I'm guessing that Friendswood plays Channelview in Channelview?
Not this year, Channelview is in the process of building a new stadium, which should be complete next season.  Until then, they are playing non-district home games at GPISD Stadium and district home games at Stallworth in Baytown.
No. 21-3A district games will be 7pm, non district still at 7:30pm. There will be some other area games this week that play at 7pm though.
It appears all the schools as individuals want the 7:30 start time based on nondistrict times. Then why as a whole do the games start at 7 for district?
That is a very good question.  Now, if memory serves, some of the district teams did move their non-district home game starts to 7 pm.
 5.
Grad isn't that the Saturday night lights game? I thought that was this saturday?
Nope that is not until October 1st.
 6.
I in no way, shape or form question the integrity of Coach Thompson. However, I can imagine how kids got their informaton. For example, Reed speaking to a classmate "I'm going to transfer to West Brook in the spring and play football next season for the Bruins." Based on that, it sound like he is transferring to play football. However, what be may have left out of the conversation is his father or mother gained employment in Beaumont. I'm we'll aware of LC-M getting several transfers from WO-S but that goes both ways as a stud WR who ended up getting a scholarship transferred from LC-M to WO-S within the past five years. Can't recall is name right now but I'm sure others will remember.
LaDarius White is the guy you are thinking of.  I even recall Coach Williams filling out such a form for a guy by the last name of Thomas.
 7.
Buna vs Hemphill. But I'd make him go to the six-man game on Saturday.
Having him go to Orange to see Chester vs. CCS on Oct. 1 would be a good idea, too!
 8. Well, this week they are probably taking a week off.
 9.
Although you do make a good argument grad...it does sound petty and spiteful when a Channelview Coach shows up as well.  I'm guessing he coached at WOS last year.
I don't know how the coach from Channelview was involved in this matter.  But what would seem more petty? Coach Thompson checking the "yes" box and then when asked to present the basis for doing so by the UIL making the trip up to Austin?  Or for him to check "Yes" and have everybody show for the hearing on the appeal and he not bother.  You see, whether or not Coach Thompson or any of the others show up Monday at that hearing, that hearing was going to be necessary if Robert Redd was to play football this year as it was an appeal of the decision made by the 21-5A executive committee. Some use the 6-0 decision to hail this as the fact that Coach Thompson has no basis on which to check yes.  Not true, as the question asks whether based on his knowledge was the move for athletic purposes.  And while you can disagree with what formed the basis of that knowledge, it was his knowledge at the time.  He felt in good conscience that he had to check "yes" on that form and at least one committee (the 21-5A exec committee) felt his basis was sufficient. Others point to the fact that WO-S' unacceptable academic rating as the obvious reason for the move.  Guys, check your dates!  Redd transferred to West Brook during the spring and had attended classes there and had even participated in West Brook's 7 on 7 games and tournaments before the 2011 academic ratings which classified WO-S as academically unacceptable came out (July 29, 2011, [Hidden Content]).  The rating of WO-S High School at the time of Redd's transfer, academically acceptable ([Hidden Content]).  Indeed if an academically unacceptable ranking had indeed been the basis behind a transfer, the Redds would not have even been there last year as (I am kind of ashamed to report) WO-S High had an 2009 rating of academically unacceptable. On the totality of the circumstances, I can see why Coach Thompson based upon the knowledge he possessed felt compelled to check yes on that box.  The UIL saw things differently and Robert Redd will be on the field Saturday.  But that this process had to play out was not out of jealousy or vindictiveness, but out of honestly answering the questions in front of him. I have noted above and I will again, that WO-S, as well as every other high school in the area, has benefited from a transfer ( I am all too aware of the Jason Woods transfer as I graduated with Jason and quite clearly remember all of the hoopla surrounding his transfer from South Park).  Equally so, they have been benefactors.  Most recently recall the case of Cameron Allen, who transferred from WO-S to LC-M, who was the subject of some idiotic anonymous letter calling his transfer into question.  You remember that the situation never went farther than that letter?  You know why? Because Dan Hooks signed the letter saying that Cameron had not transferred for athletic purposes.  And the same was done with Zack Droulliard, a key member of the Mustang baseball team in 2009-10 and a pretty vital member for LC-M's in 2010-11.  In this case, Coach Thompson in good conscience could not do so.  I, for one, am glad to see that this kind of integrity remains in my home town.
Well I can probably vouche that the Chester vs Huntsville Alpha Omega is probably as small as you can get.  We don't have a band that our coach or players can change into at halftime and we are playing in Huntsville and those guys don't have lights on their football field, so we are playing at 5pm.  Besides that...it's also 6man.  In our neck of the woods anything bigger than 1a is big school  ;D  But I have to say..it's still pretty exciting..especially if you're an offensive side of the ball fanatic!
After seeing the Orange Community Christian/Texas Christian game this weekend, I can certainly vouch for the offensive excitement!
Newton/Silsbee game does not qualify as a small school game. It's the SETXsports.com Big School Game of the Week for crying out loud!!! ;D Like I told you last night Soulja, you got to go to a game where some of the football players take off their pads and pick up their horns to march with the band at halftime. That's small school for ya!! ;)
Well, IMO, small school is 4a and smaller.  ;D ;D Yes, when the coach drives the school bus to the games, works at the ticket booth, and is the band director at halftime.  Ok.  I gocha!
But see, Soulja, it is not your standards that govern, IT IS MY STANDARDS! I know there was some talk about making West Brook/Katy the Big School Game of the Week, but we like for the games of the week to be between schools in the SETX area.
 15. I'll put in a plug for Kountze/West Hardin.  Buna is definitely an adequate choice, but to truly get the feel of a small school game, you gotta go to a 1A stadium and where else better to do that than Saratoga!

[Hidden Content]
Sorry but I think High Island should drop to 6 man ball. I think it is unfair to their playesr, to have to play against a team with that many more players, And I think it is unfair to the other teams to have to play a team that realy has little chance, or could even have to drop a game, like they did here.
Too late for that. They will have to wait till next year to make that change. Problem is, still a lot of this season to play as an 11 man team.
Oh I know it wont happen this yr. But that is something that needs to be looked at real hard. I just think it would be better for all partys. Give the kids a fair chance against a team their size. I know the fokes that set in the stands dont wont to see this, but they are not the ones having to play  4 Qrs with no brakes.
I agree that it needs to be a very real consideration for High Island going into the next realignment.  Based on the numbers turned in in 2010, High Island is the 4th smallest school playing 11 man football.  And the reasons why are clear, this city was ground zero for Hurricane Ike so the likelihood of growth is at best remote. Coach Jones will certainly look at the program and with input from the administration and community in High Island will make the decision that is best for the young men in High Island.  But let's let the Cardinals get through this season.

 20.
As for as Vidors pre-district schedule, I know that Mathews has made an effort to schedule good teams, for example he tried to get Crosby in 2010 but for some stupid reason the powers that be there refused to play Vidor so he scheduled Tx. High which won state in 02 and has been a post season playoff team throughout the last decade, As for Kirbyville I'm sure your familiar with what they have done, I don't think Mathews had a crystal ball to tell him how they would perform this yr. When he scheduled Bridge City they had a 6-4 record with 2 district losses to WOS and Silsbee. So these were not weak teams when he scheduled them even though two are 3A teams. As for the speed of the game......all the teams that we've played has speed, Tx. High probably has some of the best speed will see this yr. Right now as far as district goes every team is sitting at 0-0 I just hope every body can stay as injury free as possible. We'll see how it turns out, should be a very exiting year.
I agree completely.  Most folks need to remember that these games were scheduled back in February 2010.  At the time, Kirbyville was a new 3A team off of 2 appearances in the 2A division I state championship game and appeared to be a contender to do the same in 3A Division II as they defeated the team that ultimately made that appearance, Coldspring.  Bridge City was another contender and Texas High is a perennial 4A playoff team.  I'm not sure that Coach Mathews, or any other coach for that matter, asked at those meetings of their potential opponents, "Well, what does your team look like in 2011?" This is a long way from scheduling the likes of Gulf Shores Academy.
 21. I guess my problem behind the 7 pm start is that I really don't know what goal districts are trying to accomplish with this change and whether 30 minutes really achieves that goal. On the other hand, I can see the tangible disadvantages of moving the games up and can see the difference that 30 minutes does make when it impairs student participation and to some extent parental attendance.
 22.
Quote from another thread--name withheld because I believe the poster was sincere. "Valid point, but do we know for SURE that it is because of WOS? and do we know for SURE it was because the coach didnt sign off? That coach is nowhere near that kind of person. His belief of what I have always seen is if you dont want to be a Mustang, good luck to you somewhere else. No grudges from him." I am disappointed that this coach felt the urge to fight this.  We all know that WOS and other schools have had students transfer for various reasons including sports. Parents do these sorts of things right or wrong.  In this case, the transfer was well in advance and to a school that is not in the same classification nor district.  I recall a high profile WB baseball player moving to WOS because of its once well known reputation.  Again, I thought the delay of this transfer was a lack of class on his part and I hope he handles these things better next time--because there will be a next time.
And who said it was Coach Thompson that was fighting this?  He signed the form as it asked based upon his knowledge and he, along with Hutchison Hill and for that I am sure were asked by the UIL to go to Austin to explain his knowledge.  I am quite sure that with a big game coming up with Jasper, Coach Thompson also had much better things to do than to be in the UIL offices in Austin. I am sorry that in your book this shows a lack of class.  But in the past month Coach Thompson has thrown a key player off his team when he found that his true age was being concealed and he was ineligible and threw two other players off of the team when he found that their eligibility as to residency was in question.  So his conduct with regard to Redd, as you call "classless," is just what I see as continuous course of conduct of a coach who is going to ensure that UIL rules are adhered to.  I know that it has been largely the course that such forms are rubber stamped by the former schools and that in the past that WO-S has been both benefactor and beneficiary of such a custom.  But to call classless a coach that takes the question seriously and answers the question truthfully, is well, pretty classless in itself.
