Nederland C O Wilson vs. Groves MS Braves
Razor replied to big_james's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
CO plays Vidor tomorrow in Nederland...it is disappointing that CO and Lumberton will not get to play...that game I feel would have been for the district championship...this group of CO kids has just been pretty dominating the past two years...they beat groves last week 46-0 and groves had NO first downs... -
Vidor, Central, and Lumberton all have the potential to be tougher games than the PNG game was...fact is, Nederland played well that night and that is the challenge, continuing to play well every week...it is much harder than it sounds...an off night against anyone in the district could spell trouble...I think the district is loaded with parity with most teams being able to beat any other on any given night.
-
Nobody is gonna give in, Soulja and that is what makes this rivalry so great! For this year anyway, Nederland has braggin rights for now...next year, we'll see...this game was great, but it is over and both teams need to focus on the remainder of the season...the goal now is to get into the playoffs and hang around for as long as possible.
-
Glad to hear you are doing well, yankee dawg.
-
james, people usually look backwards when they have nothing to look forward to
-
and all I know is that in the last 15 years, I would rather have Nederland's won-loss record in the rivalry and playoff history compared to PNG's...both are great programs, but the notion of either being envious of the other is a bit ludicrous to me...only someone who can't come to terms with getting beat this year would come up with something like that.

Wrong. We beat yall in 2002 and 2003 (Suggs era) true. MC dodged the maroon bullet in 2005 thanks to Rita and we crushed yall like a can in 2006 (under Stowers). Point is that we seem to have yall's number no matter who is at the helm... I will give you that Central has had Nederland's number more often than not, Soulja, but if you are going to bring up history, then don't leave last season out...Nederland laid a pretty good thumpin on your Jags last year...granted, that was not one of Central's best teams, but nor was it one of Nederland's best...this years game will be huge and I think a much more hotly contested game...Central appers to be on a roll now. First things first, though...both teams have important games this Friday. You're good. That is why I didn't mention last years team. And I agree that last year's Bulldog team wasn't one of your best. yall did smash us pretty good there in the first half. Hey, we did crank it up a notch and held that offense to 3 points in the second half. I just hope that both teams win in order to set up that district unbeaten showdown! As do I...you know I got to keep you honest there Soulja! This year's game should be a real good one IMO...both teams seem to be playing real well and both will be well prepared for sure.

To their credit, PNG has not been blaming the outcome of the game on officials...there has been discussion about some questionable calls, but I will give them this much credit...they seem to always mention somewhere in the post that Nederland did in fact outplay PNG. Did someone mention Lumberton?
-
Unless something has changed that I am not aware of, the holding/unsportmanlike combo was handled completey incorrectly, however Nederland's decision to accept/decline was based on how the decision to enforce was going to be handled...IMO PNG lost a down they shouldn't have and some yardage on that play as well...would the outcome of the game have been different...no, but that was mishandled. I did not see the two late hit references well because they happened on the PNG side and I did not have a good point of reference there...maybe I'll catch that on TV later this week. The no call on the fair catch was the right "no call"...Nederland's player was clearly blocked into the receiver and I believe this was the reason for the flag being waved off...this is one that I could see clearly as it happened near our sideline.
-
Glad you were modest!!

Last week was only only one game, but if it is an indication of things to come, Nederland is far from the same team as last year...last year, we had no running game to speak of and this year, we appear to have found one...the O-line showed great improvement last week and now that Grogan knows he is the man at RB, I believe he will continue to be a force...the passing game was good last year and is at least as good this year if not better...the key for Nederland will be the play of the D.

According to the paper, you are pretty close to right, bigdog...it showed Ozen with 64 total yards rushing

Nederland vs. Ozen Tue. Sept. 30 Predictions?
Razor replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hmm? -
Nederland gave up 284 yards to Ozen and I would venture to guess that most of those yards were after Nederland jumped out to a 28-7 lead...Ozen had the two scores after the game was pretty much (although not completely) out of hand and they accumulated some yards there...Nederland's D was much improved from previous weeks and I don't want to hear that Ozen isn't any good because all we heard before the game was how fast and talented Ozen was and how Nederland would have little or no chance of stopping all that firepower.

That's what you call a bad start, but hey, it's early cwade and there is still time to make adjustments. -
Good point penny...spread does not equal throw (see West Virginia under Rich Rodriguez)...Grogan had 28 carries last week against Ozen and we ran for more yardage than we threw for, although the attack was pretty balanced, which I think is great...I was really pleased to see the improvement in the run blocking for Nederland, particularly against what was a large D-line for Ozen...Nederland was clearly the smaller team, but pretty much had its way up front...we did not see this last year and that is why we were a predominantly throwing team...it was our only option...last week is only one game, but it appears the Dogs are headed in the right direction with being able to implement a balanced offensive attack.
-
Grogan ran wild because Ozen refused to commit to stopping the run by doubling Cardenas and often times Brady...if PNG focuses on stopping the new found ground game, then you leave Cardenas, Brady, Salenga, Vidrine in single coverage...this is a battle I think Nederland wins...the concern for Nederland will again be on defense and stopping PNGs ground game...the D was much improved and showed much more aggressiveness last week against Ozen, but certainly PNG will provide a much tougher and different type of test than Ozen. For what it's worth...Dogs 27, PNG 21
-
Balance is key no matter what the formation is...Nederland desperately needed to develop a running game...I believe they definitely found it last night...the mix between pass and run was a big key to Nederland's offensive success last night
-
You have to understand that ALL of the teams in the area haven't been practicing too long after the hurricane put a two week damper on everybody. I would say that over 400 yards of offense is impressive no matter who you play. I don't know who you root for, but if it's LCM I would think anything would impress you. If that is the case scalp 'em, then you should be impressed with Nederland as well as they had 400 yards of offense last night as well...i would venture to say that Ozen is better than LCM, although I have not seen LCM...MCM will be it's usual, highly competetive game.
-
Lordy, it's about time...this is way overdue!
-
Better bring your lunch pail to bring Grogan down...he is a load and has good speed to boot...Nederlands run blocking tonight was dramatically improved as was the defense
-
*Nederland vs. Ozen.....NEDERLAND WINS 31-22*
Razor replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Dogs looked much better tonight...they improved in the areas they needed to...that being the running game and tackling...much better on both fronts this week
