be able to create their own shots as well as he does...the kid can flat play and he will be one of the best, if not the best in the area over the next couple of seasons. -
Ozen Freshman team is the best freshman team in this area...District Champs 20-2
Nederland's freshmen group has an argument there...they are CO DISTRICT champs with Ozen by the way and finished the season at 31-2...Nederland and Ozen split on the season at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in district...the only lopsided game of the four was Nederland's first win by over 20 against Ozen early in the year...Ozen has a great team, but to say they are clearly the best freshman team in the area without doubt is highly debatable
-
Remember guys, these are "scrimmages" so I wouldn't put too much stock in the results but more so on how the regulars look...
-
Should win the last two but the Dogs need to not take anything for granted plus they want to be playing well going into the playoffs...besides an 11-3 district ledger would look pretty impressive...this has been a pretty amazing year for Nederland and I for one, would certainly like to see it continue for a while.
-
You could say the same thing for many other schools as well who somehow manage to have successful programs
-
Did you guys know that a kid that plays basketball at PNG does not attend basketball athletics during the day if he is also a football player? A kid that plays football must go to football athletics even if he participates in another sport. that means for example that on Game day During the 1 and 1/2 hour athletic period the complete basketball team cannot even get together to oh say run through plays or talk about the defenses that will be needed that evening etc. It also means that a kid who may be playing both sports is working out with weights during basketball season. What do you think that does for his shooting consistency? No wonder our shooting percentages look to be low.
You can't use this as an excuse...the same situation exists at Nederland and many other schools as well.

Have your read my game analysis, Razor?
Soulja, I did and I think you hit it pretty well...wish I would have thought about it, we could have met...the Smith kid from Central is and will continue to be a real good player...he has the rare ability at this level to create his own shot...Nederland was horrible at the line last night until the end, when it mattered and Nederland's defense was very solid, particularly in the second half. As for the refs, I cannot say that this was a well called game and it cut both ways...I hate it when a ref makes it seem like we are there to watch them rather than the kids...one in particular was too much of a grandstander for my liking and loved drawing attention to himself...give some guys a whistle and they seem to think they are a king or something...enough of a rant from me but i hope I never see that guy again. -

Nederland 66 Livingston 56 Final
Razor replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Close game in first hafl that saw Dogs up by as much as 9 only to see Livingston finish with a 12-0 run...strong 3rd for Livingston but Dogs came thru when it counted with and inspired 4th...great free throw shooting down the stretch, especially from Cunnigham...several guys stepped up tonight with solid games...great effort and big road win for the Dogs...officiating was, well, I will not say anymore...one of the refs in particular must have thought we were there to watch him as he probably called 100 fouls in three games...mostly ticky tacky stuff and then allow Forney to be completely mugged underneath in the varsity game...granted, bad calls both ways -

no big shock here...I have always felt that coming clean earns you more respect...he has done this now and it is time to move on...I suspect that 70-80% of MLB players during the 90s were juicing...they bear some of the blame as does the league itself for doing absolutely nothing to stop it...think about it, if you are competing for a job with someone who is taking juice and you are not and one of you is going home after spring training and there are no rules against it, would you take steriods? MLB should have stepped in, they didn't and now it's over...time to move on because you cannot change the past, only learn from it.

@ Nederland 57, LC-M 49 - F
Razor replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
he made a pretty big one against png...forney was overpowering inside against lcm and Kelvin Smith played huge when he came in as well...Dogs had a huge third period to make what was a close game at the half into not much of a contest...as mentioned before, Nederland was up about 20 with 2 minutes left when the starters were pulled...Dogs have Central on Tuesday which should be a real good one.
