Take it easy tonight..........New Year's Eve
OldTimer replied to Roper84's topic in College Sports Forum
Its going to be a great time for football for the next few weeks so lets all be around to enjoy each and every game - be safe and have fun (you can do both - my children sometimes do not believe this). Will look forward to continuing the lively discussions in 2015. -
Tend to agree with you - but using the argument that they do not perform due to being slighted (and they were) if they perform poorly will only hurt their argument that they should have been there (playoff). If anything being slighted should make them more willing to perform than "mail it". They lose - they just certified the playoff selection committee's decision - they win (and if they win big - a lot) they have the right to yell at the top of their voices that they deserved to be there.

I think this may be one of the best post season games of the year - wish I was off work to watch it

He's padding his resume for the A&M defense :P

No you are not hating on Texas - but you are drinking the burnt orange kool-aide. When Sumlin's team gives up 59 against Alabama it has to be the coaching - when Texas gains only 59 yards in a bowl game then it just has to be the talent the coaching cannot - noooooooooooo cannot be even part of the issue :P Texas fans are giving the credit to the defense to Strong when in fact every member of that defense was recruited and 9 of them were returning starters under Mack Brown - how is that a bare cupboard? Strong I think did have some really bad luck when Ash went down and I do not think that Texas had a legitimate replacement trained at that time. But with the exception of the O-Line Texas had all of its skill players back from the 8-5 2013 Horns. Take that Strong kicked off some of his starting O-line (could be a topic of discussion all in itself) he might have done this to himself. Texas problems are at QB and the O-line and if you cannot get them to perform better than they did against Arkansas - is the coaching the problem or the talent? Look I am not Strong bashing - I have stated that I think that he will be good for Texas many times in the past - but you cannot overlook the fact that he and his coaching staff could not figure out how to get more than 59 yards against Arkansas - you know what you have 13 games into a season and you make a game plan to best use your resources. If Texas cannot figure out the O-Line problems getting a new QB may not make any difference.

While I think this could be an "impact" hire - I will be seriously surprised if he leaves LSU. But would love to see it.

I have said it before and will say it again - but the "cupboard bare" argument seem to hold little or no water. Texas recruiting classes: (scout.com) 2010 - 3 2011 - 3 2012 - 1 2013 - 23 2014 - 15 On Texas current 2 deep roster they have (as recruits) 7 - 5 Stars and 17 - 4 Stars (I did not look at 3 Stars or below) - Most teams would love to have those numbers of 4 and 5 Star recruits on their team - and all those were recruited by Mack Brown and company. Funny thing is that 4 of the 5 5 - Star players are on the offensive side of the ball. I know that Strong kicked some pretty decent players off the team and likely for good cause - but they still had plenty of talent on the team - just maybe not developed or utilized properly - and mainly at the QB position but the two deep there is even a 5 - Star and a 4 - Star. And I also understand that recruiting rankings to not always pay off but i just feel the cupboard was far from "bare".
-
Defense not only keep the horns in many games this year - it won one or two for them - the question on the defensive side of the ball is how do you replace the 6 SR starters? And of those 3 of those 6 were all big 12 performers.
-
Arkansas has only allowed 29 total yards on 33 plays is that some kind of record? Its just gotta be!

The Texas A&M defense might just make him the pre-season front runner for the Heisman next year :P -
A little slow on the uptake I will have to admit - NOW I get it.
-
He might truly be scared of Stidham
-
This is a major plus for Strong and Texas as Texas has been on the list of worst graduation rates. Congrats to Strong for this accomplishment.
-
Maybe just maybe you need to read the article again - this article was not about income it is about value. But from an article in USA today - Texas still leads in total income with about 165 Million but Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma and Oregon actually have better profit than Texas. While Texas makes the most they also spend the most.
-
Thought I heard that this year :P
-
Anytime - or am I wrong somehow?
-
Yeah Arkansas don't give a damn about A&M and sometime soon they may even beat them again - going on 3 year straight if I am not mistaken ;)
-
Could be the start of the crumbling of the recruiting class - will see how many dominoes follow. All on Sumlin's back - should have had a DC in place.
-
TxHoops - collieville? - were not the one who spoke out and was upset that Aggie's used such terms as TU, shorthorns, T-sip, tea sip, etc ....... but now it is ok to ridicule A&M in the same way. Ok the t-sips finally got a good recruit - 2 to be fair - congrats - when they get back to where they win more than 6 games then the TU supporters can talk - until then please keep the shorthorn chest pounding to a minimum. :P And sorry but all my Baylor Bear fans hate the t-sips much worse than A&M - it is not even close - Texas Tech on the other hand hates both shorthorns and Texas A&M but I will agree Texas A&M worse.
-
No you see I see it clear as day. You are Anti-Aggie so everything they do is wither bad or just luck - I understand your bias. You are right to a degree that A&M W-L have declined - but you also fail to understand that Texas IF Mack Brown had stayed would have been better that 6-7 - that is my opinion.
-
Funny how Texas finally wins one and the old tiresome Longhorn fans come out of the woodwork. "The Aggy joke is an institution, even in coaching decisions" And you wonder why most everybody but Texas fans normally hate Texas - could it be that at lot - in fact most - are obnoxious. "Another 6-7 win season in collieville" - I thought the only team that is going 6-7 this year is the Longhorns ;) "Well those wins are declining at that other school. " - they have been declining at Texas as well. (8-5 vs 6-7)
-
I also wonder if this will have a net negative affect on the current and future A&M recruits? Hope not but who knows?
-
Big day for Texas and Strong - this will do nothing but booster his remaining time this year recruiting.
-
That's the 2nd good recruiter that A&M has lost - does not bode well.
