Rollinac - You are right it is not the 80's anymore but the Odessa Permian team was 12-1 this year only losing in the 3rd round of the playoffs to Euless Trinity (38-14) - who they beat in Sept. (30 - 3). So they appear to be one of the best teams in their area agian.

Hey HORNS4 – Hate to disappoint you but if Hardin had beaten East Chambers they would not have made the playoffs. East Chambers – Lost only to Kountze Buna – Lost only to East Chambers Hardin – Lost to Buna and East Chambers Kountze – Lost to Buna and Hardin Had Hardin beaten EC then the records would have been: Hardin: 5 – 1 Buna: 5 – 1 Kountze: 4 – 2 East Chambers: 4 – 2 By the fact that Kountze beat East Chambers they would make the playoffs by winning the head to head game. Had EC not won their last game they would have been home for the playoffs – with a 8 – 2 Record.

Ok this is kinda silly. 1st WOS is a great local 3A team that has proven that it can play with larger schools by beating a very good Dayton team and East Chambers while a good 2A team barely made the playoffs this year and had to win their last game to get in and then lost the 1st round. Dayton this year might be the best able to take on the top 3 but really - Katy, Odessa Permian and South Lake Carroll are all large school traditional powers that go deep in the playoffs every year. Sorry while I would like to say the local team could hang - the 3 (Katy, Odessa and South Lake) would dominate these teams.

I know it is hard early in the season to know which teams deserve to be on the list - and Liberty has been very up an down so far. But they have appeared to be improved this year.

When is Liberty going to get some respect on this list - they beat Warren (# 9) and Anahuac (# 14) and has played Hardin (# 4) 2 very close games. Give the Panthers some support.

What was Hemphill's record? And, I thought that Orlando was starting - if he is not who is starting in front of him? He has always been a solid rebounder and defensive player. Should he have started last year - I don't know but he should have gotten a whole lot more playing time then he did. It does sound like they are playing more as a team this year then in the past and "if" they are feeding the low post it will open up the guards to have big games. Over the last 2 -3 years that is what the Panthers lacked was a willingness to pass the ball down low - and Liberty had 2 players that could hold their own down low when they got the ball. If they play as a team the playoffs are in their future. GO PANTHERS

Hey – ALLABOUTSTATE – Yes, we that support 22AAA are fully aware of the fact that in the last year or two 21AAA has had a superior overall district. That is one of the problems of some of the posts – they are students of their schools and they post and support their school and they should but they only post about the years they have been involved in the High School – but it has not been that long ago that these two districts when playing each other were very competitive. If you take the records of the top performers in 22AAA over the years (my opinion) and compare their records to the current teams from 21AAA you might be surprised at the results. For example from 1995 – 2005 Liberty was 20 – 16 versus the teams from 21AAA and Cleveland was 9 – 6 versus the teams from 21AAA. Coldsprings and Splendora during the same time had a combined 5 – 12 record against 21AAA. So the fact that 22AAA has had a few down years does – and should – not take away from the competitive history between the teams from these two districts.

I heard they are going to be a 5A School and only have Freshman and Sophmores this year. I alos heard they won the district cross country both boys and girls - I think they will be loaded. Gonna be interesting to find out. I also heard that they have about 600 students - but that equals about 300 per class - lotta kids to choose from. :

UKCats - all LHSAlum was trying to say is that Liberty's BB team from last year really was not that bad. They had a 12 - 16 Record with 10 of those games losing by 10 points or less. And 2 of their losses where to the State Champs HJ - one by only 10 points. As I have stated several times when Liberty understands that BB is a team sport they will compete with anybody. Last year the team was close to being a competitive team - it was kinda a tell of 2 seasons - pre-district they were 10 and 8 with the 2 losses to HJ - in district they were 2 and 8 with 5 losses by 6 points or less. And yes when you are constantly on a losing team sometimes even a close game feels like a win. I have followed the Liberty Panthers for several years and last year they had the best team they had in 2 - 3 years - teamwork was the problem - can't win if you don't play as a team - thats my take anyway. The Freshman team from Liberty has always seemed to be good - the Freshman team that the Sr's from last year was on was undefeated until they moved 2 to varsity that year. I also think that the last 2 Freshman teams were also very good. But it has never lead to a good varsity team - record wise - why - your guess is a good as mine.

Every year I hear that 21AAA is so much better than 22AAA in basketball - and I will state from top to bottom they are. But for the last 3 years at least 1 team from 22AAA wins their playoff game agianst 21AAA. I predict the finish will be: Coldsrpings Splendora Cleveland / Tarkington / Liberty Shepherd Battle for 3rd might be very interesting before its over.

Hands down - Hardin. From 2 - 8 to 8 - 1 is an amazing turnaround.

Ok guys - I gotta laugh - This is a football post. Now lets talk football history between Liberty and Tarkington. Liberty I do not believe has ever lost to Tarkington in football and the last time Tarkington made the playoffs was - I believe - in 1961. Wanna talk other sports - go to other posting areas. But guys I like Tarkington but this is an argument that they cannot win - take last year out of the equation - and Liberty has beat Tarkington in all sports on a regular basis- Including Baseball. There is no doubt that Tarkington has closed the gap in all sports between itself and the other teams in the district - but history is not on Tarkington's side in this debate. If you want actual win - losses I can get that - but I really think Tarkington would not like the results. Now Tarkingtons future is bright - they are battling for district titles in several sports and deserve what they have gotten: Baseball and Volleyball are their best sports - but they have gotten better in basketball and Track and Field. But thier football team is still a long way from being a district contender. Sorry - as I stated this is a football post - just kinda lost my head agian.

He can't be serious - Splendora will win fairly easily. But I will say agian - 22AAA better watch out shepherd will be much better next year.

I have been watching this post and was not going to say anything - but good sense left me and I have to respond. Come on man - any team that is 8 and 1 is not bad and Hardin has had a great year and the Coaches and players from Hardin deserve all the praise that every other 8 and 1 team gets - regardless of their supposed "weak schedule" (which can be debated on its on merits - but not now). How deep they will go in the playoffs is yet to be determined - but even if they don't go deep that should not take away from the great season the team and individual players have had. Heck - last year the team I thought was the best I have ever seen - WOS - lost in the 2nd round. Liberty will give up points but Tarkington will have no way to stop White and Liberty's rushing attack - kinda like last year. Prediction: Liberty - 36 Tarkington - 16 COME ON PANTHERS - LETS FINISH STRONG - GO LIBERTY

I wish I thought that Splendora was gonna beat Coldsprings (my least favorite school in 22AAA) but while I hope Splendora wins - I think after watching both teams that Coldsprings has the advantage this year. That being said - COME ON CATS PULL THE UPSET 8)

OK - so some of the backs are not seniors - what I should have said is that 80 - 85% of the carries and catches are to seniors - White, Gee and Winters - I know some of the younger backs are ok - But Wes57 you seem to know them will they be able to replace the yards that White gave Liberty this year?

Liberty has always played hard from start to finish - this year it appears that the ball just bounced the wrong way. In the games I attended the offense held it own agianst all teams but, the defense just could not stop anyone. Its always a shame when good players - White, Gee, Winters and others that are Seniors don't make the playoffs or have a good season. Liberty also has a very young team in the trenches a lot of starting Sophmores - but the RB's and WR are mostly seniors - some young players are gonna have to step up next year at the skill positions. And like always Liberty it seems is always out sized across the offense and defensive lines. Gonna be interesting if they do indeed replace coach Stewart like it seems they are - new coach is gonna have limited skilled players with experience. Liberty has always played with a lot of heart and I don't see that changing new coach or not. GO PANTHERS

Ulrich – I don’t know what team you support and it really does not matter but – where have you seen any predictions that Liberty would “dominate the season†if you have I think you have been seeing things. I have followed Liberty Football and Basketball for several years – 12+ - and have read the post on this website for 3 years now and have yet to see anyone from Liberty predicting a dominating basketball team. I wish I thought they would be a good team – and trust me they have had several players over the past 5 years that could play for a lot of other teams in the area just never more that 2 –3 at a time. And they have never had a good outside shooter to take pressure off the low post even when the guards would pass it down low. They also have never had that "dominating player" that many other teams have to push them over the top. What Liberty will always hope for is a decent team that will compete with every team that they face – last year they lost 4 district games by 5 points or less. In the pre-season they were 9 and 9 with 2 losses to the state champion Hardin Jefferson team – one of those losses was by 10 points – a very close game for Liberty. They ended with an 11 and 17 record for the year – I know its “in theory†but give Liberty 6 more points a game and they would have been 17 and 11 and every Liberty BB fan would have been very happy – but that did not happen. Liberty was on the verge of being a good team last year – not a “dominating†team but a good team. But Liberty needs to understand that Basketball more than most other sports is a team sport and if you don’t play as a team you will lose to most other good teams. I do not know what kind of team Liberty will field this year – but I will support them regardless of their record. GO PANTHERS

DailyNews - I am not mad - just disapointed in how the Panthers played agianst Cleveland - I give all the congrats to Cleveland as they came in with a good gameplan and executed very well. You could see how the longer the Liberty team let Cleveland stay in the game the more excited the Cleveland team became and the harder that they played. But even that being said Cleveland does not have the team to beat Coldsprings as they have too many athletes. I really wish they did - I would like to see Coldsprings take a district loss.
