Sorry guys I will go on a limb again and say he will be a successful NFL QB. GCMPats you have searched high and low to find people critical of JFF but there are more people that think he will succeed than think he will fail. And sorry but Ron Joworski has rarely been right in his early predictions. Here is a quote about Texans QB Schaub prior to the 2013 season - "he is the most underrated QB in the NFL" - hows that for accuracy. Sorry man but JFF completed 70% of his passes and competed in the best league in college football. That is not luck or fate that is talent no matter now you look at it. The fact that many of his completions were last minute just supports the fact that he can make the last minute decision and get the ball to the point needed accurately and quickly. Yes he had some remarkable WR catches but those were the exception and not the rule. And sorry but he did not scramble or run in 2013 like he did his Heisman season and still completed 70%. Haters gonna hate. But that's "Just my thoughts".

NFL Expert: Johnny Manziel almost undraftable!
OldTimer replied to shovel's topic in College Sports Forum
This is obviously his opinion and is not shared by many in the NFL or Football world as most drafts and NFL teams are evaluating him in the top 10 picks with many as the No. 1 pick. I am one the few that think he will surprise a lot of people and be a very functional NFL QB. Will he be the next Brady or Manning likely not but I believe that he will be in the NFL for a long time and will win many games for some NFL team. -
I think that what Mack Brown did from 1998 - 2009 will be hard to duplicate (119 Wins and 27 Losses) with 2 NC games and 1 championships. Mack Brown was a good Coach but I have not heard many people put him in the class of being one of the "Best Ever" - those are tough shoes to fill - but as you state we will see. Quit frankly in 10 years I will have forgotten this thread - please remind me if I am still around. As I think I stated I think that the new world of college football that we now live in dynasties will be hard to build and harder to maintain for all teams. Texas fans have just not accepted that they cannot get every quality athlete in the area anymore - we will have to wait and see if Coach Strong can get that edge back - I am doubtful that he can get the year in and year out top 5 classes that Mack Brown was able to get - not because of him personally just think it will be tough for any team to pull off.
-
The only thing that could stop this prediction is if the Big 12 beats each other up and the winning teams has 2 or more losses then I think they will not get an invite if several other teams have 0 or 1 loss.
-
As I have stated I think that Coach Strong was a good hire for Texas. But to state that he will be "recognized as on of the greatest coaches in the history of college football" is a HUGE statement and little to premature. Will he turn Texas around - quite likely; Will he be one of the greatest Coaches of all time - Lets come back in say 10 years and discuss that issue. We are in a different environment then we were 30 - 50 years ago and all teams have a very hard time staying on top for extended periods of time - Alabama being the one of the notable exceptions lately. Texas 20 - 30 - 50 years ago had a strangle hold on the best players in Texas and in a lot of cases around the US but that has narrowed lately with A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma all with their hands in the pot. Also, facilities of the schools competing with Texas have also gotten better and are now if not equal to Texas's facilities they are real close so the environment has gotten better elsewhere as well. So what this all means is that the playing field has leveled a lot for other teams since the Texas "hay days" and Texas might just find if harder to stay on top year in and year out like the "good ole days".
-
I think that if it comes down to a joint decision as to what school they will attend as brothers this could possibly hurt A&M chances due to the state of the current basketball team. This could put Texas or Baylor more in the lead if they want to have little brother go to a better basketball school - hope they both choose A&M.
-
I really do not know just the article from SB Nation stated that A&M finished 2nd for him. Here is the quote: "Texas A&M finished second in the race for Mitchell's commitment last year." But that is a far as my knowledge goes - Just hope he considers A&M as we can always use a good LB.
-
More than likely as I was surprised that I was the first to comment on this ;)
-
How did this even make the conversation-you really need to work on your Texas A&M infatuation - - first nobody that I am aware of defended that action then or now and second he was not a player on he field or court for that matter. More on this subject: If the man made any racial comments then he should be held at least partially accountable - and he has stated that he will not attend any more games this year -that in itself makes me wonder what he actually did say. But the fact is a player in any sport at any level can have to deal with fans of questionable character and if they go after the fan there needs to be punishment - and I agree in this case the punishment needs to be more than 3 games.

Ohio State LB Mike Mitchell it appears is going to transfer to get closer to his ill father. He was red shirted his freshman year at Ohio State. In the recruiting wars it appears Texas A&M was 2nd behind Ohio State. He was a 5 star rated LB from I believe Plano. What at the chances the Aggies recruiting year gets a little bit better in the near future? If not will he consider Texas and help their defense?
-
BullDog grow up a little please - that post was not even about A&M and you still wish it was - all that was noted was he was co-defensive player of the year for the SEC. Everything in this world is not about TEXAS! and also not about Texas A&M - and this post was about neither.
-
All A&M fans love A&M just as much as you love your horns. But A&M decided to up the stakes by going to the premier conference in the land and leave the Texas run Big 12(10) - everyone knows that the Big 12(10) became the Texas University league - why do you think that Nebraska and Colorado chose to leave before A&M and Missouri left. Texas basically runs the Big 12(10) as even Oklahoma decided to "think" about leaving because of Texas. Texas fans do not give A&M any credit even when it is due like now - A&M is a better football program right now than Texas - even with Texas having the $$$$$$ - and has been for the last 3 - 4 years. Texas A&M left for a better conference and to get out of the shadow of Texas and it has worked so far and Texas fans cannot stand that A&M did not fail in the transfer to the SEC - live with it.
-
From what I have heard neither are too easy to locate :P
-
Noted and understood.
-
Both Universities have always been class acts and I hope this is indicative of how they treat all their players - regardless of the disagreement between backers we must always remember that basically Aggie's and Longhorns represent some of the best and classiest Universities in the country.
-
You are right and I agree 100% - I am living with the move to the SEC and enjoying it but it seems that some Texas fans can't seem to let A&M enjoy it new found status. Not Projected but actual status as noted in the most recent recruiting class!
-
Keep Telling myself that - lets look at facts: AP final 2014 standings. SEC West Big 12 (10) 1. Auburn - No. 2 1. Baylor - No. 13 2. Alabama - No. 7 2. Oklahoma - No. 6 3. LSU - No. 14 3. Oklahoma State - 17 4. A&M - No. 18 4. Texas - Not Ranked Sorry Pats - it ain't even really that close
-
4th Place Division finish in the SEC if better than 4th Place in the Big 12(10) any day!

are sub-.500 teams watering down the playoffs?
OldTimer replied to Octfeb's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Look - No Offense - We can all come up with a team or two, perhaps even 3 that had a bad season record and came in 4th in their district and then exceeded expectations by winning a playoff game - perhaps even 2. But the subject of this tread is are we watering down the playoffs and that answer is a loud yes we are. Hell my son was on the Liberty team I think in 2006 that was 4-6 and was District Champs and beat a 9-0 Barbers Hill team to do it. So I know that record does not always reflect the talent level of any given team. However, But by far most 4th place district teams have very little chance of making it past the first round. And I have experience with that as well as my son was also on the Liberty team that came in 3rd place in District 22AAA and then got pounded by WOS 60-0 in the first round of the playoffs. And we beat the 4th place team that year I think like 44-14 so think what they would have entitled to if they had played WOS that year. -

OldTimer replied to Octfeb's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
My answer is a BIG YES! I could see an argument over say the 2 and 3 team in a district being overlooked due to a tough district - but the 4 team sorry arguments for that place are very few and far between. -
Chad Taylor introduced in Liberty
OldTimer replied to WordMan2's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No offense – but in today’s high school football making the playoffs is not much of a target – as almost everybody makes them nowadays. How Coach Taylor does will be very interesting as there is a group in Liberty that has place the title of “savior†on him and that title will bring as many problems as it will solutions. If he struggles early he might find that he will receive the same treatment that was provided to the last 2 Head Coach’s that Liberty has had. Nobody wants to admit it but the number of quality athletes that Liberty has been able to field lately is not as many as the other top teams in the area. They will always have good athletes but the have fallen off in the number and quality of the athletes they are able to field. Liberty has always fielded top notch kids that play hard and want to win but lately have no “dominate†player or players they can look to if they need to in crunch time. As always I wish the Panthers the best and a great season :) -
Liberty's Deel Resigns under pressure
OldTimer replied to Texasminuteman's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I admit I find it hard to believe but I was told today from a reliable source that they had over 100 Applicants - that just seems a lot to me. Hope they find a good one out of that stack. -
Class 3A playoff field to expand in 2013
OldTimer replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is just the extension of rewarding mediocrity. This means you will begin to see many more teams with losing records make the “playoffsâ€. When this happens the debate of whether a team is decent or not by stating how many years in a row they made the playoffs will no longer be applicable. I agree with Aggiesarewe that the district champion should be the only school to move on – if not that then the first 2 teams in each district makes some sense but 4 with 4 teams you are just diluting the playoffs to an additional game for a lot of sub-par teams. -
Liberty at Huffman Game Thread/Huffman wins 62-13!!
OldTimer replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I keep hearing Liberty say "Well we were 7-3 last year" sorry not a good argument as 6 of the 7 teams that Liberty beat last year won like a combined 7 wins between them (and most of those wins were between the same 6 teams). Liberty has not beaten a quality team in years - with the notable exception of the private Beaumont team last year. And most games against good teams end in blowouts. This year they stepped up the pre district schedule to not include patsies and look what has happened. Liberty has issues - how to repair those issues is now the question.
