  1. Based on pngisd actions with Faircloth after his 102-51 record, district titles & 12 out of 13 years of playoff runs, I would assume only head coach applicants with a similar record &/or state championship as a head coach at previous school would be in the running for the gig? After all as some believe you should fire a head coach if he cant win a state title in 7 years at a school, then why would you hire a coach who has not won a state title at another school in 7 years?
  2. Here is some head coaches in the long list of top Texas high school coaches who took longer then 7 to 10 years to win a state championship. Mike Johnston-Katy Curtis Barbay-Newton Bob McQueen-Temple Tom Kimbrough-Plano T.J. Mills-Sealy Bob Ledbetter-Southlake Carroll Todd Dodge Luther Booker-Yates Art Briles John Outlaw-Lufkin G.A. Moore-Pilot Point/Celina Ron Mills-Bay City Joe Clements-Huntsville David Aymond-North Shore Gary Gaines- Odessa Permian Joey Florence-Denton Ryan Bryan Erwin-La Marque John King-Longview Bill Smith-Aldine Steve Shaver-Beaumont French Ross Rogers-A&M Consolidated Terry Gambill-Allen Lee Fedora-Navasota Jake Fieszel-Gunter Rusty Dowling-Texas City Hal Wasson John Parchman-Midland Lee Ed Putejovsky-Cy Fair Ron Poe-Mckinney Gene McCollum-PNG Joe Martin-Garland
  3. Tough & painful losses for sure, to some very strong teams. Smith had some good teams & made some nice playoff runs.
  4. Best of luck to Mr. Hickman & his staff. Keep the Mustang winning tradition going. The lone finalist. His resume & interview must have been very impressive compared to other applicants
  5. Smith has done an overall good job & had some nice playoff runs, getting knocked out of playoffs by eventual state champion powerhouse Carthage 3 times 2016: 2nd in district- Bi-District Finalist- Lost 34-30 to Carthage in 1st rd. 2017: 1st in district- Regional Finalist- Lost to Carthage 64-36 in 3rd rd. 2018: 2nd in district- State Semifinalist- Lost to Cuero 29-24 in 5th rd. 2019: 2nd in district- State Semifinalist- Lost to Wimberly 56-43 in 5th rd. 2020: 2nd in district- Area Finalist- Lost to Carthage 49-0 in 2nd rd. 2021: 4th in district- Bi-District Finalist- Lost to Sealy 21-19 in 1st rd.
  6. Head Coach Randy Smith 6 years @ Silsbee 44-29 record. 2016- 6-5 2017- 7-5 2018- 10-5 2019- 9-5 2020- 7-4 2021- 5-5
  7. Is this take your retirement payments as coach\teacher in Texas, Get a job in Louisiana coaching\working still earning money move? I like it.
  8. If any QB candidate steps up, is as athletic & plays as well as R. Cunningham did his senior year moving from WR to QB then Nederland will be pushing PNG's 17 returners for the district title.
  9. I'm assuming you have seen the QB candidates run Nederland offense &\or in Fall\Spring practice? What are their strengths? Passing, running, RPO guys, Pocket passing?
  10. The new district will not be as strong overall not having Crosby, BH & TC imo. Montgomery is a solid team the others you mentioned are at best average. With PNG returning 17 starters & Faircloth they should be the favorite to win district. If Nederland coaches find a QB, RB & a few newcomers to step up on o-line & defense as playmakers they should be able to grab one of the playoff spots in this district. Should be very interesting how teams adjust with all the new teams & the travel.
  11. Caywood is good, but will need help. Losing very good players on Defense like Beck, Kotz, Lopez, Fuselier, Stoker, Bougeois & Replacing with inexperienced players is always a tough task for any team. I believe 3 starters return at WR, that should be a strength. Biggest question mark imo is at QB & OL. Neither QB mentioned has varsity starting exp. at the 5A level. Either QB will have to step up & learn under fire in a tough new district. Nederland coaching staff is known for finding the right players to put in starting positions & putting a competitive team on the field.
  12. 5 on offense. 5/6 on defense coming back next season Need to find a starting QB, RB, a couple OL & play making WR since Fuselier graduated. Defense has to replace Beck at LB, DB'S & DL guys lost to graduation.
  13. With the win state in 7 years or you are Fired philosophy, Neumann should have been fired at Nederland in 1999, Faircloth should have been fired at PNG in 2015 & Mathews should have been fired at Vidor in 2005. All 3 are considered by the majority of setx high school football community as very good coaches & made the football programs better. Good thing Hooks won state at WOS before the 7 year limit was up.😁
  14. PNG head coach learned how to make a solid cup cake pre district schedule from his mentor while at Ned to prepare his team well for district opponents & playoffs…..
  15. I believe coaches have until Dec. 31, 2021 to apply for the position. Need Mr. Elam to put in that request for the infamous job applicant list.....
  16. Very good football player & all around athlete back in those days. All around good person & from what I have seen during games a solid coach at WOS. Not sure he would want the responsibilities of AD/head coach though.
  17. I believe Mike Pierce started coaching at WOS in the late 90's as secondary coach?? On a side note: The Mike Pierce coaching at WOS was an All American Free Safety at Mcneese State. Mike Pierce (1987-90) – 1990 All-American (Sports Network, Dan Hansen's Football)… 1989 and 1990 first team All-Southland Conference… 1990 first team All-Louisiana… 1990 SLC Defensive Player of the Year… 1990 McNeese MVP, team Captain, and McNeese Outstanding Defensive Player… led the Cowboys in pass interceptions with four in 1988 and five pick in 1989… his 12 interceptions in his career is currently ranked tied for seventh all-time… 243 career tackles currently ranks him 20th all-time… member of the 1990s SLC All-Decade Team.
  18. At some schools an outside coach & change is needed to get back to success & winning culture. This is not needed at WOS, I'm not positive an outside coach coming in trying to change things away from what McCarty, Hooks, Thompson have built would be the best for WOS at this time. I also agree that Coach Thompson's input should be a big part in the hire & he knows what's best for WOS. If you can get a guy like Daniel Boedeker at Shiner who is 42-1 with back to back 2A state titles, then I agree to hire that type outside guy, but I do not think that type of coach with that record is applying.
  19. I am sure there are applicants with better overall records then Foreman or the other WOS coaches applying, but would an outside coach, who knows nothing about WOS tradition, culture & the community coming in changing things be what's best for continued success???
  20. Mr. Dodge is riding off into retirement to some tropical island with another state title after this weekend.
  21. Faircloth running his offensive schemes at WOS matched with typical strong WOS defense would be very nice combo.
