1. Pretty sure that the comment was not made by a player or parent of a player "who did not play Babe Ruth this past year" as you put it, but I agree with you all the same. This year's group had a good run and should be congratulated for their efforts. To say that something is wrong if Nederland does not win state every year is off target IMO. This year's 13s represented their city and league well. Maybe next year's results will be different, but we won't know that until next year.
2. To me, the key word here is scrimmage...i don't really see what the big deal is with these 2 scrimmaging each other...both teams will or should be trying things that they may or may not try in a real game, plus they will probably be evaluating players who may or may not see much playing time during the regualr season...the result of a scrimmage is a moot point IMO.
3. uh, blue...try something else with winning...it's called modesty and humility...especially if you have won once in 40 something years...make a habit of it before becoming too obnoxious
4. I do not believe they have a website...i did hear that the board will have quite a few new faces this coming year...i would be interested in fall ball info as well
5. Nederland showed an inability to run the ball last season...i think that will improve this year somewhat
6. I think Nederland will be very potent offensively, but who will step up on D? I look for the Dogs to hang a bunch of points up this season...I also look for Central to return to form this year and for PNG to be in the mix as well with Tatum at QB...i also look for Lumberton to be in the mix for years to come. 1. Nederland 2. Central 3. PNG 4. Lumberton 5. Livingston 6. Ozen 7. Vidor 8. LCM
7. lol...u may be right about being the new and improved, but remember the original wasn't that great to begin with...lol!! I fully suspect Lumberton to be solid for years to come, although last years team was special and probably better than the one they will field this year, but only time will tell...Lumberton has a strong youth program and some good looking kids coming up in the next several years...i don't see them being the pushovers of the past for quite some time to come...they will be in the mix year in and year out
8. You are correct on that count, bluedove...to be the best, you have to play the best and Brian is doing that...this validates my previous point about Brian doing things in this program that were never done before...the results will follow
9. Boy, penny, you hit that nail on the head...I don't think any community would like to be judged solely on the actions of their biggest knuckleheads...we have our fair share in Nederland, but so does every one else...sounds to me like someone is trying to live a bit too vicariously through their 12 year old son...let the boys play ball, have fun, compete with every thing in 'em, and may the best team win
10. Great job, 11U Riders!!! Congrats on the win over an impressive field. Troy and his coaches do a great job with these kids. They are a great bunch of kids as well. Good luck at the WS.
11. I did make several Nederland games last year and here is my two cents...this particular group has talent, but they need to learn how to play together...to say they haven't been close to the playoffs is incorrect as well...this team had a legitimate shot to make it last year, but fell apart down the stretch...English has made Nederland basketball much better, it just had a long way to go from where it was...that is not a knock on anyone, but simply put, basketball was not relevant at Nederland at all until Brian came over...now it is, and I suspect that you will see Nederland in the playoffs very soon...English knows how to build a program and he realizes that you have to start by generating interest in the game and program and getting the younger kids playing as well...this never happened before in Nederland, but I would venture to say that there are more kids in Nederland playing basketball than ever before and that is from age 7/8 on up. The player to watch IMO next year is Forney...he will be a soph, but the kid has HUGE potential...if they can put team above self next year, and I know Brian is preaching that, then they will be pretty good next year and, I suspect, in the playoffs. English is definitely the right guy for Nederland basketball...just remember, that his job is a very long climb to the top from where it was...he will get them there!
12. I have a feeling beard will do a fine job of that...especially with the added speed he will bring. I think that Hanna will get the majority of the carries this year because Lumberton can't afford to take Beard out on defense. And not to mention that Hanna is a 215lbs guy that runs a legit 4.6. Don't get me wrong, I think Coach C did a GREAT job with our boys last year, but I don't think he used Hanna to his full advantage... Razor08, be careful using my name...pounce/titan will end up hating your guts...lol How is Lumberton going to be up front this year? Their O and D lines really impressed me last year and I was curious about how many of those kids are returning
13. unlv, it is time to get on the bandwagon or get out of the way...he is the coach and no amount of your complaining will change that...anything negative you say at this point is simply detrimental to the program...be a winner and make the most out of the situation at hand. I for one have been impressed with his attitude early on...IMO attitude is the single most important characteristic a good leader must have...he seems to have it, so I don't really care what his experience level is...i wish him well and will support the program.
14. Wow!! What a comeback. Losing the first game would have made the track to the championship very difficult.
15. So far, I am very impressed...the guy speaks like a winner and that attitude alone makes me feel good about the hire...this will not be an easy process, making LU footbal successful, but I like what I am hearing about and from the guy they chose to lead the ship.
16. Whether you agree with the decision or not, it is time to put that behind you and start supporting the program...lack of support is why this thing failed the last time...i personally cannot wait for the ball to get rolling and wish Coach Woodard or whoever gets the job the best of luck...can't wait to see some LU football
17. I could see that happening...the kid has some out and out speed as evidenced by his showings in track this season
18. CO and LC's 7th grade A teams played last night in the battle of 2 undefeated teams... Great game by both teams... LC is a very big and talented team and CO was short one of their starters but they did manage to beat LC in a tight one by a 34-31 count...I would think both programs have something to look forward to in the coming years.
19. CO handled Mauriceville by a large margin, 58-19 or something like that. They also played 3 games this weekend in the Nederland tournament and won all three with wins over St. Anne's, Port Neches, and Hamphire Fannett. Thursday should be a very interesting matchup between CO and LC.
20. Thanks. That sets up a very interesting match up for next Thursday bewteen two undefeated teams for the district title. CO is playing in a tournament this weekend so it's not a lock that they will be undefeated although they beat St. Annes last night by 16. They will however by perfect in district so this will be a showdown.
21. hey STJFL, did LC remain undefeated last night?
22. Yes they are in the same district.
23.
Razor, I think they play Tuesday night, should be a great matchup to undefeateds going head to head good luck to both teams.
I believe they play each other on Thursday the 24th at LC.  You're correct, it should be a good one and will almost certainly be for the district title.
24. As is CO Wilson's 7th grade A team. That should be a great match up. CO won the Port Neches tournament this past weekend with wins over HF, Groves, and Central MS. Closest score was the HF game, which CO won by 17.
25. I could definitely live with JC at Dallas. Julius is as good as gone since he will be an unrestricted FA. Give the starting job to Barber and use Jamal as a change of pace back with his speed. Best of luck to JC! It is great to see a guy from this area have so much success. I think he could have had even more at Texas if used properly, but he is an amazing talent nonetheless.
