  1. Jennings is not a terrible pick up but I think the Stros gave up too much for him. He is a relative bargain for 2007 at $5.5MM when you look at the contracts pitchers have been signing this off season. The biggest loss to me is Hirsch. Big guy with a live arm who I thought had some potential. I like Taveras but the bottom line is he has not proven to be a very good offensive player. A lead off guy with a .333 OBP just doesn't cut it plus he has absolutely no extra base power. Defensively, this will leave a big void in center. Diva, just so you will know, Roy O has been the Astros number one for several years already and he would be for just about any team in the league. Roy is one of the best in MLB, so while the rest of the rotation may be questionable, the number one is clearly in great hands. The Astros still need another bat IMO. They will be weaker defensively next year and will need to score more, plus the bullpen still has me nervous. I like Jennings, but would feel better if he were going to be our number 3, not number 2. This would put Williams at number 4 and we would be solid.
  2. Kensington, how can you say that Mosley's yards came late. Were you at the game? He had 71 yards alone on the opening drive! I also disagree with you about DJ. He played one of his better games of the year last Saturday and he continued to improve as the season wore on. He will be a true force next year
  3. I have some mixed feelings about this. To me, 4 is entirely too many and 3 may be too much. I feel very comfortable with 2 making it. When you go to three, you get a mixed bag...there are some very strong third place teams out there and some very weak ones. Heck, I remember one year not too long ago when WOS finshed 4th and was left out. Nederland went several rounds into the playoffs and it took a while before we played anyone who was as good as WOS was that year and they unfortunately stayed home. If I had to choose, I would say 2 teams make it.
  4. I've got a feeling that the Dogs might have a little playoff magic in 'em. If GP cannot stop the run, Mosley will add to his already impressive rushing total and GP may not see the ball much. Nederland 45, GP 28.
  5. West Orange won the junior division title with a 2-0 win over Woodville. WO got a safety late in the game for the only points. Nederland Black defeated WO to take the senior division crown. Final in that one was 12-0.
  6. The finals will be played this weekend at Hardin Jefferson stadium. I know that the Senior Division will be Nederland Black vs. West Orange. Nederland Black and Lumberton White played a physical, hard fought game with Nederland coming out on top 8-6, handing Lumberton their only loss of the season. WO came back in the second half to beat a scrappy Bridge City Red team. This should be a great game. I also know that Woodville will be one of the finalists in the Junior Division, but not sure about their opponent. Port NEches has one of the flag finalists as well.
  7. The regular season is over and the playoffs begin this weekend with first round games to be held in Nederland.
  8. Mosley did not take a beating against Central. I think he was in for maybe 2 plays before he was pulled. Bottom line was, he simply was not ready physically to play. Another week of rest should do him well and I expect him to be a go for MCM.
  9. GoDogs, I respectfully disagree that coaching was the main problem in the Vidor/Central games. If you tackle (or don't in this case) the way our D has been, no scheme will solve your problems. Our guys need to dump the arm tackling and hit somebody in the stinking mouth. Then and only then will we see an improvement.
  10. Offensively, Nederland is very solid, especially with Mosley returning, however, defense is a whole seperate issue. The defense played tough against LaMarque but has not been the same since. Nederland did hang with Waller but this game was a shoot out, not much D there. The last team with the ball won that game. As is well documented, the D was not very good against Vidor or Central. Right now, the Dogs have to re-figure out how to tackle, plain and simple. I cannot say how many we missed this season. The road back to the post season is a long one, but things look a lot brighter with a W this week over PNG. Can they do it? I have faith in 'em. Best of luck Dogs.
  11. Thanks, pirate. I will admit that things don't look so great for the Dogs right now, but I believe that most of this is based on what happened last week and last week alone. Not to be lost in all of this is the fact that Vidor played outstanding ball last week, so hats off to them. Nederland faces a great challenge this week as well, but I give them the same chance to beat Central that I did the week before Vidor. I see this as a pick 'em game. Either team winning would not surprise me. Let's not bury a season before it has barely begun.
  12. I am not so sure Coop. I here the injury is pretty severe.
  13. Hell, I think PNG may be the odds on favorite to win the district. None of this flying under the radar mess as far as I am concerned.
  14. Nederland 35 Vidor 14
  15. That is absolutely the most ridiculous rule I have ever heard of...bar none!!! We are we teaching kids these days?? This societal notion of everbody's a winner and keeping people's self esteem in check is not reflective of the real world.
  16. Hell, SLC has better facilities and bigger crowds than Lamar would be able to draw. As much as people would love to see Dodge return, myself included, it is nothing more than a pipe dream. He has it too good where he is and the only thing he will leave for is something bigger and better.
  17. I was told they stopped selling it a halftime of the Nederland game. I was under the impression that alcohol could not be served at any UIL event, regardless of the venue. Not a bad rule by any means.
  18. It is definitley not Moshier. He isn't left handed. Mosely on the other hand is, so it may be him.
  19. Scores and standings have been updated on stjfl.net.
  20. I'll say 2-4 for 22-4A. There are some real tough draws in that opening week schedule. I'm just glad that it is all about to start.
  21. One thing is for certain...we will have a btter idea about Dayton after they play WOS. I don't think Dayton is capable of winning district outright, but they certainly appear to be talented enough to have a say in the outcome of the district race. If I had to make a prediction on playoffs for Dayton, I would say no, but them making it woudl not shock me.
  22. I agree that Guitterez from Nederland is highly underrated. This kid can play.
  23. I hope you guys aren't going to be at Reliant that early. The preview show is Thursday night. Good luck to both Nederland and PNG.
  24. Heck, Coop, with the way this bullpen is and the way this team hits we need Cy Young, Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson.
