It appears that Playoff Picture for 22 AAA is set
OldTimer replied to OldTimer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Cleveland currently I believe has the best record - so I think Cleveland will be 1st. -
It appears that the top 3 teams in 22AAA will be Cleveland, Coldsprings and Kingwood Park With Liberty winning at Splendora it appears to have elimated any hope of Liberty or Splendora catching Kingwood Park. Current Records in district: Kingwood Park: 6 - 4 Splendora: 4 - 7 Liberty: 3 - 7 This means that neither team can catch the Kingwood Park team :-[

Horndawg - in this instance you cannot bring up returning players as this is their 1st year playing baseball. Also, the reason to bring up other sports is to address One main issue - quality of the overall program. And I have to say that since they have been competitive in all sports that you cannot leave them out of consideration for a playoff spot in baseball. My top 4 will still be Tarkington, Liberty, Splendora and Kingwood Park (the unknown team) 8)

Liberty Job Open/Down To 2!!!!!/LIBERTY HIRES!!

Actually there were 58 applications - but, only about 15 that will be given serious consideration. -
I think the "known" favorites have to be Splendora, Tarkington and Liberty but the reason that everyone is giving Kingwood Park the benefit of the doubt is that they have been competitive in all sports that they have played in at the 3A level - also just the fact that Kingwood area has been known for good baseball teams for a long time now. Splendora - I think they lost the fireball pitcher from last year and if they did they will have to replace him as they seemed to struggle with their other pitchers; Tarkington - was solid last year but failed to score runs agianst talented pitchers but I think they are returning a lot of players; Liberty - should be solid defensively but their pitching will be somewhat new as the pitchers that pitched 90% of the innings last year are gone and new pitchers will have to step up; Kingwood Park - thile they are the "Unknown" of the district just my guess is that they will be in the top 3 somewhere just due to their numbers - even if they are young. That is my take - and its worth what was paid for it - absolutely zero 8)

Brookeshire Royal bumps up to Katy I.S.D. directly to the west of Katy - The city of Katy is at the far west of the Katy I.S.D. and Brookeshire Royal is about 5 miles west of the city of Katy. When I went to Katy - in 1974 to 1978 - we actually used to play Brookeshire Royal in pre-season games.

Liberty Job Open/Down To 2!!!!!/LIBERTY HIRES!!
OldTimer replied to setxguru's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think its kinda funny that the current AD is being fired (oops sorry replaced) due to the fact – or so I heard – that he puts too much emphasis on football and it Setxfan1 is right the requirements for the job are what offense the FOOTBALL team runs. No questions about his thoughts on basketball or baseball or for that matter volleyball and softball. Liberty needs to have an AD that wants all its programs to be successful not just football – and I understand that football rules but the good AD’s want the entire program to shine. I agree with “football†that the spread is a good offense and can work but it is not the only offense on the table – and while Hardin was able to run it right off the bat (baseball term) most teams take a few years to understand the offense. Also I think the higher the level of competition the higher the odds are that the spread can be stopped – in other words a 3A team might find it a little harder to have instant results than a 2A team did. I and a Liberty supporter and am glad that it appears some strong candidates have surfaced for this job – but instead on concentrating on wins I hope that the new AD looks at the entire school from Jr. High to High School and demands that the program and athletes be respectable on and OFF THE FIELD. -
How Many Starters Does Your Team Have Back This Year??
OldTimer replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
So Horns4 - you are saying that HJ had - Zero - Sr. starters last year - I actually thought they had 2 - 3 at least. : -
All of these thing are cyclical and will change – it was not that long ago that the teams from 22AAA beat the teams from 21AAA on a regular basis – never “owned†them but won as many as they lost. There is no doubt that currently that 21AAA has a quality group of teams and will be hard to beat – but do not make the mistake of thinking that has always been the case or will always be the case. I do not believe that 22AAA is scared of 21AAA ???just that 21AAA has a better quality of athletes at the moment and should be respected – but they are not unbeatable that’s why we play the games.

Old Ball Coach - I think they have made the playoffs 10 of the last 12 years. They did not make it in 2005 or this year 2007. Hddemon - I heard the closing date was 02/01/2008. -

A-Town – sorry no they have not built a new gym since the High School was built – they did build a new Jr. High School gym but nothing at the High School level. Sahen – you must not have been to a game in the last 3 – 4 years because the stands have not been full for most home game during those years. Some games like Homecoming have better crowds than others but overall the stands have plenty of room. I have had season tickets now for 7 years and have never – that I can remember – not had plenty of room around me. And my tickets are 7 rows up on the 50-yard line. UI wish I could say that all the home games had good crowds but in my opinion that is not the case. Donald Douglas seems to be a decent choice if he wants to come back due to the fact he is a coach at a larger school and might could bring some of that knowledge with him. However, just because they were good High School players does not make them good coaches – so I wonder about the wisdom of loading the coaching staff with a lot of good ex-players = might work but would be an experiment. If they could bring the college experiences with them may well be a great idea. Regarding the Stadium - as an ex-president of the Athletic Booster club we painted the stadium so that is was not solid grey as it was prior to 2003. The school paid nothing of the cost and the booster club paid for and did all the work. Really look at the fences that they have (are falling apart), the fact that the scoreboard has not worked (downs, yardage and ball on) have not worked for 2 years and the ticket booths are rotted a lot. Then visit the locker rooms and you will see what I am talking about. The field itself is fine but the other parts that make a stadium are in bad condition. -

I thought the OC for Dayton is Coach Bell - used to coach at Liberty about 3 years ago. But I am not 100% sure he is the OC. If he is he is aware of Liberty and what needs to be done. -

I do not know why it is not posted – but Liberty is definitely open and in the process if interviewing coaches. -
Libertyfan#1 - Don't want to start an argument about a team we both support but lets look at facts - Last year Liberty was not blown out by either Cleveland or Coldsprings - Coldsprings lost by 4 and 9; Cleveland - lost by 9 and 12. Also Liberty never lost to Tarkington by more than 6 last year - this year I think by 12. So I just don't see that this years team is any better than last years - sorry. Look they have some good players this year and last year - the common factor is that until they are taught to work as a team they will struggle. Agian if you compare the win-loss records of Liberty foes from last year to this year I think it will show a major drop in their competition level.
-
I don't think they are playing better. Their predistrict record is actually worse than last years and last year they played HJ (State Champs) 3 times. Who has Liberty beaten this year: Warren 2X - a team that is struggling, Anahuac - 1-1 - seems to be a very up and down team and Buna - who it appears is going to have a rough year. They have played a lot of 1A and 2A teams and still have a losing record. So I have a hard time saying they are better than last year - and I support them. I wish that I could say that they have improved but I just don't see it. Hard working and playing kids - same result.

I have not heard much either. My guess is that Coach Haynes is a wish for Liberty - He did a great job at Hardin and I think he would be hard to get out of that school district. Donald Douglass I have heard of as well - I do not know that much about him except he was a great player in High School and College and is a current Asst. Coach in the Beaumont area. I have also heard the name of Coach Sadler (current Asst. Coach) mentioned several times as a possible replacement. I guess my question still is - All these guys have connections to Liberty from previous years - why has the school not been able to attract anyone else that has not connections to the school? -

Before I start let me state that I support Liberty Athletics all the way and did not want to see Coach Stewart let go. But I do have a question – Why would a “Good†coach be interested in the Liberty job: 1. Good kids – the strength of the program 2. Poor facilities 3. Poor support from the community 4. Parents that continually complain about every loss (every school – I know) 5. A large lack of support from the administration for athletics 6. Low pay for AD position (as posted by the Houston Chronicle) 7. And; from what I have heard – Low pay for assistant coaches. With these facts why would any qualified coach want to come to Liberty for a job. I know it sounds like I am down on Liberty – Look I love the town and the people in it and the school is a good place for our kids. But there has been a long-term lack of support (financially as well as non-financial) for athletics by the community and the School Board. Am I missing something? I love Liberty but see the shortcomings that the next AD will face and really wonder if he will be treated the same as Coach Stewart. -

It appears that Liberty's postion has not been filled as I just heard that they posted for a new AD on 12/20/2007. Have not heard on anybody that may have applied. -

I was wondering what Kingwood Park was going to be like - What have their district scores been like and who in the district have they played? Anyone. -

Tarkington may well be the surprise team for the 2007 - 2008 Season. Never thought they could beat Splendora - and they did it soundly. They appear to have a well coached team that will wait for the best shot and play good sound defense. -
Coldsprings @ Liberty Predictions
OldTimer replied to Splitter's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Chronicle has the score: Coldsprings - 59 Liberty - 44 But I was ther till halftime and the game at that time was a 3 point game. Coldsprings must have come out ready to play in the 2nd. -
Is Anahuac a threat to EC and Kountez?
OldTimer replied to ECC09's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hate to tell ya'll this but EC and Kountze - and Anahuac - need to worry about Hardin first. Hardin is playing better than anyone else in the district at the moment. ;D -
Its still official - no 21AAA team seems to lose to a better team - It always appears to be the Refs (in this case) the coaches play calling (or lack there of) or some other reason that they lose. Guys 21AAA is a good district for all sports - but you are not ALWAYS the best team. Learn that if you lose it MAY JUST BE YOU GOT BEAT!
-
OK - I'll bite - Why are they leaving? If they are graduating early I do believe that the coach would be aware of that - Why else would they leave?
-
Hey Chaingang Defense - If no "outsider" can post comments about WOS then I assume that you WILL NOT post any comments about any other team on this site. Fair is Fair. ;D
